Nobody wants it? Is this what you truly believe? Well, buddy, you are dead wrong. How can you possibly say that? I want it. My wife wants it. My parents also want it. Sure, you yourself may not want it. That's your right to believe what you want. But just don't lie! Don't you dare sit there so god damned smug and assume you can say what it is that I want. And assume that if I want something that you do not, that you have the right to make your decision for me. So, don't say nobody wants it.
What we need is a single transactor system--an agency that stands between providers, patients, and insurers to enforce standards and create the infrastructure necessary to discover and deploy more preventative medicine. Insurers can be stopped from cherry picking and have to compete on standardized coverage. Poor providers would show up fast and avoid a great deal of legal issues. The database of records would allow faster discovery of preventative measures. It sets a better course.
If the For Profit Private Health Insurance Industry didn't have so much fraud, corruption, greed, and weren't in the business of price gouging, ripping off, and short changing people. We probably wouldn't have this heated debate about health care reform.
Dear Democratic Friends! Please write your President Obama and demand that the "public option" plan is the ONLY plan we will accept. Do NOT believe the scare tactics the GOP are spouting! Private insurance companies have had plenty of time to lower costs and all they have done is compete with each other to raise prices while people are DYING! We elected President Obama and we must hold him to the fire on this issue! Our majority depends on it! God Bless & Have A Great Day!
If you saw SICKO, then you realise that government-paid doctors in the U.K. make a good buck for their services. And they don't have to worry about getting paid by their patients. If you become a doctor in order to make more than 100k a year, then maybe you should do something else.
"If you become a doctor in order to make more than 100k a year, then maybe you should do something else."
You are 110% correct. This underscores what USA has become...A bottom line country.
But, health care should not be decided by the criminals in Washington. It should be decided at the state level, forcing people too look and participate in their local government/community.
The "criminals in Washington," really? Hey get a clue. Those "criminals" you refer to just did not drop out of the sky from a UFO. OK? They were sent there by the people. Dumb, incredibly stupid, fantastic, brillient or whatever someone else may call them, they were nevertheless sent there by us, the people. Never forget this. Calling all our representatives criminals, and calling our president a tyrant, is nothing by treason! Nothing more.
If you are a conservative, then providing for the health of America appeals to your patriotism and morals, if you are a liberal, then restricting influence and waste of the privatized healthcare appeals, if you are socialist you approve because it improves the workforce. Only corporatists could be against it and corporatism=fascism, a black hole where we talk about it and still screw the people.
As an independent thinker, you can chose a solution for each problem as it presents itself. In history I have admired democratic solutions, and so I pointed out how people with different points of view can come to an agreement. My wish is that people will awaken to the classic 'preserve the majority consensus, but dictate to the majority' propaganda technique that has failed, and question more than just healthcare because (I am also American) it will not change until we act in solidarity
I didn't read the title carefully and watched it for about 5 minutes before I realized that it wasn't"Car insurance companies grant health care for all", but rather "Can insurance companies..."Anyway the Canadaian health care system is great and anyone who says it is inferior to the American one simply doesn't know what they're talking about.
Being from Canada I have to say that this whole "waiting lists" thing is overblown.
Its been a deliberate act of federal govs in the past 2 decades to try to dismantle public healthcare by withholding proper funding levels and propaganda similar to anti soviet crap.
We in canada are cursed with a small segment of rich people who want a private market to exploit and benefit from.
I don't understand why we need to use the Medicare model as the most efficient method in which we should dole out medical care when it is currently on the verge of bankruptcy. If the French model is currently the best and most cost effective method of giving out health care in the world why don't we use that model? Perhaps there's a profit agenda behind this California Nurses Asso. idea? It needs to be further investigated.
Actually the Taiwan Healthcare system is considered the best. They somehow have managed to take the best of all solutions and made it the best in the world. No waiting and everyone gets care.

What a bunch of crap. Burger is a socialist. The last thing I want to see is another failed gov program. This one preys on health. All you have to give up is your health privacy in exchange for a gov subsidy. This is just another lose lose situation. No matter how you slice the pie, the only winner is the gov.
The Law of Supply and Demand is predicated on the notion that the consumer can CHOOSE to NOT make a purchase, and seek out a lower price. That is the root argument for competition: consumers have choice, in that they can choose not to purchase. Healthcare doesn't work that way. Everyone needs healthcare. By choosing not to purchase (or not being able to), the consumer's life is threatened. Supply and demand is simply not applicable to the reality of the market.
One of the issues that has recently come to my attention is that infection rates in hospitals in the US are extremely high compared to social healthcare countries.
This is because insurance companies do NOT pay for testing so it doesn't get done.
It affects *everyone* when staph, TB, hepatitis and other infections are released into the general public, particularly when some of those people do not get treated because they don't have access to proper healthcare.
If you purchase insurance the doctor you are allowed to see has signed a disclosure that he will not suggest you need any test or treatment that the insurance company does not pay for. That is how they get on the list. You can decide how much you are willing to pay for that kind of coverage.
Instead of arrogance, greed and ignorance, American citizens need to stop being conned by the HMO's big profit scams, oppression by the medical system charging outrageous sums, slick hospital media and professional insurance lobbying.
HMO is costing MORE per person than any social health plan in the world.
Study all the different systems and make an informed decision as to what is in the best interests of the average American.
I will never understand why the U.S. doesn't adopt a plan for health care such as Canada has. It is very simple.... any large company or corporation contributes a percentage of their payroll to health care. There is enough money to provide every man/woman and child for pretty much any care required. There are a few exceptions, such as one physical per year and cosmetic procedures are not covered....
These big corporations have been given so many tax breaks they should be
These corporations have been given so many tax breaks, they can afford to do this. Once you are in this country for 3 months, you can apply for health care coverage at no cost to the individual. No one seems to be going broke and in the long term, it makes for an overall healthier society. I guess the losers are the doctors than don't receive hundredes of thousands of $'s for surgeries that no doubt really aren't necessary if they took a more preventative measure.
Charges for medical services are ridiculously out of proportion to anything else in our society. For anything to work there has to be some sort of mechanism to bring a reality to the pricing structure.

She does NOT understand how expensive that would be and the effect it would have on the quality of our medical service. It is essentially a socialist medicare system.
Socialism kicks ass. The countries that have universal health care spend far less than we do on health services, and have a higher standard of living than America.
"Socialism" is a dirty word here...unfortunately...In spite of our having a socialized police and fire force...Americans have trouble with this word....
because it has been demonized by Republicans and Big Biz boys club. THEY want ALL our money... They have zero interest about the actual well being of the public. We are just the cash cow for them .
