  • First of all you use up a good bit of energy by deadlifting the bar to get it up for the bench. this energy should have been used solely for the bench.

    secondly lifting your legs off the ground like that only increases strength to abdominals...which isnt needed here

    thirdly you are neither deadlifting nor doing bent over rows...the exercise you were doing would only strain the lower back because of your stance and the excessive lowering of the weight.

    Try doing clean and jerk supersetted with DL

    I see many people on youtube lifting a lot of weight. They don't feel any pain in the back YET so they think "I can do it". BUT there comes the time to settle down all the minor damages don to the spinal. And after that everybody calmes down a bit.

Many of them training without time off for over 30 years. Consisting of former olympians, world class powerlifters, and collegiate athletes. I'd bet that more people hurt their spine because their backs are WEAK. You talk of anatomy ignorance, but I want to see the truth in the numbers. SHOW ME A STUDY REFERENCE TO BACK UP YOUR GENERALIZATION.

  • @rommelervin I agree with these articles. I do agree that the main population have weak backs and should not do this exercise. The problem isn't necessarily the exercise, it is the execution of the exercise and weight selection. People need to lift within their ability to prevent spinal injuries from occuring. To say that people need to wear a belt while training IS ignorant. Neither article mentions wearing a belt is essential to preventing spinal injury.

In the 1st letter u got your examples from Gyms "How do you explain the dozen men " ecc. Sorry to say, this is ignorant. U also contradict urself by stating "'law of individual differences' ". WELL the pwrlftrs you see in the gyms that don't get hurt are really FEW worldwide. Besides in the beginning we all are WEAK. The path to getting strong is dangerous

  • @rommelervin I agree that by 'default' homo sapiens backs are weak. This doesn't mean that they have to be...with proper training and gradual progression, many have defied this logic. Just because a weight is stressful for one person, does't mean it is for another. The 'law of individual differences' accounts for genetic differences in people as it pertains to weight training. Many PRO sports are far more dangerous to the spine than weightlifting, does that mean people should stop playing?

  • @rommelervin ((Sorry for the long reply)) AND should pro athletes wear belts in competition/games if they are so dangerious to the spine? No, it would limit their ability on the field and it wouldn't be very funtional.

  • @PWRLFTR242 No, we should not stop playing, but more attention is needed. U see, bodybuilders of the 70's wrote many books based on themselves and on what they saw in the Gyms. You act the same. We cannot base training on SOME (and HUGE) individuals we personally SEE. Most of their exercises r really suicidals. I worked for months in a minery. There I hurted my spine and now in the Gym I can quicly feel every improper posture & exercise. Besides more we grow more the cartilage gets less flexible

I passed my CSCS exam at the age of 23 and have worked with hundreds of multi-sport athletes, was a strength coach for a university, myself a multi-American PL Record Holder and have NEVER seen a spinal injury from weightlifting. Sounds like you are making generalizations about weight training based on your personal injuries and not sound experience or education. You are probably educated, but that doesn't mean that you are an expert or informed.

Propably you haven't seen injuries of the spines since those injures don't become visible the moment of the exercise but 99% on the long run which means that can become visible while you bend to lift your shoes. Hazzards of spine accumulate like UVB-UVA on the skin. On the other hand there is a contradiction in your statements "I have NEVER seen a spinal injury from weightlifting" but yet you admit the articles I have shown. NOT everybody is ACCOMPAGNED by a PRO instructor

  • @rommelervin There is NO contradiction in my statement. I have never seen a spinal injury from weightlifting. That doesn't mean I've never heard of one. I train with men who are in their 60s who have trained and competed for 3 decades. They can still bend over and touch their toes without grunting. The articles are a good read, but as with everything you read, take it with a grain of salt. Not everything you read is 100% accurate and should not be taken as religion. Don't drink the koolaid

I am not naive to that. You are 1000% correct when you say the youth of the world are very misinformed about training.   • I don't understand what the purpose of t his is. There is the clean which isn't a vertical clean but an odd incline clean. Then there is the incline bench press but the guy is too tired from the clean to get any decent reps on the incline bench press. Then there is the de-loading of the weight and the bent over rows. Wouldn't it be better to just do some standing clean and jerks??? Some Olympic style weightlifting. The clean and jerk would hit all the same muscles.
