WAGA had pre-empted a number of CBS shows over the years, including the daytime game show block of Family Feud and Card Sharks in the late 80's as well as the Pat Sajak Show in 1989-90. Even given WAGA's long-standing relationship with CBS, I was not surprised when they switched to Fox.
That September, WAGA started piecemeal pre-emptions of CBS shows. "The Price Is Right" moved to channel 69/WVEU (it would move to channel 46 after that station became the new Atlanta CBS station) and WAGA started bumping the "this is CBS" tag at the end of shows.
@applesauce2100 Yep, happened when CBS took the AFC broadcasting rights from NBC. NBC was without the NFL longer, as they did not get it back until 2006 when Sunday Night Football moved there from ESPN.
@deangelomywayentfan True. And and more than a year before that, KDFW in Dallas and KTBC in Austin both switched from CBS to Fox on July 1, Canada Day 1995.
Is THIS a bad explanation at the outset! "Young people watch Fox programming..." Then it gets better and explains what Fox and New World get out of getting in bed with each other.
WAGA televises MADtv............. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Couldn't they just say that this was about football and keeping the Falcons on channel 5? That's what it was really all about.

So they're basically telling their viewers "sorry, you're too old for us!" Classy.

The reason why the New World stations went from CBS to Fox? Three letters: N-F-L. CBS lost the rights to the NFC games to Fox in 1993.

@kstarpictures That right! However CBS got the right back in 1998

@raymieX yeah, they never actually explained the real reason WHY WAGA (and its sisters) were switching to Fox.

anchor Brenda Wood now anchors on NBC affiliate WXIA-TV 11 ALIVE since 1997 3 years after WAGA left CBS for FOX.
