@ydnar0591 Evolution and Creation are different things entirely. Evolution is a proven fact of change over time. The abiogenisis event when life first arose is still a mystery to us, but science has never claimed 100% certainty - unlike religion. Which incidentally, has no evidence to support it.

When I was a Christian I used to rationalize hell as a sort of ultimate choice to reject love, harmony, and truth. Based on that model of reality, sure we would deserve hell, but what would that look like practically? Being rational and scientific and skeptical is not the moral equivalent to worshiping evil. Only a sociopath that delights in self torture would qualify for an eternal hell.

God is love that is the essence of who he is, it is not his desire that people suffer in hell. He loved us so much came to earth to to give his life so we wouldn't have to suffer hell. How is God immoral if he made a way for us to be with him for eternity instead of hell? The only reason hell exists is because God cannot allow evil to win, it has to be dealt with. Do you pray? What for do you hope to change God's mind? Is God fickle? If 100,000 Catholics pray for one thing and 200,000 Protestants pray for the opposite does it affect god's decision? Why do you expect prayer to have an affect when God already knows the outcome.

@IAmARationalApe The desire to love is a pretty good desire man, the world would be a much better place if more people caught on to this idea of love. My idea of a perfect god would be one that loved. How is it a bad thing that god loves?
The general idea/aim of prayer is not so much to make God do something but simply just talk to him. Like I've said it's about love it's about a relationship with God. I've seen a lot of postive change come about in peoples lives through prayer.

So some people get a kick out of talking to God. So what? Some people get a kick out of talking to the poster of their favorite movie star, or to the fairies at the bottom of the garden. This in no way indicates that the object of affection in anyway returns the affection, or even exists.
The desire to love has nothing to do with God. If God didn't exist do you think love would not exist? Why? Love can be explained mechanistically. It's useful to form a bond with another person for mutual survival and the care of young. If you didn't love your kids you wouldn't care if they were eaten by lions. That's not a good way to preserve the species.

If you believe evil exists, then you must beleive in good, or there would be nothing to carpare evil to, if you believe in good then you must believe there is moral law, and if there is moral law then there must be a moral law giver, and God is a moral law giver. If you don't believe in God then, there's NO moral law giver, no moral law, No good, and if there's no good then there's no evil, so what is your question?

Why allow the propagation of a species with the foreknowledge that each individual is cursed even before it is born? Why wait several thousand years before making an attempt to put the problem right? @IAmARationalApe Of course it would be a reasonable to think that there could be more efficient ways to "achieve atonement". My point is, if that punishment and suffering was meant for us but God took it so we wouldn't have to, then that demonstrates his love for us in a pretty huge way. It shows the lengths of which he is willing to go to, to bring us into relationship with him. If he just said ok don't worry about it I forgive you then that would just demonstrate indeferrence.

here's the thing, as much as christians want to justify their belief without sounding evil, they can't . Nowadays we in this country do not have to be afraid of the christians because they'll come after you. so instead of straight up fear mongering, they have to find other ways to justify their belief that justice means something different for a "god" than for a human being. i've heard this shit for years from fundamentalist, it's flawed on it's face alone, because no judge would think of that..

@ydnar0591 the Universe is expanding in all directions - we can see that easily enough. We even kow the rate of expansion - it's called the Hubble Constant. You can extrapolate back the way using this figure to conclude the universe had an initial expansion period about 13.5 billion years ago. This is what we call the Big Bang. The remnants of it are still visible everywhere you look as the Cosmic Microwave Background. It's the static you see on your analogue TV when there's no channel. Happy?

It's called spiritually chaining someone to a relationship. It's an abusive one in which the dominant partner will call the other worthless; without the partner, they are nothing. This abuse causes the person to have this false dependency on the partner. This is EXACTLY what the relationship with God is like.

I'd call credulity and gullibility not so much sins as unfortunate personality traits.
However I would consider 'willful ignorance' a BIG one. Why is it that people get so huffy when someone is physically lazy, whilst MOST people are intellectually lazy as fuck.

When I was a Christian I used to rationalize hell as a sort of ultimate choice to reject love, harmony, and truth. Based on that model of reality, sure we would deserve hell, but what would that look like practically? Being rational and scientific and skeptical is not the moral equivalent to worshiping evil. Only a sociopath that delights in self torture would qualify for an eternal hell.

Therefore it follows, that god (as a parent figure, or dad if you will) will send me (as one of his children, or son if you will) to hell (a torture chamber, would you not agree?).
Any of those assumptions you disagree with? If not, than it is a PERFECT analogy.

God is love that is the essence of who he is, it is not his desire that people suffer in hell. He loved us so much came to earth to to give his life so we wouldn't have to suffer hell. How is God immoral if he made a way for us to be with him for eternity instead of hell? The only reason hell exists is because God cannot allow evil to win, it has to be dealt with. All that is evil in this world must be punished. You've got to understand that God is both loving and just.

Evil is the result of free will, God created us with free will, the ability to choose to do good or to do evil.The reason he created us with free will is because he is love and he desires a father son type love relationship with us but love is not possible without free will. If he made us love him it wouldn't really be love he'd just be controlling us. But yeah there will come time wen he will rid the world entirely of evil.

If God exists and is omnipotent he knows all past present & future events There can be no such thing as free will if our actions can be determined before they happen. If God is perfect why does he have desires? Why the need to create a flawed humanity a a plaything? @Almost0007 - If God knows exactly what you will do (as he must do if he is omnipotent) then you have no choice but to follow whatever path God has seen in your future. You cannot choose another path. All other paths are closed to you. You therefore have no free will you only have an illusion of free will. The only way you can possibly have free will is if this concept of god is false and all future paths are open to you.

Objectively they could made no decisions that were not already in the mind of God and so they only have an illusion of free will.

@Almost0007 If God has desires he is not perfect because a desire implies a lack of contentment. 'God is Love' is as meaningless as God is jealousy. cf (Exodus 20:4-5).
Do you pray? What for do you hope to change God's mind? Is God fickle? If 100,000 Catholics pray for one thing and 200,000 Protestants pray for the opposite does it affect god's decision? Why do you expect prayer to have an affect when God already knows the outcome.
Your belief system is contradictory on so many levels.

@IAmARationalApe The desire to love is a pretty good desire man, the world would be a much better place if more people caught on to this idea of love. My idea of a perfect god would be one that loved. How is it a bad thing that god loves?
The general idea/aim of prayer is not so much to make God do something but simply just talk to him. Like I've said it's about love it's about a relationship with God. I've seen a lot of postive change come about in peoples lives through prayer.

So some people get a kick out of talking to God. So what? Some people get a kick out of talking to the poster of their favorite movie star, or to the fairies at the bottom of the garden. This in no way indicates that the object of affection in anyway returns the affection, or even exists.

The desire to love has nothing to do with God. If God didn't exist do you think love would not exist? Why? Love can be explained mechanistically. It's useful to form a bond with another person for mutual survival and the care of young. If you didn't love your kids you wouldn't care if they were eaten by lions. That's not a good way to preserve the species.

If you believe evil exists, then you must beleive in good, or there would be nothing to carpare evil to, if you believe in good then you must believe there is moral law, and if there is moral law then there must be a moral law giver, and God is a moral law giver. If you don't believe in God then, there's NO moral law giver, no moral law, No good, and if there's no good then there's no evil, so what is your question?

My point is, if that punishment and suffering was meant for us but God took it so we wouldn't have to, then that demonstrates his love for us in a pretty huge way. It shows the lengths of which he is willing to go to, to bring us into relationship with him. If he just said ok don't worry about it I forgive you then that would just demonstrate indeferrence.
