Why does it sound less fiery in the recent footage but in the earlier footage it's explosive? I've never understood this.

@Khultan Well, there're two reasons. In the older footage, the technology wasn't as advanced. Thusly, this made the recordings more gritty and raw. In later footage the technology became more complex, and you could understand him more. The other reason is, when you age, your start to get tired, more subdued, weaker. James Brown worked nearly everyday of his life on the road and had never stopped until he died. Those are the two reasons I can muster.
