Could someone give me some details on how the flyer works??? I'm having trouble trying to wrap my mind around how the spool knows when to take up new yarn and how does it spread out on the bobbon with out bunching up in one spot? I'd LOVE to make my own spinning wheel but this part iiludes me to be sure!

56TonyT - The feed of the yarn onto the bobbin is controlled by the person doing the spinning - the break tension allows the yarn to be drawn onto the bobbin but it only happens if the spinner allows the yarn to move toward the bobbin. Some wheels have hooks spread out across the flyer that the yarn feeds over and as that portion of the bobbin fills with yarn, the spinner will move the yarn to another hook to fill another portion of the bobbin. Other wheels have a single hook that can slide.
