@Jakeveilbrides just looked at his ezio drawing video and thats skill-miles away from this painting. lol. he's just a beginner so he does not see the fine differences which are important to tell which level of skill the artist has. (=little experience)
@Jakevielbrides and how do you think people will believe you if you can't even show your current artworks? You can write just everything on the internet. Use some logic and become more modest, because those who talk the most are usually those who do the least.
Are the shadows, hilights, and darker "inks" all on separate layers? What modes are they each in? Thats where my drawings get screwy--a bunch of layers in different modes can get counterproductive.
I liked the way you illustrated the female character. You didn't exaggerate her curves or anything. As a female gamer, I am not a fan of the weak, pathetic, stupid female, nor am I a fan of the anatomically impossible sex object female. Why does it seem to be so difficult to find a middle ground?
@Blackearedwolf It's so disrespectful. Hopefully if I go into the video game design business, I can make strong, deep characters, regardless of gender.
@Indigokitteh You make a good point but you have to remember not all different female characters are aimed for a female audience and it doesn't really matter whether you dislike that style it just means that they where aiming it at an audience that will enjoy seeing females portrayed like that same goes for male protagonists not everyone will like having a small overexcite able childish character or enjoy playing an the overly muscular swordsman.
Does it cover in the tutorial what kinds of brushes he uses? How would you get that effect of adding a "tan" feel to her appearance without making the whole thing ending up like a booblicious lobster?
@R3N3LL3sc late response but the reason is that most if not all concept art is used for video games or for movies with a fantasy elements, hence the subject matter being more fantasy vs real world subjects
@R3N3LL3sc no, sci-fi also includes a lot of machine like creatures as well ,transformers for example. In the end it's all really based on what audience your selling your design to. It wouldn't really make much sense to put a final fantasy like samurai in a game like dead space would it?
@DistortedV12 It's not so much "ease" as it is practice. He's probably done this thousands of times, so he knows what he's doing, in contrary to someone who is newer at it.
very good skills. no offense but the designs are more like a cliche. not much innovation imo. "sexy" "beautiful" "armor" "strong" and exposed skins; have seen too much of these. that flame-thrower guy reminds me of marine from starcraft;
BUT there is a reason these are such common character types, they appeal to the general male audience
The general male audience does usually want the same thing, if you even look at movies marketed to men there is always that same beautiful strong woman...
Usually if you want to get past that cliche the movie is marketed to women, like almost every chick flick the "ugly girl" wins
PRartguy, don't worry, my english is not good as well, and by the way, yes, I actually know how to use the brush dynamics. What I do must is use the circle hard brush, with 20-60% on the opacity jitter an 40% on the flow. The unique dynamic I use the most is the size with pen pressure. Thanks for the attention.
try to use hard brushes.... go to the brush menu and turn on the "other dynamics" (in this menu set the opacity jitter to pen pressure) thats all i think...you can also play around with other options and find the ones that you need
Check out Daarkens channel... he explains a little bit about that in some of his tutorials

I THINK he creates an adjusment-layer , puts its settings on overlay , paint different colors on top of the image , to see what fits.

thx a lot for your advice. I did the same but with the brush- and not the layer-settings. Worked well too... I'll try the way you explained asap :)

@riotforthepunx i actually think that he chooses colour instead of overlay, but overlay can also do the trick

uses layers and blending methods. once your shading is done, it is common to have 3-4 layers for each colour.

Very common with all of these kind of videos that they're sped up to some degree - usually 2x speed.
sketchseven 2 years ago
It is sped up. Awesome though he is, all of his vids are sped and he mentions this in other videos.
As an artist, speed is not the top priority. It is needed on a professional level but you don't want to be really fast at drawing crap.
Get your art awesome first! :)

Anyway, on the matter of if they used a time lasp or not.. In this case, no, it isn't sped up. That's not an extremely fast drawing rate, and the better you get at drawing, the more experience you have, the faster you will draw. For a master like Jason Chan, that's very believably a casual pace. It's a pretty common speed, actually.. They did do a couple skips, but mostly, it's real-time drawing.
