i have listened to this song today for the first time, it was on the real steel movie. a pretty smooth voice and calming song as well as lyrics of it. thx uploader here.
@Raen151 wait, was this really in Stargate Universe? I heard this on Real Steel and thought wow, why haven't I heard this song before. But then I thought hey, this sounds like something they played when they would watch out the back of the ship in a warp on Stargate Universe. so thats awesome if it is lol. It's a good song.
@72seeker72 Yeah, your right.... never thought about it, all Alexi Murdoch is missing is a way more intricate guitar part and little more of a northern English accent.
Glad to know someone who knows about Nick Drake, i'm named after him.
I remember seeing Alexi play in Bryn Mawr, PA in 2003. There were like 30 people there. My girlfriend and I went back the next night to see him again and I took a video camera. After the show a few people hung out and he sat on the stage barefoot and played another set. I mentioned to him that my niece, Katerina, was just born that day. He pulled me to a corner, told me to record, and sang "Shine" and said "This is for you, Katerina, on your birthday." I'm a grown man who was brought to tears.
Don't care where he took it from but I will say he is incredible! It would have been awesome to see him and Townes Van Zandt work a song together...Townes is gone from the beautiful world of music all to soon...Alexi will be around a long time
@celtanus In many interviews with Alexi, he stated he had no knowledge of who Nick Drake was and that he found it odd that he kept getting compared to him. He checked out some of Nick's songs and realized that they did sound similar.
The video, the music, thanks for making such effort on the video and upload. Really appreciate it. I was listening this when the sun sets, made me felt like falling in love and just sit on my chair, watching the sun rise with my love one beside me.
Away We Go was what got me anywhere.... not Real Steel. Away We go was way before Reel Steel and... The whole soundtrack is dominated by him. Like...comment... do whatever, I just want to know who shares this addiction for Alexi-epicness!
If it werent for Real Steel I wouldnt have known about this song. And because of that movie I am going to pay for the song giving Alexi Murdoch money. Why do people bitch and moan about songs being used in movies or TV? That means more exposure for the artist. ITS A GOOD THING
@natedoggcata the artists have to sign for their songs to be in movies. People cant just use their songs without permission so he obviously doesnt mind that its in there, so why should any one else.
@natedoggcata seriously! there are so many AMAZING songs that i didn't know about, and would've never known about had they not been put into Real Steel. Especially since i don't listen to the radio on a regular., so that goes for most of the movies i've seen.
@natedoggcata They like complaining, it's how this generation is now-a-days, but not only they get exposure, they also get paid to use their songs, some people are just pissed cause they can't get a life or money for that matter...
What is it with people, who gives a shit if you heard the song before anyone else? At the end of the day, you should all be thankful everyone gets a chance to be exposed to something as genuine as this, and stop acting like elitist hipster assholes.
Real Steal was a actually a good movie. It surprised me. On the cover it looks like another braindead action movie, but it's just not that. It's action packed, but different.
Thumbs up if you have good taste in music AND also knew that the "pointless" action movie that it was recently in was (loosely) based on a fantastic short story (and Twilight Zone episode) by Richard Matheson.
Seriously, who the fuck cares whether you picked up this tune in a movie or not? Just shut the fuck up and listen to the damned song for crying out loud.
@DottyLuv4Life awwww only 3 people... guess it takes a 'pointless action movie' for people to find out about this song. P.S. most movies are pointless, at least Real Steel was entertaining!!!
@P4pJokerBits Well for one, it really is pathetic that in order for people to actually find great music, they just watch some pointless movie. I've seen Real Steel, yeah it's a "decent" action film, however one of the greats... not even close. The music in a film happens to be part of what MAKES a film great, yet people don't seem to understand how powerful a great beat or sound during a film is these days. Sure Real Steel is "entertaining", more powerful than this song though? Not even close.
@DottyLuv4Life real steel brought me here. i listen more to the grunge genre. if not for real steel i would not have known this song which is really good. pathetic u say for the way people to find great music. how i a grunge person would know this kind of music? i didnt even know the guys name. i think i know good music when i hear one. so even though i heard this in real steel, its not pathetic that i found a very good song in a pointless movie.
@clong2xabian There are ways to look up great music. If you seek to find greatness in music then, you will find it. Though there are some us that don't need a "silly" pointless action movie to do just that. Maybe you should be more open to other genres, then you wouldn't need movies to show you greatness in all the kinds of music out there.
@DottyLuv4Life Are you high or something? It doesn't matter where you first hear a song whether it be in a shop, browsing youtube or just by watching a film. How is it 'pathetic' that I discovered this song by doing what I enjoy doing most?.. and what's your argument about this film not being one of the greats or more powerful than the song? I never said it was... Everything you wrote seems to be a very biased invalid argument. Just out of interest where did you first hear it?
@P4pJokerBits I don't smoke so therefore no I am not high, however maybe you are? All I've been saying is the music is greater than the stupid c-grade film. It's not biased, however everything I've stated is still a simple valid opinion. I heard through friends forming sign language, they or more specifically one of them, she introduced me to this great song. I'm very thankful for that.
@DottyLuv4Life yeh but you just kinda started saying the song is better when no one was saying it wasn't. However this song is definetly not better than the film. The film includes this song but then goes on to give another 2 hours of entertainment. Also C grade??,,, you really don't watch many films do you? You mentioned sign language, where you recommended this song by a deaf person??? If so then i think my way of discovering new music is slightly better than yours.
@P4pJokerBits I have every right to just state my opinion lol. That is exactly what I was doing. I strongly disagree, this piece this music, is much better than that movie. Music is an HUGE part of a film. Music is what reminds you of parts in a film, music is what holds scenes together, and helps to MAKE that film great. I would know, I've watched plenty of movies my whole life, and been apart of the makings of some. Oh and that girl is NOT deaf. You don't have to be deaf to know sign language.
@DottyLuv4Life then why mention the sign language at all, thats just irrelevant information. Your missing the point anyway, its not like I actually watched the film because I was trying to find new music, I watched it coz i wanted to watch the film and it just happened to have this song in it which i like. it has nothing to do with the quality of the film, or the flow of a film, or how music holds a film together. TBH I'm not even sure if you know what the hell youre talking about
@P4pJokerBits I mentioned it because it HAD to do with the moment in which I found the song. So it had everything to do with the point I was making lol. Plus it's not me who is missing the point that would be you... "you are" as in "you're" missing the point not I. If you knew anything about films at all, then you would know how hugely the film is impacted by its music, the lyrics, and all the sounds that are put into it. However it is quite clear you do not. So your argument is pointless.
@DottyLuv4Life Brilliant, so my experiences of watching films and enjoying them are nothing in comparison to the events that take place in your life. If you just take your head out of your arse for 1 second you'd probably realise that not everyone is like you and therefore what you are saying might just be considered to be absolute shit. You've actually spoken so much crap I don't even know what your point is anymore. PS I know plenty about films, very likely more than you
@P4pJokerBits That's very unlikely. Lol you kid are the one who felt the need to randomly turn my mere opinion/comment/say-so on this video and turn it into a completely foolish argument. I actually do know what I'm talking about, and instead of just shutting up, or better yet NOT being an ass, and just let some random person on the internet comment on a favorite music piece of music, you felt the need to waste not just your time, but mine as well. Just listen to the music and shut up.
@DottyLuv4Life yeh of course it's unlikely but that's because you're better than everyone else right? Okay just tell me what is so pathetic about discovering this music by watching a film, what is it that makes you think I don't know very much about films and what makes you think that you are right when this is a very opinionating argument on your part???
@P4pJokerBits So actully music has a lot to do with the movie its one of the first things they teach you in film school. The music has to go perfectly with the moment or else it could ruin the entire mood of the scene. You cant just have a classical piece of music during an intense action scene that would just kill it
@mosheo123 yeh i know how important music is but i'm talking about how i discovered the song. Apparently I'm pathetic because i first heard it whilst watching a film. Anyway the song fit the film perfectly...
@P4pJokerBits All I was mainly getting at was how sad it is these days that most kids are finding great music through glee, or pointless action movies, or things that really aren't that special in itself at all. Stop taking my comment so personal, when it was a completely general, almost vague statement lol. Get over it. There's nothing more to be said on this topic.
@DottyLuv4Life Yeh and what I'm getting at is that to me this film wasn't pointless and I found it entertaining. I watch a hell of a lot of films and therefore films form a big part of my life so yeh I do take it personally when someone basically states that the way that I live my life is pointless... I wouldn't have wanted to discover this music any other way!!! oh yeh and I'm not a kid, should I assume you are and this is why you have a very limited way of thinking?
@P4pJokerBits Pointless, can be entertaining for sure. It's still pointless, it was a story that's been told, and told, and retold every way possible. I'm not saying anything about your life, lol you're taking this way to personal. Oh and excuse me for knowing enough to live my life, instead of just watching a fake one. This is seriously getting old. Lol get over it, my opinion differs to yours, it's not going to change. So like I've said repeatedly, just END it.
@DottyLuv4Life yeh yeh ok, well I would feel bad if I left this without telling you that you are the most arrogant little fucking cunt I have ever had the displeasure of talking to and for your information I have an injury that prevents me from getting out a lot. You go and live your pretentious little fucking life you little twat. I would rather live a 'fake life' if it means i get to avoid simple minded people like yourself. Seriously people like you just plain fucking suck!!!
@P4pJokerBits Arrogant? Really? Lol go read the comments you've sent, and how you started this whole stupid thing. Also wasting both our valuable time in the process. Learn how to get over yourself, and stop taking every precious comment spoken so personally. It's a damn youtube video for God's sake.
@DottyLuv4Life Well actually you started this and you are arrogant as you believe that your experiences are better than mine. Now if you'll excuse me you pathetic little waste of space, I have more entertaining things to do... might watch Real Steel actually
@P4pJokerBits Nope. Your precious little personal retort did. Thanks for wasting my time and yours though, with your insignificant responses lol, once again. Buh-bye.
I really want to see the faces of these dislikers

@DottyLuv4Life real steel brought me here. i listen more to the grunge genre. if not for real steel i would not have known this song which is really good. pathetic u say for the way people to find great music. how i a grunge person would know this kind of music? i didnt even know the guys name. i think i know good music when i hear one. so even though i heard this in real steel, its not pathetic that i found a very good song in a pointless movie.

P4pJokerBits 1 month ago
@P4pJokerBits I don't smoke so therefore no I am not high, however maybe you are? All I've been saying is the music is greater than the stupid c-grade film. It's not biased, however everything I've stated is still a simple valid opinion. I heard through friends forming sign language, they or more specifically one of them, she introduced me to this great song. I'm very thankful for that.
DottyLuv4Life 1 month ago
@DottyLuv4Life yeh but you just kinda started saying the song is better when no one was saying it wasn't. However this song is definetly not better than the film. The film includes this song but then goes on to give another 2 hours of entertainment. Also C grade??,,, you really don't watch many films do you? You mentioned sign language, where you recommended this song by a deaf person??? If so then i think my way of discovering new music is slightly better than yours.
P4pJokerBits 1 month ago
@P4pJokerBits I have every right to just state my opinion lol. That is exactly what I was doing. I strongly disagree, this piece this music, is much better than that movie. Music is an HUGE part of a film. Music is what reminds you of parts in a film, music is what holds scenes together, and helps to MAKE that film great. I would know, I've watched plenty of movies my whole life, and been apart of the makings of some. Oh and that girl is NOT deaf. You don't have to be deaf to know sign language.
DottyLuv4Life 1 month ago
@DottyLuv4Life then why mention the sign language at all, thats just irrelevant information. Your missing the point anyway, its not like I actually watched the film because I was trying to find new music, I watched it coz i wanted to watch the film and it just happened to have this song in it which i like. it has nothing to do with the quality of the film, or the flow of a film, or how music holds a film together. TBH I'm not even sure if you know what the hell youre talking about
P4pJokerBits 1 month ago

PS I know plenty about films, very likely more than you
P4pJokerBits 1 month ago
@P4pJokerBits That's very unlikely. Lol you kid are the one who felt the need to randomly turn my mere opinion/comment/say-so on this video and turn it into a completely foolish argument. I actually do know what I'm talking about, and instead of just shutting up, or better yet NOT being an ass, and just let some random person on the internet comment on a favorite music piece of music, you felt the need to waste not just your time, but mine as well. Just listen to the music and shut up.
DottyLuv4Life 1 month ago
@DottyLuv4Life yeh of course it's unlikely but that's because you're better than everyone else right? Okay just tell me what is so pathetic about discovering this music by watching a film, what is it that makes you think I don't know very much about films and what makes you think that you are right when this is a very opinionating argument on your part???
P4pJokerBits 1 month ago
@P4pJokerBits So actully music has a lot to do with the movie its one of the first things they teach you in film school. The music has to go perfectly with the moment or else it could ruin the entire mood of the scene. You cant just have a classical piece of music during an intense action scene that would just kill it
mosheo123 1 month ago
@mosheo123 Thank you! That's exactly what I'm saying, or trying to explain...
DottyLuv4Life 1 month ago
@mosheo123 yeh i know how important music is but i'm talking about how i discovered the song. Apparently I'm pathetic because i first heard it whilst watching a film. Anyway the song fit the film perfectly...

@P4pJokerBits All I was mainly getting at was how sad it is these days that most kids are finding great music through glee, or pointless action movies, or things that really aren't that special in itself at all. Stop taking my comment so personal, when it was a completely general, almost vague statement lol. Get over it. There's nothing more to be said on this topic.
DottyLuv4Life 1 month ago
@DottyLuv4Life Yeh and what I'm getting at is that to me this film wasn't pointless and I found it entertaining. I watch a hell of a lot of films and therefore films form a big part of my life so yeh I do take it personally when someone basically states that the way that I live my life is pointless... I wouldn't have wanted to discover this music any other way!!! oh yeh and I'm not a kid, should I assume you are and this is why you have a very limited way of thinking?
P4pJokerBits 1 month ago

P4pJokerBits 1 month ago
@P4pJokerBits Arrogant? Really? Lol go read the comments you've sent, and how you started this whole stupid thing. Also wasting both our valuable time in the process. Learn how to get over yourself, and stop taking every precious comment spoken so personally. It's a damn youtube video for God's sake.
DottyLuv4Life 1 month ago
@DottyLuv4Life Well actually you started this and you are arrogant as you believe that your experiences are better than mine. Now if you'll excuse me you pathetic little waste of space, I have more entertaining things to do... might watch Real Steel actually
P4pJokerBits 1 month ago
@P4pJokerBits Nope. Your precious little personal retort did. Thanks for wasting my time and yours though, with your insignificant responses lol, once again. Buh-bye.
