@janeinthemtnss He's being a horse. My mares and geldings do it..It's like u sniffing something twice..It's the process of analyzing a scent. She is doing nothing wrong with her stallion. I have owned & trained over 10 stallions and they all do this. Maybe if he was hoping around id say it was pourly handled but she moved him along which was the smart thing to do. Studs arent always aggressive. Mine is just like a gelding he does that a lot but he never has done anything as stupid as you claim.

I think there was a mare in heat before your being and he being really happy if you want a tame well horse is better than it geld all my horses they are gelded and behave very well and those who are stallions are horrible brave and when they see a mare can knock down for breed the mare.
It's called the Fleshman response. ALL HORSES do it. It's a way of 'gathering' more of a scent up into the nostrils. Stallions do it for obvious reasons - identifying mares in season.
Well he was happy! The place where I work, we have an appaloosa who used to be a teaser but her got gelded this last year. He still remembers his golden day because he still thinks he's a stud when my mare gets into heat!
lol we used to have a shetland stallion with our arabian mare. (he wasnt tall enough so we didnt really worry) he was sniffing under her tail when she took a dump on his face!!!! then of course he "smiled!"
The horse is just flemming(I think it's what it's called).. But the horse is doing it because a mare might have peed there. Because your horse can smell that, he do that with his nose. It's quite the same as when male dogs marks their territories..
My best friends horse are doing that too, although her horse do it all the time..
Part of a horses olfactry (no clue how to spell it) sense is an organ in the upper lip, doing that brings in the sent for the brain to process it. it gives the horse information like a mare in heat. cat's large and small have a similar organ in the roof of the mouth which makes them make a "stinky face". both look silly doing it.
i think the stallion sensed something.. i red a book and it says the horse's either sensing something or annoyed when he/she does dat. I wonder what tho
well horses don't only make that face to distribute pheremones and what not. There is a bit in that horses mouth and horses either move their tongue to try and push it out or sometimes they do that lip movement. Mine does it everytime we put a bit in his mouth, but after a while he stops
Like beneath me. Stallions do that when they smell a mare in heat. They do that do inhale the scent deep and process it. I hate it once. I think it was because I smell like my dogs xD
it isnt a "spasm" it called the flehmans face and it's to distribute the pheremones and scent to their olfactory organs. It's completely voluntary so calling it a spasm is misleading.
althogh he he pretty there are way to many fugly horses out there that are beign sent to slaughter becuase they are low quality. so please stop breeding ur horse
