If i was going to buy a new widescreen tv with a homecinema set i would completely avoid sony, their manuals on setup and options are badly detailed and dont tell you about any of the feature advertised on tele, you are also unable 2 use both your home cinema speakers and built in tv speakers at the same time wasting the extra money used 2 purchase the extra. It also deosnt express how to connect laptops and computers to upload files on your television screen. so go with something easy 2 set up.

@SPgamerPS3 you won't be disappointed , i have the 60 inch KDL-ex500 and it's awsome. great for everything. The only think that i didn't like is the USB only reads sony products i.e sony camcorder, or camera. if you want to connect an ipod you would have to buy the sony ipod dock in-order to connect with the tv. but overall great tv i love it.

It seems all the internet technology comes only on the big screen tvs around 32 inches or larger they dont have the technolgy on smaller sets.We have a sony its always had a great picture im not sure about the flat size tv picture looking darker.I would have someone from the store install it and make sure the internet functions well so i could get you tube or netflix.

to THELEGENDOFDARKNESS. contrast isnt set on one standard to base their tvs on. everyone sony,samsung,ect...they all measure contrast differently. ur comparing apples to oranges..u can only compare apples to apples because what 1million to one in sony might be 5 million to one in a samsung so u cant judge by what the contrast is if ur talking different manufacturers. they measure contrast in diff ways..so ur comment makes no sense at all. xbr10 is great but the technology of the xbr8 is better

This question relates to the posting below. One solution is to run all my components through the surround sound receiver, and then have a single HDMI connection from the receiver to the control box. Then only the control box would have to be hung from the ceiling. The manual says to route all inputs through the control box, but generally you can go the component-to-receiver-to-TV route, but is there something special about the control box that would prevent this option here.

I have a setup problem with my new xbr 10. The separate control box that runs the monitor must face the monitor (because they communicate by line of sight infrared) rather than the customary placement of besides or below the monitor. Sony hasn't been helpful on this. The only thing I can think of is to hang the control (and all the components?) from the ceiling behind me. Or could I use an infrared repeater?

ok led edge is great....but local dimming leds are superior in providing the truest picture.....even deeper richer black and color....because the edge leds are on the edge if there is a dark spot in the display the whole screen has to darken a little bit to compinsate for that spot......versus if the i a whole panel of local dimming leds......only the leds behind then dark spot would dim keeping the rest of the picture accurate....this is found in the samsung 8500 series led.....

with 120hz/ 240hz..the processor is guessing what the frames should look like before the next one comes.this leaves room for error and is not a true accurate picture u were intended to see. that error u get whats called the "halo" effect around the outline of people and objects.did the movie makers really intend for u to see the "halo"? 24p on say like a 600hz subfield drive plasma is porbably the best representation of what u were intended u too see...not putting frames where they dont belong.

Sony is good too, but the Sony XBR10 only does 1,000,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio. The Samsung B8000 does 5,000,000:1.  This pretty much shows how deep and crisp the picture can get. The Samsung B8000 is also easier to use and setup.
