Why not just use the wheels that come with the bote they are quick and easy to install? I plan to build an apparatus that will fit on my bote folded and strap all the seating to the bote and be able to go fishing with my bike where I can assemble for either land or sea and get around with motor for either. Plan to place a motor on the bike but rather not have to come out of pocket for a 4 stroke motor don't want to have to carry 2 fuels onboard could just mix by the tank for the bike?
I have come up with a design for a trailer that is light weight enough to for 2 people too easily lift and place on top of a trailer or truck rack. trying to think of a good way to make it collapsable .
nice concept but the design looks weak. although I do feel there is a need for such a type of trailer and I am also in the process of designing one for myself. have you used the trailer yet? post a video if you have please
I've used it many times w/ no repairs. The trailer's primary stability comes through the integral strength of the boat. Together, they become solid as a rock. It's a towable dolley, not a DOT roadworthy trailer. I posted a whole bunch of photos of the boat on the Yahoo's Portabote Forum in the folder Rick's Pics. You have to sign up to view member photos. Send me a link when you get your's done. I'd be curious to see how you can improve it with a limited size and weight.
very cool. how heavy is it. I would also like to see the boat sitting on the trailer. Also I would like to see how you keep the boat on their because there looked like no winch.
It weighs less than 25lbs. It budles up to about 15" X 15". I designed it to carry inside my Dodge short-bed truck at about 51/2' long. I carry the boat on my Thule roof rack and when we go Rv'n or camping and need the bed space in the bed, the rack rides on the roof too with the boat. Lots of pics in Yahoo Portabote Forum in the folder Rick's Pics.
Could you show a video with the boat on the trailer. I would also like to see how it sits and how you tie it to the trailer without a winch is there any plans could be posted on here.
It straps on with 3 motorcycle type tie downs. One short one on each side to the axle mounts and one around the trailer at the bow. It doesn't need a winch, just put it in the water and it floats on & off. Otherwise, me & the wife handle it just fine. I can tow it with the motor and fully loaded for fishing. We've "hand" launhed it fully loaded too. By adjusting the balance point fore or aft and you can pick it up with one hand.
Outstanding design. When I was looking at it at the beginning. I was like that going to fall apart. I was thinking put unions in that. Anyway. I Like Your idea better plus cheaper. Use Pins. Smart move and Cheaper. Also nicely done. From a plumber. Peace and God bless.
Thanks, that means a lot com'n from a Plumber! In the video I was struggling with tight drop pin holes. After that video, I opened them up a bit and they drop right in now. I used pins with clips, but never bothered to put the clips on.
Nice. But some info on how you made it would help. Hows the trailer hitch made? I've seen simalier on the PBG page. Would be nice to see how well the boat sits on it. Maybe good for alot of pb people. Thanks
The trailer hitch is custom made starting with a Harbor Freight 2" / 50* weld on. I had to mod it to 45* to work with the std. PVC 45* & 90* angle pieces. It's sandwiched together with a matching bottom plate, two bolts with some inside alignment pieces.
The Bote contributes to the overall integrity of the trailer. This trailer / dolly is not DOT rated or roadworthy and is for off-road use only.
Next time I go out I'll post a video with the Bote on it.
