We don't have Muslim rioters in our streets, demanding for better jobs, and against discrimination like the majority of French do to them. The French are arrogant, and are no longer a world power- we are, we have the power, money, and influence. France is in the back pages of the history books.
No you have black and latinos gangs who are killing in the streets EVERY DAYS (ours "riots" were during 1 week!). You have teenagers who are doing massacres in theirs schools, you have serials killers on yours roads so come on...France has no lessons to receive from you. More and more people are lossing their houses and live in camping cars! your country is just like Brazil or South Africa, a violent unfair and inequal society.
Unequal and unfair - then why are there so many illegal immigrants here? Serial killers on our roads and streets? The US has more people incarcerated in prison than any other industrialized country in the world. Well France is no longer a world power to be reckoned with in world affairs- you have no military, no power, and no world wide influence anymore. Everyone thinks the French are a joke overhear. That's what socialism does to your country.
YOu're soo wrong! France really is a world-power. You should concider that france is a smaller country than USA. And talking about loosing power, USA it the best example of loosing power!
The public debt in USA is 10,024.7 billions $ and that means about 74% og GPD while in France it is 64%!
You kidding me- the French work 35 hours a week? Wow, they are really lazy over there. No wonder they are so poor compared to the USA. How in the world can you pump more money in your economy when you only work 35 hrs a week and are taxed to death? France needs to be more like the USA- scrap socialism altogether, cut taxes, have no government regulation, and less government.
Yes and a financial crisis and a collapsing currency. And most of French people shouln't be able to put their country on a map like their American counterparts. :D
are you kidding ? The french average quality of life is higher than in the States and talking about work, the french baccalaureate is much more demanding than the us whatever is called high school final diploma (which means they've got to work far more than the us teenagers)...

He's a fascist, nationalist promoting unnecessary economic reform that will mean people have to work harder to get less. And at the same time, he's adopted draconian immigration policies the likes of which I've never seen before (dna tests leading to deportations?!). On top of that he's a duplicitous meglomaniac, who cares little about his country's interests, and way too much about America's.
Youre an idiot I beleive that Sarkozy is very different than Bush. The great thing about Sarkozy is that he has common sense and is pro-american. Youre probaby a left-wing socialist who refuses to acknowledge the election.

Look, Sego is very lovely , but i hoping that after losing the elction, she should cry on TV.
Put Coluche and "the droite" is horrible is kind of funny, according to the fact that Colcuche was threaten by Mitterand and he was running for the presidency
as with each time Ségolène Royale was in difficulty, she answered "me I could it". What proves completely impossible since there are very rigorous French laws on certain subjects. I know, I'm French.
Very interesting debate format! As a very liberal American, even I think it's innaccurate to equate Sarkozy with Bush. He sounds more like the middle in the US ( Clinton dem or moderate republican). Royal sounds far left in US terms and her command and control approach to managing the govt would make France the "Sick man" of Europe. By voting for Sarkozy, the French people showed that they are disciplined enough to make hard reforms in their government.
The number of schooled handicapped children given by the UMP is contested by associations involved with helping handicapped people (I'm one myself, neurologically)
But why we believe in culture and national identity? Cause we search desperately the place we live in peacefully. We don't care about the death of others, if we find that place, we don't care about this tragedy. Anyway we are duped at some point in whole life. c'est la vie, mon vieux.
We don't live in the distinctive culture. We are rather the prisoner of social environment which is imposed by somebody-could be your parents, could be your teachers or your senior executives.
The reason why we are easily deceived by identity and tradition propaganda, cause it's extremely blur and unclear the nature that we live in. Life is full of complexity not that we want to be. So we desperately search the certainty the politicians take advantage of this including the intellectuals.
There's no such an influx. The number of the new immigrants is decreasing. But the problem is mediatizing and exageration of immigration to get the election. Anyway we're all sort of mixed blood. so-called culture is political propaganda.
I do not need to remind you that more than 80% of your national team is made up sons of those "lawless bastard" immigrants and without them you wouldn't have seen the light of Zidane and others, especially those plyers of color that mainly originate from former french colonies.I hope these facts serve to let ,you and others that have the same opinion as yours, know that maybe not all immigrants are bad after all.
Than maybe we do think alike ,and that clearly means that not all immigrants are lawless bastards as you call them.Just because some minority behaves in a (i must admit) ,shamefull manner such as the one demonstrated by the rioters, that doesn't mean all immigrants are represented by them.
Segolene has a big, big, beautiful heart. Her heart is in the right place, for the people of France. But she might be taken advantage of. She's too soft to be prez. Too motherly. You can't nurture a country.
She lost because her social polices were a joke. Socialism is dead, and it's been dead for along time. Socialism can't even be mentioned in the same breath with capitalism, it would be an insult. Anyone who still buys into this fairytale system deserves the unemployment, and sorry ass wages they end up getting as a result. Name one major world power that uses socialism.... that's what I thought.
Great action by Sarkozy. And to Yixian, he surely has no idea of politics. Neo-Liberalism which is what really stands for extreme right wing, heavily supports democracy. Your comment illustrates how, in modern politics, the Left has abandoned core values (human liberation) by merging with the far Right -- advocating burning France's National Assembly/Senate. The shift in modern politics comprises the isolationist Right and the Far Left. One the other side is Neo-cons and Classical Liberals.
You misunderstand, the very concept of democracy is undermined in modern politics being that the choice offered is between creating and destroying democracy.
Any shift towards the right is a move away from democracy, any shift towards the left is a move toward it. The very concept of democracy is a leftist one - the economic inequality Sarkozy is hoping to unload on France removes the credibility of french democracy itself.
Frivolous lallation. Democracy is not a Leftist concept but communism is. Democracy is a liberal concept. Sarkozy, if elected, will be done so BY THE VOTE OF THE FRENCH PEOPLE = liberalism, not communism.
So put simply, you disagree with sarkozy, so anything goes. I'm sorry to burst your bubble genius, but that's not democracy. Every time someone is elected, someone else is going to be angry. That doesn't mean you start burning the country down just because you voted for the other guy (or girl). Your idea of democracy is a little like a dictatorship, "if you don't believe what I believe, your an enemy of democracy!" ahh sweet stupidity;)
France! Reason prevails at least, coup de main! Where have you been? Let me speak free from regimen. France, your conflation with radical Islam has severely fucked you. Perhaps now we can all stand unite like liberal democracies should. Welcome to the fold comrades, brother, sisters, and friends!
Also, how can you support a candidate who is so horrible against immigrants and so poor on public policy. His social failures and his failures as public servant should sway one to vote otherwise, no matter the candidate.
non, je deteste par segolene mais vraiment... elle est plus manipulatrice que lui!!! Une vraie bonne soeur! sans blague, les conneries qu 'elle raconte, ca fait mal aux oreilles!!!
well, you don't know anything about france, i am french and i live in france and if the majority has voted for Sarkosy, there is a reason for that... so idiots, i don't think so... just realistic... noting more!
As Coluche once said, "it's not because a lot of them are wrong that they're right".
Americans voted Bush in 2000 and 2004, and see where that brought them ! Just because most of us voted for Sarkozy doesn't mean they voted for what was best for our country, it means they voted for what *they thought* was best for our country. And in my humble opinion, we made a mistake we'll be all lamenting about in several years, just like the Americans.

Yes, it was a draw until the key moment came when Royal went on an all out 'Joan of Arc' offensive against Sarkozy.
This might of worked but she overcooked it and started hurling out insults willy nilly.
Sarkozy waited and waited then struck after she overextended herself so-to-speak.
He kept his cool, the passion she showed might of won some voters, but the cool and reasonable manner Sarkozy defended himself won more.
So for me Sarkozy won the debate because of this.

I wouldn't expect anything less from Leftist anti-democracy forces -- advocating the destruction of democracy is NOT A PROTEST.

Reason prevails "AT LAST" -- my bad :)

France! Reason prevails at least, coup de main! Where have you been? Let me speak free from regimen. France, your conflation with radical Islam has severely fucked you. Perhaps now we can all stand unite like liberal democracies should. Welcome to the fold comrades, brother, sisters, and friends!

Yes, the subs suck, but it had to be done.
Also, how can you support a candidate who is so horrible against immigrants and so poor on public policy. His social failures and his failures as public servant should sway one to vote otherwise, no matter the candidate.

well, you don't know anything about france, i am french and i live in france and if the majority has voted for Sarkosy, there is a reason for that... so idiots, i don't think so... just realistic... noting more!
