In fact China is developing a nuclear powered carrier fleet as we speak to challange the American presence in the Pacific. The issue of Taiwan for what I see, will probably be settled with a partial unification with the mainland just like HK SAR. Unfortunately, no country right now not even The US dare to stand against China, she has gone too powerful.

although i'm chinese i have much respect for the japanese code of martial valour. The best in the world. Yamashita of the 14 th army is the best general in history. All the japanese soldiers really did believe in the co prosperity sphere vs western imperilism. If i ever visit japan i would go to pay respects in the yasikuni shrine.

In Okinawa, in 1945, about one hundred thousand civilians were killed by shelling of US. But nowadays Japanese do not blame US of the murder like Chinese do.

Shoukaku and Zuikaku were most advanced and long-distance ranged high speed carriers in the world at that moment.
Their diesel motors had max. effect 160,000 PS (!!), and they could cruise with 35 kt/h. Incredible performance!

The Japanese imperial navy had also aircraft carriers Hiryu, Zuikaku, Soukaku, Houshou, Ryujou, Zuihou and Taiyou, totally 10 carriers in 1941.

1 Hosho, 1 Kaga, 2 Hiryu Class, 2 Shokaku Class, 1 Akagi, 1 Ryujo. Und acht weitere Träger waren zu der Zeit im Bau bzw. wurden aus anderen Schiffen gerade umgebaut.

@GuanYu89 oops sorry since we had a population 10 times bigger in a war of atrrition we will win. Besides the japanese command was screwed up. They had no combined arms like the americans did. The navy had one set of orders, the 14th army had its own. Their belief in martial valour did back fire, their wreapons were hopeless vs the thompsons/garands that the allies used. the type 99 riffle and 92 MG really sucked. perharps we should ask why did we lose at nanking. And at singapore.
