Would I ever say Gonzalez was a number-one player in the world? No, of course not. But he was always right in there with the top players and could give them a solid match any day of the year, and even beat a LOT of players and made it to a G.S Final. Respectable, no?
gonzalez should have played del potro in the semi finals that year. Nadal was so rubbish in the whole tournament, i dont know how he beat Gonzalez in straight sets and then he got his ass handled to him by Juan Martin.
Gonza would put up a great matchup to Del Potro, he would still most likely get beaten but it would be a closer match then it was against Nadal
Actually it was in my reality. Del Potro beat Gonzalez in 2009 twice actually, mister joshuanaconda.
And Del potro was 53-16 comparing to Gonzalez who was 39-16 in 2009.
14 more wins is still a considerable difference. Thats like winning 3 more tournaments. Plus Juan Martin won a grand slam at hardly 21 years of age, also in 2009. Something that Gonzalez will never do. All facts are against you.
Actually, they are not. You failed to mention that he only has defeated Gonzalez once while he has lost 3 times against him. You also forgot to mention that one of your victory claims was actually a tied set 1-1 with Gonzalez stoping the match due to a severe injury. The fact is that Gonzalez started getting old in 2008 and lots of players have defeated him since then. You also forgot to mention that Gonzalez has 188 more victories on tour than del potro and more tittles.
okay you have your facts, i have my facts lets leave it that way cause im not one of those keyboard warriors to insult and argue over the internet.
But you are constantly CONTRADICTING your previous statements.
Your first reply is laughing at me and saying "del potro could only beat gonzalez in my dreams". Then i prove you wrong and you now post an excuse that "gonzalez was getting old in 2008".
Oh, and I don't say he will never do it, he almost reached a final only 2 years ago, he will come back, new, refreshed and stronger and play good tennis for another 2 years. The best forehand in history is way bigger than winning a grand slam, Rios from Chile was number 1 and never won one either.
and no shit, gonzalez has more victories and more titles?? (SARCASM)
He is 8 years older then Del Potro and you just started talking about his age and then again contradict yourself and post crap like that again.
Gonzalez beat him 3 times at first, but did you check when? Del Potro was 17 years old in their first match (he was still a junior). 2nd match they played he was 18 years old (still a junior) and the last match he beat him del potro was 18 years and 5 months old
"the best forehand in history is way bigger than winning a grand slam"
LMFAO i dont even know whether to laugh or to cry when i read your comments.
No harsh feelings buddy but your intelligence level cant be that far from a fish. (Not Mardy Fish dont get confused), a real fish. Like an animal, you know. hahaha
loool joshuanaconda you really are a dumbass mate. What is this bull-shit you are posting? having the strongest forehand is way bigger then winning a slam? why dont you explain that to roger federer who has 16 of them. Tell roger he just wasted his career because those slams are nothing comparing to fernando gonzalez's forehand. loool what a fcking idiot u are
Like you said, I said "a slam" not 16. No need to be insulting man, oh wait, when you can't refute subjective matters there is only one way to make your point.. yeah, you tell me which way it is. Go watch the thundercats buddy, ciao!
Fernando Gonzalez is a very humble and honest person, He get's angry.. yes, many players do but he is no cheat for sure and happens to have the strongest and most amazing forehand in the history of the sport
@joshuanaconda Sampras' FH was better because it was more consistent. Lendl's was arguably better for the same reason. But Gonzalez has the shots to be a top-five player, except maybe his serve and returns. Otherwise he has the goods.
Gonzalez forehand is very consistent when he is not injured and way, way more powerfull than sampras, in fact, he has the world records with Monfilis on the strongest forehand ever hit and in the top 6 of the most ammount of winners with that shoot and he still has 2 more years on tour to improve that record
@joshuanaconda I didn't say he couldn't hit it harder. There were guys on the tour when Sampras was in his prime who could rip it harder. The point is very few have or had Sampras' combination of power and precision. Besides, Gonzalez uses the juiced babolats compared to Sampras' 6.0 85. Considering the difference between sticks makes Sampras' ability even greater. Monfils is even less consistent but he will hit an incredible FH winner every now and then.
Did you know Gonzalez has beaten 9 number 1 players while they were at numer 1 ? .. Hewitt, Safin, Rodick, Sampras, Federer, Nadal, Ferrero, Moya and Kuerten. How do you manage to do that with a shitty voley and backhand AND a broken hip and right knee for 5 years ...? having the best forehand in the history of tennis, I love Sampras to bits, great guy, incredible tennis player, I guess it's a matter of taste.
@joshuanaconda Yes and I've watched him choke match after match after match. I said in my first that he has a big enough game to be a top-five player, he's just not consistent or strategic enough. He relies on a couple of big shots to do all the work. But why is it people always find a way to make excuses for underachievement or poor performances? He has a far bigger FH than Federer but I don't think it's better. Why? Because he doesn't have the control. So your point was?
there is no point to be made , as I stated, it's a subjective topic, a matter of taste, numbers don't lie, check your data and come back if you wish. You were the one that came here saying sampras fh was better, something you can't prove, just your opinion. No need to continue this "debate". I don't think his career can be considered underachievement , He is by far the most spectacular player to watch IMHO, the only one I would pay a ticket to watch, just my 0.2
@joshuanaconda did gonzalez ever play del po? now that would be a match, unfourtantly is see delpo's career going similiar to gonzalez with the injurys, hopefuly he wont fade away and just become a good forehand
FERNANDO GONZALEZ vs MOHAMED ALI o Tsonga?? jejeje... Vamos Chileno este 2011 estamos contigo nuevamente.. estas de vuelta con triunfos Fernando.. Viva Chile Mierda!!!!!
@aftfnm Sorry somehow touched the thumbs down button. Ok sooo... There was a crucial break point for Blake during a rally and he hit a good high shot and Gonzalez touched it with his racket for sure, which is why the shot went out, but it was really fast so no one really noticed at the time, but Gonzalez swears he didn't touch the ball. After the match it's shown he really did touch the ball. You know when you've touched the ball with you racket and thats why I feel like he cheated.
This man defeated 11 number 1 players, ELEVEN. The game will miss you Gonzo, the most destructive forehand in tennis history, period.

@joshuanaconda who are the eleven?...remerber: federer, agassi, sampras, hewitt, roddick, safin, nadal, djokovic...
