Who cares what his personality is like? The paintings speak for themselves....they tell you who he really is. So he's flawed, he's an alcoholic, he's a human being....so what? Perhaps it's a tragedy for him that he's an alcoholic, but at the same time he's pissing some people off, he's giving us these fanrastic images. How can we complain? Would his art lose something if he was a 'normal' well adjusted person? Who knows? Why should artists be good at promoting and selling themselves?

He is brilliant.. Yes. No dought about it, but he has bitten the hand that feads him. He had a grand opportunity with Martin Scorsese, but he blew that away when he insulted his film based on his life. He is ungrateful of all the opportunities that he has had in his career.

This guy is an alcoholic, period. So what he has talent.

Who cares, so do a lot of people. You know why Schnabel is so successful and Chucky is not? Because Schnable had the good sense not piss of people until he made it. Connelly is an egomaniac and that has nothing to do with being a good artist.

I'm amazed he's still alive and that someone has not killed this jerk yet.

He needs to get sober.

Doesn't matter what you have to say. Van Gogh, and Rothko were also major boozers. Perhaps you thought they were vile also...Schnabel? I would gladly hang one of Chuck's paintings in my home in general as they are very good paintings and certainly over one of Schnabel's monstrosities of material.

Chuck makes me happy! If money dropped into my life this moment I would spend the first bit of it buying some of his art so I could be reminded of what matters. He's a great artist and I bet now people know it if they ever forgot.

Here is the sadness to it all. The dealers are flying above the house like vultures waiting to start setting deals with Chuck's relatives when he dies. It is really sad that they always win in the end, just like they did with VanGogh and many others.

My advice is to get an agent and stop dealing with the god damn galleries direct. Wyeth told them to go screw themselves, you can too.

Hemingway,Van Gogh or Soutine he is not.His vulgarity is pure.You're either part of the problem or part of the solution.Chuck exists to"divide and conquer "every artist,patron or gallery owner he has ever met.The reason we don't have an Art Movement in the U.S. is because of people like C.C.I knew this guy in the East Village.He reminded me of "Baby Huey"(an old cartoon)>Look it up!

Talented? His paint is lifeless. Every picture I've seen of his is mediocre, a bad and often saccharine work of illustration. And I'm not convinced he's really the angry, gonzo enfant terrible he pretends to be. In other words, he acts like an asshole. If his work was really good, we could overlook it. But I think the only reason anyone even knows his name is because of his "personality", which caters to the stereotype of a bad TV movie "troubled genius". Chuck Connelly: who cares?

i care and im sure a whole lot of other people do too. maybe his art doesnt suit your taste but i think that it is brilliant. Also, an artists personality plays almost as much of a role in their success as their art does. look at andy warhol, his greatest acheivement was building himself as a public character. so, before you ask who cares, maybe you should try to not just think of yourself.

"Who cares?" is rhetorical. It means that the world is indifferent to artists, but not their work. The only "personality" that matters is in the work. Do we care anything about the problems, feelings, appearance or behavior of Velasquez, or Cezanne, Botticelli? Anyone who buys into the "bad boy", macho act of painters like this is allowing themselves to be distracted from seeing what's in front of them. And my "taste" has nothing to do with it, either.
