What an incredibly bittersweet ending. You save the world by being the one to pull the needle instead of the brother whos soul was locked away, and you're rewarded with the world falling apart in an apocalypse of natural disasters and fire to be re-created.

Their mother tells Claus to come to her, so he shoots the lightning attack at Lucas, knowing it would bounce back and hit him (as he had already shot Lucas before, at the start of their battle). Lucas just happened to have the Franklin badge, so it reflected back at Claus, killing him.

for no reason at all I always feel like muting the sound during the "Awakening of the Dragon" and playing the Oath to Order (from Majora's Mask) in my media player.
When Shigesato Itoi was asked about possibilities of making Mother 4 he said "no", and that mother 3 was hard enough for him to develop. The same goes for Mother 2 being in production for about 5 years. But all the games received critical acclaim, so I wonder why is it so difficult for them to get a big funding budget and enough man power to create a full fledged sequel on a real (not handled) console?
I watch this video and think....theres too much violence in our World! And the day comes when the Earth will be destroyed from the cause of Humans! Luca's Mother & Brother die, the world is corrupt, Lucas suffers from enough battling and search for the needles....and yet his World is destroyed! Unlike Mother 1 & 2, where no one died....Mother 3 is different and like what we may experience in our lives....pain, misery, death, violence and destructions T.T

@Dragoon70dmg Unlike most RPG's this has a very complex storyline and it's very emotional. Even if there are better Rpg's, I still stick to this one ecause of the story.

Your brother hits himself (He knew about the franklin badge) with a massive bolt to save ou from him. Not to mention you learn that the world ended a long tim ago and that the nowhere islands was a place where people on the white ship came to forget about their past lives and they created fake stories to make themselves believe that they were on the islands forever.

Besides just because it show's all the character's talking, it never tells us where the are. They could just as easily be in the newly created world or even in the afterlife!

After the game is though this part, and The End shows up, you can walk around and the people will congradulate you (I know I misspelt that) and talk about how they all lived. If you really wanna see, look for the ROM and the English Patch for it.
The real ending doesn't even provide us reassurance that the people are alive. No, for all we know, they could be in the afterworld, although in Heaven.

I actually think it would have been a more emotional and better ending if the world was destroyed. That was the answer to everybodies problems anyways...the Island was so screwed up because of people, and if it was just totally destroyed and nobody lived, it would make more sense, and (even though I want more of it) people might be okay with that ending the Mother series because there's just nothing left. No life. No giygas or Pokey, no nothing.

Just finished the game. Pretty good. Not as good as Mother 2/Earthbound but it had timed hits and the story was much more emotional. It was a little easy and short. Was there any need for money? And half of the PSI never really got used. Learned PK Ground towards the end and it was useless. Once I learned PK Thunder and Starstorm, there was no need for Ice anymore. Not to mention PK Fire. Can't remember last time i used that. There are other flaws but overall, it was damn good for a VBA game.

I just beat the game myself.. and i had to make sure i was seeing the right ending. I just played like 24 hours of game time to see myself blow up the world, what i was trying to save. WORST ENDING EVAH
It doesn't need to make sense It's Mother 3! If they miraculously survived that calamity, take their word for it. "Thanks Lucas now I can sleep peacefully since the world is sav- FUUUUU-" (falls into a fault while wandering in darkness)
My theory: The Dark Dragon was supposed to save the island. But the Dragon realized that the only way to save the island and the people was to destroy it because it was so screwed up. Then, he created a new island.
Lucas got to have his wish granted by the Dragon, and he wished that all the greed and corruption in the world was gone. The only way to do that was to destroy everything and start anew.
For those of you saying the ending sucks, this isnt the full ending. When it says "End?", you are able to walk around and...well, I will not spoil it but play it and you'll see ^^

I didn't like the ending. Even with the whole walking around in the darkness, I wasn't satisfied. You can't just show the player 4 minutes of exploding and sad music, only to have someone say "Oh hi, your ___player name___? Yea were all alive =D" NO! That didn't cut it for me! In the description it said it was the beginning of mother 4. I don't remember a mother 4 planned to be made! So is mother 4 already out or is planned?
It doesn't end at "End?". Once you reach that point, you have to walk to the right [In the dark] until you hit dialogue. Then you keep walking around and talking to random people in the dark until they show you the real credits.
That was a horrible ending, Hinawa is dead, there's no backtracking for things like the Battle Memory, Claus is dead, Tazmily is FIN, and Nowhere Island is kaput. And where's this dragon. The overall mood of the plot and the conclusion is both sad and disappointing..........

PK Ground is an overpowered move when used on bosses, so they give you it later. Mother 3 is as long as, if not longer than Earthbound.

My theory: I think everyone on the Nowhere Islands survived because of the Egg of Light that Duster was carrying with him during the whole game.The item description said:''Its power could destroy or create an entire world.''So probably the Egg of Light was ''activated'' when the Dark Dragon woke up,thus saving everyone.Including you.

I just beat the game myself.. and i had to make sure i was seeing the right ending. I just played like 24 hours of game time to see myself blow up the world, what i was trying to save. WORST ENDING EVAH

My theory: The Dark Dragon was supposed to save the island. But the Dragon realized that the only way to save the island and the people was to destroy it because it was so screwed up. Then, he created a new island.

I didn't like the ending. Even with the whole walking around in the darkness, I wasn't satisfied. You can't just show the player 4 minutes of exploding and sad music, only to have someone say "Oh hi, your ___player name___? Yea were all alive =D" NO! That didn't cut it for me! They should've at least showed lucas and his close friend with the dragon or something to SHOW that they were alive! Hell I didn't even know who I was talking to in the dark--ugh >=[

It doesn't end at "End?". Once you reach that point, you have to walk to the right [In the dark] until you hit dialogue. Then you keep walking around and talking to random people in the dark until they show you the real credits.

That was a horrible ending, Hinawa is dead, there's no backtracking for things like the Battle Memory, Claus is dead, Tazmily is FIN, and Nowhere Island is kaput. And where's this dragon. The overall mood of the plot and the conclusion is both sad and disappointing..........
