I think most of Canada is CDMA while Rogers is one of the few, if only, GSM carriers as someone mentioned. So to make the iPhone work they would need to create a CDMA version. I work for a phone company in Canada that also has a CDMA network and the other problem is Data access. With a goddam Blackberry, after paying for the voice side, I would have to pay $40/mo for 2MB of data. 10 fricken dollars per megabyte you use beyond the 2MB. It's goddam ridiculous.
the big reason for the iphone for not heading to canada is not really Steve Jobs just holding it back, but Rogers. The same package in the US is around $80 mark. In Canada the same package with Rogers is around $250 or more. Steve has asked for a better pricing, but Rogers wont budge on the price since if they did they would have to lower the gouging price that they already charge on Black Berry's and such.
Like "mrhogg" was saying, Rogers from what I understand is the only one that supports the format that the iPhone is preferred on.
Rogers Canada like to over price and gouge everyone and don't want to give into reasonable pricing. I would love to get rid of my Black Berry for an iPhone as I'am an Apple Tech, but think it will be a while yet.

Rogers been a GSM monopoly in Canada, and wont agree to Apple's terms. Revenue sharing, unlimited data etc.
There is Fido GSM in Canada, but guess what thats owned by Rogers.

considering our iphones will cost us about $580 usd, while its $400 there, i'd rather be in a canadians position since its only a "train or bus" journey for your phones. Seems like we have to pay the shipping and vat + tips for ours when they do get here

i wouldn't mind paying 200$ more for free internet. If we buy it from the states, we have to get it unlocked and not only that. Half of the applications on the iphone wont work because you need internet. o and not every one is near a wifi hot spot 24/7 so it be gay most of the times. I think most of Canada is CDMA while Rogers is one of the few, if only, GSM carriers as someone mentioned. So to make the iPhone work they would need to create a CDMA version. I work for a phone company in Canada that also has a CDMA network and the other problem is Data access. With a goddam Blackberry, after paying for the voice side, I would have to pay $40/mo for 2MB of data. 10 fricken dollars per megabyte you use beyond the 2MB. It's goddam ridiculous.

the big reason for the iphone for not heading to canada is not really Steve Jobs just holding it back, but Rogers. The same package in the US is around $80 mark. In Canada the same package with Rogers is around $250 or more. Steve has asked for a better pricing, but Rogers wont budge on the price since if they did they would have to lower the gouging price that they already charge on Black Berry's and such.
