problem is, that americans can only think in cars and wheels. an intelligent probe would be about 4 millimeters in diameter. a million of those could analyse the entire planet in a few years, just by being carried around by the winds on mars. the rover attempt is typical for the notorious lack of innovative ideas. the rover is too complex, too complicated and much too heavy.
