  • I own several real (old) synths that have VSTi counterparts and yes, you CAN hear the difference in most cases if you compare one solo lead of the VST to one solo lead of the real thing. But not many people release music consisting out of only solo instruments on old analogue gear.

As soon as you start mixing all these different VST emulations of real synths, the difference becomes less obvious. In a mix, a song made with good VST modules can come very close to the real thing.

  • Continued... To those that prefer VSTs, your ears were probably Made in China.

  • @fender1000100 Can I have some of your crack please? I hear it's nearly 100% pure.

For those that own have owned the original hardware, a VST will always represent ease of use (maybe some additional features that remove the character and the point of the original instrument), exclusively.

The most impressive emulation I've seen is the OP-X and even that has a horribly weird compressed mid-range.

Being a good musician and having good ears can be mutually exclusive. To those that like VSTs, yo

  • To get analog sounds, there only one thing to do : get an analog synth.

After 10 years using VSTi, I'm back to hardware analog synths (Tetra and more to come).

VSTi still have lack of depth and bass. If you want decent sound, you have to add lot of effects.

With my hardware synth, it sounds good even without any effect.

Maybe in the future, VSTi could compete with hardware digital synth at least... but analog ones are difficult to modelize, I don't see how they could do in the near future.

  • @Theotim92 Tried Uhe Diva?

  • Great VST, but not as a substitute for a Juno.

  • This sounds better than a real juno without the weight and expense very well done

  • monopoly soft synth is close to the original:> they will never be the same but

sometimes the trying gives you different sounds which are handy.

  • Nice track !

  • haha the frustration from hardware purists stays kinda funny

  • I'm sorry, but this plugin does not sound like a real Juno.

  • Every serious music maker should have at least one REAL analog synth. Don't clog up your computer with pap like this! I have a Juno 60 and it's alot more beefy than this horrible abomination - if you wanna sound like everyone else, keep buying those soft synths!

  • @TheDawnFader HAHAHAH SERIOUS !!!! you tell em!

  • why do you have to detune them for it to be a different osc?

  • i use it quite often and its very usefull

  • i tried download this for FL studio but no matter what I did (extracted the file etc) it wouldnt show up in FL. any ideas...

  • @gavinjamesaitken1 Put the dll file in the folder called vstplugins, and then go in fl studios channel menu and tell it to scan for new plugins.

  • Windogmassey: It doesn't really sound nearly as warm or beautiful as the original Junos, but you can probably get something that sounds somewhat similar. Again, they didn't get the oscillator mixing right so many sounds can't be made on this thing.

  • @blazingedgepro what oscillator mixing ?? The Juno has only one osc, so nothing to mix ;-)

  • @Keybern I'm speaking of the multiple waveforms, which are technically separate oscillators (though linked in pitch). When you add the pulse and sawtooth oscillators together, the real Juno is still perfectly in phase and becomes a lot louder. On the VSTi, the two oscillators are completely out of phase and get softer -- rather yucky sounding. You probably couldn't really get the Enya "Bodicea" sound out of it.

  • @Keybern one oscillator? hahahah

Oscillators in Juno 6 & 60- DCO: pulse, saw, and square

  • @mattlsp you're talking about the different waveforms. The Juno 6(0) still has only one DCO per voice. But I guess you can debate about it, see the comment of blazingedgepro.

  • @Keybern if they were just different wave forms why do you have seperate volume controls for each? you have 4 osc's here...

  • @noidddd nope, 1 DCO per voice. And there are 6 voices.

You can mix the different waveforms (pulse, square, saw) together to create 1 "complex" waveform, but you can't detune them, which is too big of a restriction to call it "multiple oscillators".

Detuning makes really a hell of a difference in sound synthesis.

  • @Keybern it looks like to me it has 1 DCO but 4 osc that can make that up...

  • @noidddd okay, let's turn to dummy-modus now: DCO = Digitally Controlled Oscillator.

The Juno has ONE. The waveshaper, that is part of the DCO and comes right after the master clock and the divider, gives you the ability to bring in some sub oscillation, some sawtooth and PWM, but these all have the same source: the square-shaped oscillation produced by the master clock and divider.

Now, that setup is brilliant in its simplicity but it doesn't compare to multiple OSC's !

  • @Keybern nice

  • Cool demo! Thanks for posting this. I've been trying to get my Juno 60 hooked into my MIDI system on a budget. This takes care of the problem. And I've found that, used right, it's got Plenty of punch and bite. Guess I should post my own demo.

Thanks again for the lead to a great instrument.

  • Nice video. Anyone got any idea how i can get some Enya sounds out of this? thanks

  • How to setup it???? i downloaded the rar but only one .DLL file in it..

  • @tothlaszlo4 You need to put the .dll file into your VST plugin folder and start your VST host program like FLStudio, Ableton, Reaper, etc. Then open this VST instrument in the host.

  • that was fun!

  • I have the Juno-106 and I have to say that the most impressive part of this synth is the CHORUS, they nailed that EXACTLY. Otherwise, it's "pretty good". Doesn't have the "bite" or the "punch" of the analog original. They didn't emulate some things right (mixing pulse and saw waves together gives bizarre, out-of-phase results). Still, for free, it's worth a download. Check out their Chorus-60 plugin which lets you add the Juno chorus onto any audio track! That's the best part!

  • Yes, it's really great vst.

  • I own a Roland JX-8P, really cool sounds as I finally got it after dreaming about for 25 years. I could not afford it back then and I also got it, but I declined due to no credit.

  • I don't EVEN understand how people can say that a VST can come close to a real Juno, prophet, moog Hammond B3, etc. A true discrimanating ear can ALWAYS here a notable differance. Maybe this just comes with 30-40 years of work in the music industry.

  • @itwasallgoodinthe70s - The VSTs that are closest to what they claim to emulate (though far from perfect) are the pricey ones. Most of the free or ultra-cheap VSTs are nowhere near what they claim, except having the same parameters.

  • @xnonsuchx

I'll make an exception in that the Xils 3LE is VERY cheap yet an extremely great emulation of a VCS3 synth.

You're right though, most are not proper emulations.

  • good creation

  • This is an emulation of the JUNO, so it might not sound exactly as the hardware, but since it is freeware, whats the damage?

  • that one "waterfall" sound sounds just like the one in the beginning of pink floyd's wish you were here album

    thanks for the demo

  • Nice...

...but is there a link to it?

  • never mind...

  • this vid doesnt show how good this vsti is..

  • i like this sound

  • I have a juno-6 and it sounds nothing like even one of those sounds.

  • i assume there is no vsti that sounds like a real juno..

  • bryceHuhwhat: you obviously didn't use it for more than 5 mins then because I have a juno 6 and the plugin can get very close to the real thing. In fact I doubt most could tell them apart in the context of a mix. If you use the synth with their free Juno chorus plugin which is also very accurate then it is even closer. The real thing has a cleaner and brighter sound but get them together and its close. Very impressed but this demo doesn't really show it off properly.

  • @maccagrabme

I agree to that. I can get it close to 99% sounding like my Juno 60.

Its one of the best vst'is ever, and it's free!

  • @bryceHUHwhat I think it's supposed to emulate Juno 60 , not Juno 6.

I tried that website address it didn't work.

  • @AMOKIAN Juno 60 is just a juno 6 with patch memory....

  • @bryceHUHwhat looks like he's only using it (in this demo) for the noise osc...

  • @bryceHUHwhat Yup....I'd have to agree with you there. I have Juno 60 & an OB-8 & nothing beats the real deal!! Maybe there is a reason it's "free"...

  • @bryceHUHwhat I have this plugin and most of the sounds I use sound nothing like this either I use it alot more for pads and strings and stuff the Juno 60 is known for

  • can i play it thru fl studio 8

  • I bust my 106... So I invested in Cubase 5, I have no idea how it works yet but can you play this plugin through that? How do you do so?

  • Anything that can be labeled a VST can be used in Cubase. There are countless tutorials on how.

  • Cubase can use VST effects and VSTi instruments... thjis is a VSTi so yes, you can use it as a instrument on cubase. Cuabse is form steinberg and steinberg developed the VST technology so ...

  • @Weazelmania

Yes you can play it through C5

Download the plugin and follow the onscreen instructions. The file will be stored in your vst folder. From within Cubase open up your VST menue and you should see it listed in there. If you need more help....check out the Cubase 5 manual for VST instruments to get your bearing or sign into the Cubase forums @ steinberg.

    Cheers, DS

  • I have a real Juno-60 and I can't get that kick drum like on this video :-s

  • Really cool!

  • I made some nice pads with de U-NO 62, but i also have a alpha juno 2.

    Very nice Synth^^

  • so the drums are from it too, how did you sequence it?

  • If you want to listen to songs made only with the TAL U-NO-60 then do a search on 'Multipac' and listen to his 80's themed songs. Very impressive....

    Cheers

  • A nice plugin, surely not as phat and warm as the real Juno 60 (or 106), but compared to other VSTs it does sound special.

Oh and be sure to get U-NO-62 and not 60, recent 1.7 update has a better sound too.

  • What style would the sample song you just made here be? It sounds so minimalist and relaxing, good stuff.

  • download '16b - sounds from another room' if you like this you'll love it

    there's a rapidshare for it

  • deep house

  • @minsoocapo: but this sounds much more technoish than housish. are you sure?

  • @ses110 The pads(chords) are deep house. The 4/4 bassdrum is very housish, by the way.. techno is something else.

  • Comment removed

  • prefer hardware but i dont own an analog synth at the moment so im stuck with VSTi plugins

  • TAL does very good sounding plug in (Juno and SH101 tested, approved and played with). Moreover considering it is freeware and mac compatible, big respect ! Obvious i do not like plug ins 'cause i prefer using my hands rather the mouse, i confess I use TAL plugins. So big up !

  • any 1 got the link for the free download plz????

  • link is on the video, mate

  • amazing freeware. there is a nice depth of warmth to the bass sounds.

  • recon u could show how to make these sounds or got any presets?

  • this is a tight VST....

not for so much what I produce..(hip hop)

but still seems like a powerful an fun tool

  • I dunno, this is cool because it's free, but for me it doesn't sound anything like a real Juno 60. It sounds digital, not analog and warm. Has anyone else compared the two? What do you think?

  • OK, I take back my comment here, because I think I was being a little harsh. I've been using this lately - so it's not a living analog Juno - but it IS very close. They did the chorus and the filter very well. The only problem I am having is that this little vst almost pegs my CPU in Cubase. Almost none of the others do that. Couldn't the authors fix that.? Also - thank you for making this FREE Juno 60. I really appreciate your hard work.

  • I own both,software and hardware juno60

this plugin lacks the sound quality to match the real thing.hardware juno has brighter and more serious sound.software juno is a toy compared to the real thing.

  • This is an excellent VST plug-in.

10/10 for the people who created it ! ! !

  • wow, i love that sound! its very deep and "organic".. great stuff!

  • Bassline is amazing, i always end up goin back to it in nerly every track i make with my laptop, amazing sound for a free synth =].

    the u-no to

  • This is an excellent vst, completely free, and you can get some really good sounds from this. check out my videos for examples of songs I made with this free vst. a must have!

  • i neva got the chance to really use this it wuz good

  • Is this Free or a torrent cracked VST!?? This is an awesome VST! The people creating this program should be compensated!!

If its free to have and its not a torrent I will use it.. If I have to donate I will too!!

  • HAH! should have read the name on the top right before posting! The author is giving then for free! AWESOME!!!

I will donate krezmuzik.. AWSOME job

  • is it for free, hat it a virus or more viruses? please answer!

  • It's completely free, and they have more of this stuff. What do you mean by "viruses"?

  • he wants a virus emulation too LOL

  • very simple VST, but actually has a pretty amazing sound.

    definitely worth the download

  • this vsti is on point very good sounds

  • where download this synth?

  • Yes great plugin.

  • Very good vsti i have it :)
