A great era and I think the best for EJ. This vid is very badly sync'd though, and it wasn't the best of the day - no wonder he 'hates doing video' (see Tantrums & Tiaras).
LOL, I remember when Elton put that pie in KiKi Dee's face, it was in '79 I think; they had just recently recorded "Don't go breaking my heart". Don't know if he was angry (but kinda think so) as they never did duets again. That era ROCKED for me and all my friends. Happy Holidays! DiaperBoy:-)
@Letsgojettin He did another duet with Kiki in the '93 album duets. i can't think of the song name right off hand. I don't know why he pied her. Elton's head and nose were "in the snow" so a lot of crazy shit was going on.
Whos the girl at the end w/the pie? Kiki Dee? Cute. 1985 was a uncanny year for music. Ppl were filling stadiums for A-Ha, Prince copycat acts, Iron Maiden &Power Station. Even the most serious legends like Elton, decided 2go w/the flow &make innocuous, synth pop w/the rest. No biggie. I always thot it wud hav been cool, if George Micheal had replaced Freddie Mercury in Queen, after his illness. Call it blasphemous. But their vocal range &star power were similar. It cud have worked, IMHO.
The band, the backing singers, G. M. & K. D. the video, the production ( Gus RIP) & the lyrics. What else can I say. Very high art. I LOOOVE It. Elton I love you. SL4 Neighbour !!! xx
Most definately in my mind was the "wrap HIM up" thought, and how, with his influence/money/prestige he could "get" most anyone in "that way"...it's kinda obvious the high energy level demonstrated in the preformance was of a coca nature. Reminded me of the silly but well done movie "The Toy" with Richard Pryor and Jackie Gleason. If one were to go to "Reggie Van Gleason" (on You Tube) Mr. Gleaso can be seen snorting while doing his favorite character, Reggie Van Gleason III. Enjoy.
i wonder if deon estus played on this track...Im pretty sure he did...any one know? FYI deon estus was wham = GM's bass player but i know they all worked togerther mid 80s
@sprintbass - Wikipedia lists Deon Estus as playing bass on this whole album, except for "Too Young" (John Deacon played on that track). I loved all the stuff Deon did with Wham!
@TheLastBrainLeft technically unture.. he did Nikita with geroge micheals entire band and wrpa her up, both songs were all over the radio at the time i was 13 then..
@radioonemike no. He came out as bi in 76 then got married to Renata in '84. he thought all his problems including his drug and alcohol use would get better if he was with a woman but he was ultimately fooling himself knowing full well he prefered guys so they divorced in 88.
It is somewhat ironic that two gay men are singing "Wrap Her Up". Notthattheresanythingwrongwiththat. Both are very talented. Elton sure didn't look like a pop star back in the 70s. He was chubby, wore thick glasses and had a receding hair line. That is one of the problems with the music business since the MTV Era. Too much is based on looks.
Christ this brings back memories. When MTV was still playing music videos and there was a buzz about what artist was going to collaborate with whom for their next video. It was cool, it was exciting, it was a completely different world.
I have every Elton album from 1970 to present. This song and the LP it came from really stink. 1980s dated synth junk. Try Tumbleweed Connection or 11-17-70 instead. Or even Capt and the Kid from 2006 for the good stuff.
@ellenwispa they both used to date girls at one time, Elton was MARRIED to a woman for 3 years, do not get all pissey about who sleeps with who MOST gays do not HATE women. Try to get a life and just enjoy a song because it s a good song
@MsLadyRobin Ah yes of course... Elton John... another one of your fave singers, who also just happens to be gay. This is becoming more than a coincidence... and you know that most gays do not hate women.. of course you do Robin, BECAUSE YOU ARE ONE!!!

Look around here on youtube, you'll find a few females thinking the same. No, seriously. ''Hot'' may be a bit too far fetched (it was late in the night ;-) ), but I dig his dark eyes without the glasses, and the gap between his teeth has something cute... I'm European, I heard we are cooler about bad teeth. *g*) Actually, 'cute' might be the better word, let's say the music he did in the Seventies and early Eighties is absolutely hot. And that's something I'll say at every day or night time.
I am a girl and think he was VERY HOT. Well, HE WAS.... Having perfect body and pretty face is still not enough to be called a HOT MAN. Must be some charisma too, and it's more important... Elton had it.....He doesnt show much of it recently... But still, enjoy listening occasionaly to his interviews - he is very intelligent and and nice person, very strong person, which doesnt happen so often with SUPER-PUPER-STARS. And i find it attarctive as well.
I think this is the worst EJ song. And I'm one of the few who likes his 80s catalogue over (most of) his 70s (but definitly consider his 70s very good)
well shit for brains......if you werea girl would you want a faggot to design your dress or a red neck shit kicker. ever see the fab 5? halston???????? shit for brains, go to bed! i think that you like it up the ass, don't ya buddy?
If Elton & George perform this song on now they could change the names at the end to people like Britney Spears, Christina Agurelia, Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Beyonce Knowles, Kylie Mingoue
"He came from a lot of blues and funk. And he did have that soulful quality about himself that wasn't typical in the artists of his day."

Shame on Elton for not giving George more face time - we finally get to see him at 2:36 - we should have been able to see him from 0:01 since he was clearly having so much fun and we LOVE his moves!!
I had the hugest crush on this guy that worked at our local Pizza Hut. He was 11 years older than me and just a total babe. I was only 16 at the time, and would go to have Pizza every Saturday just to see him. This song would play sometime in the course of my visit. He was the sweetest guy, and was very tolerant of my crush even though I hadn't realized it could never be.
I remember buying this song in the early spring of March,1986 at this record store. I had a crush on this chinese girl who worked there. She was at least 5 years older than me and I was a senior in H.S. She drove a car and I rode a bike. Definitely out of my league. I asked her out but she said no because she already had a boyfriend. But I could tell she was flattered that I asked her out. Ahh, the memories. Love the song. Very catchy and something you can dance to.
This song cant be gay! Its beyond gay to the point where the line does not exist. It is not even a blip on the gaydar, because S.S Flamboyance is way too far out to sea. Its actually quite brilliantly entertaining from a horrifically cheesy point of view. Were they trying to be ironic? Who knows? But its genius!! GENIUS I TELL YA!! LOL!!
Well, my comment is based on the fact that, two of the most flamboyant musicians sing it, AND they spend the last two and a half minutes shouting out names of 80s diva names! Imaging the names they'd be shouting if the song came out now.....
JCSJS, your comment made me laugh out loud, that just cracked me up. I am also gay (isn't everyone?} and I know I've heard other tunes that scream queen much more so than this silly little diddy, but I haven't laughed out loud like that for sometime now! Thanks for the funny!
If you couldn't tell that Marilyn Monroe was Elton's favorite actress growing up, then look no further than this video...;-)MMM very hot ladies on this vid indeed!
okay-finally the black gal and the poofy haired white gal-are his regular background singers-Please look at Sad Song on my Favorites list-Can someone figure out if they are the same-I can't sing but have a good ear for sound-they sound exactly the same? Someone said his background singers in the 80's were all black gals-I differ.
Who is the absolutly gorgeous backing vocal chick? The one with her hair up who points her finger at the camera when she sings "wrap her up" she also starts laughing when Elton John sings about BB.
True that-but he included Shirely Temple and First Lady Nancy-makes it less man-pig-And I want to wrap up ALL those dudes in the Deep Blue Something when they play Breakfast at Tiffanys.
A great era and I think the best for EJ. This vid is very badly sync'd though, and it wasn't the best of the day - no wonder he 'hates doing video' (see Tantrums & Tiaras).

Elton's biggest problem in the '80s was not that he came out as bi in '83 after getting a divorce from his wife. It was his excessive drug use.
And still he created hits. Not his classics like "Madman Across The Water" et al, but hits just the same.

okay-finally the black gal and the poofy haired white gal-are his regular background singers-Please look at Sad Song on my Favorites list-Can someone figure out if they are the same-I can't sing but have a good ear for sound-they sound exactly the same? Someone said his background singers in the 80's were all black gals-I differ.

Who is the absolutly gorgeous backing vocal chick? The one with her hair up who points her finger at the camera when she sings "wrap her up" she also starts laughing when Elton John sings about BB.

Yes. But that's good, because that's the only entertainment value left in it.

True that-but he included Shirely Temple and First Lady Nancy-makes it less man-pig-And I want to wrap up ALL those dudes in the Deep Blue Something when they play Breakfast at Tiffanys.

Sexy George !!!
faastluv 4 years ago
George is a good looking guy, a little bit hairy but none the less attractive. Elton looks so different without glasses, it's baffling.

But I also love him without glasses.. Elton is magic :)
