I remember hearing Hitch-hiker's Guide for the first time when it was on the radio. They were playing Wish You Were Here in the background and Ford Prefect said (about Marvin the Paranoid Android) "hey, did you know that robot can hum like Pink Floyd?" I was totally hooked from that moment!
sorry to be a douche, but that line was not written or spoken by Roger Waters on the album, it was the doorman at Abbey Road Studios that Pink Floyd interviewed for sound bites.
If you track down the "unauthorized" (cough cough) CD set of rare and unreleased Pink Floyd recordings that's been floating around fansites for a bit, you can hear much of the actual interviews w/Roger the Hat and others, from which the spoken bits on DsoTM were taken. It's neat.
The answer to every question is 42! Don't forget your towel, space is big, really big, and most of all, DON'T PANIC! I'm pissed that both the BBC teleplay or the Mos Def movie version of HGTTG didn't use one iota of Floyd in the soundtrack, it only made perfect sense.
Syd only used the Danelectro once or twice. He mostly used a Fender Esquire. But yeah, I can see how that might work out. Truth be told, I can't tell exactly what guitar he's using there.
Yes, Adams is definitely playing a Danelectro in that picture, a U2 model in fact. I've also seen a photo of Gilmour playing a Danelectro in the studio. They're nice lightweight guitars with a very comfortable neck.
He says "Thank you very much, indeed"...then something about douglas adams birthday, then we want to thank roger for writing those words and I have the priveledge of singing them each night, thank you very much, goodnight"
yes Douglas Adams was one of David´s best friends, and he also has the credit on the Division bell album, because it was him who actually chose the name for the album.
Wow! I never knew that Douglas Adams named that album. I now have something to add to my overly large bank of facts about Douglas Adams AND Pink Floyd I keep in my head.
He should've played Journey of The Sorcerer with Eagles as well.

Wow great picture and great choose of music as well Floyd and Adams together, just seems right some how.
They should re-release HHGTTG with Pink Floyd sound track from Dark Side of the moon, could you imagine that.
Much missed and much loved Doug Adams
