u dont want to b a model believe me! al of my friends r like "omg u have the perfect body b a model" im like "umm heck no" because even tho im still skinny, they would still starve me so i can b quote "perfect" media is sick..... everyone is sooo beautiful wide or thin short or all! thumbs up if everyone is beautiful! <3 :)
but yeah your truee,,, like in runways the bathrooms ALWAYS smell like throw up ! it's sick... but I love what i do ! and the second they try to talk bout my body i'll leave ;D
That's all everyone ever remembers about Karen Carpenter... the fact that she was anorexic. You know she was much more than that? We all have our own demons we fight everyday, and that was hers...
My dream job is to be a model. But there are two things wrong with that dream. 1) I'm not tall enough. I'm 5'7". 2) I'm not skinny enough. I weigh 130.
Basically. I'm not happy with my body. I wish I looked like a model, not necissarily as bony though.
Compare 2:32 to 2:17, which ones look healthier? Wich ones do we see everyday on TV/magazines/Ads? Which ones do we see actually walking among us on the streets and shopping in stores? Which ones have more of an impact?
I am just sick of all of this. Even if you're skinny, you're not perfect. I am naturally 84 pounds and 5' 4". This cannot be helped; It's purely genetic. But I have gotten many remarks from guys and girls alike, saying that I'm "too skinny" and that I should fatten myself up. Guys think that I'm ugly.
What the hell. Either this is irony, or a shocking reminder of the amount of vanity in this millennia.
The picture at 2:17 made me stop at look at it for a while. The women in that picture are just so stunning! They're not 'skinny' but they sure look a lot more 1.beautiful 2. healthy and 3. happier! than all of those 'perfect sized people' they are beautiful.
As a red blooded heterosexual male I speak for countless others like me when I say that being overly thin is not attractive. The only thing I think of when I see those models is "Eat a cheeseburger!"
Nice video, but I hate people bashing Barbie! I had Barbies growing up and I don't even wear make-up. What really makes girls feel bad are magazines and tv ads. Barbie is just meant to be a way for a girl to imagine and have fun. She is made a certain way so it's easy to put dresses on her etc. Also, if women like mothers etc. complain about their figure it has a huge effect on the younger girls.
Today's models are ugly! In the 1970s, women were natural. Now, it's practically a sin to be "pretty" as well as naturally proportioned. You're expected to have some sort of neurotic, waiflike edge, and it's tiresome.
Three thoughts. (1) It is not a healthy thing for the average woman to by 5'4" and a size 14. A BMI over 30 is not healthy, for men or for women. (2) Healthy women are naturally beautiful. This requires cooking and eating healthy food, like my girlfriend does for me. (3) My girlfriend has curves and I love it! I hope she never loses them.
@mpmcd81 Hate to break it to you but BMI tells you nothing about your body. It's just an inaccurate math equation. It does not take into consideration the muscle mass or fat mass of a person, or their body type, or bone structure. So don't rely on it as a measure of health, thanks. I'm 5'5", a size 12 (not the same as above but similar) and perfectly fine. I suffer from no health issues related to my weight. :)
@mpmcd81 UM. a woman who is 5'4" and 140 pounds is NOT a size 14. i'm 5'2" and 130 and i'm a very healthy size 6. i will never be boney; i'm built to be athletic. i was a size 14 when i USED to be 190 pounds. in fact, i got up to 205 before i got healthy and dropped 75 pounds. your info is off.
In May 1997 Mattel introduced Share a Smile Becky, a doll in a pink wheelchair. Kjersti Johnson, a 17-year-old high school student in Tacoma, Washington with cerebral palsy, pointed out that the doll would not fit into the elevator of Barbie's $100 Dream House. Mattel announced that it would redesign the house in the future to accommodate the doll.
Although the average weight for a 5'3" woman is 140lb., there are a lot of fat people to skew the average up. I agree that models are a bit too skinny, however the "average" is quite large when you think about it. I cannot imagine myself with 35 extra pounds on my body (I am 5'4"). It just seams unnatural. We should look at a median of too skinny and the average, which is most likely a much healthier weight for people (I do mean women in particular).
I run a forum for people suffering/recovering from an eating disorder. The site is pro-recovery. If you would like the URL, feel free to message me :)
okay I don't understand why everyone WANTS to be a size zero like it would be nice but if you wern't born like tiny then your not ment to be. just eat healthy and exersize thats all you have to do dont care about what your friends say but listen to your family and trust me if you eat healthy and exersize you will have a healthy body. I look at models and feel bad about myself because I DONT LOOK LIKE THEM the media "expects" that everyone looks like them and make people who dont feel like crap
I like this video very good points! My sister is super skinny and just started modeling. She doesn't understand why so many girls want to look like models or be super thing because she hates it. I think that the fact that VERY few people are naturally skinny needs to be stressed and that the point is to just live a healthy lifestyle and play up what is naturally beautiful about yourself.
Did YOU know that how the media shows women are not how guys like them? Fashion nazy boys are offen homosexual, the thinner and more guy looking the girl are the prettier she becomes to him when she is modelling hes clothes!
I am a man, and i know all my friends AND coworkers does NOT want a supermodel, they want someone who has a little fat on her legs, and we actually like it when they have that cute stomach. In men's magazines the woman are never looking like they are in clothing magazines. In mens magazines they have what some woman might even call chubby but real men call extremly hot. Know this, noone gives a flaming fuck if a girl has 2 extra pounds. Seeing it through clothes is as hot as seeing a nipple!
Marilyn Monroe may have been a size 14 in her time, but if you take her Playboy measurements (bust: 36" waist: 24" hips: 34") and compare them to the Target sizing guide you will find that she is at most a size 8 in today's sizing (size 8 at Target is 36.5"/29.5"/39").
Also Anna Nicole Smith was bigger then Marilyn. Her measurements were 36"/26"/38". Again at most a size 8.
Now I'm not saying Marilyn was anorexic model skinny because she wasn't, she was 5'5" and weighed 118 lbs when she did Playboy. But she wasn't as big as a lot of people say she was. For comparison Carmen Electra 5'2.5" 115 lbs pretty much in the same height to weight range as Marilyn.
But some of those models do look pretty :/

TBH, it doesn't matter about how much you weigh. It does matter what type of food you eat and how much you exercise.
Weight really plays no role.
