amazing...ok i am definatly wanting to go to china now to teach english!! i have thought about it ever since i went to china this march! now i am back in englandi miss china alot!!
teaching there seems like something i WILL regret not ever doing, like these guys just said
Are you an experienced person in your ability to teach english as a foreign language? What is most asked by your pupils who's ability to speak english is some what low. How does one teach english when ones ability to speak the native local tongue is even lower than your pupils ability to speak english. Is there an inturpreter to help in the lesson, and if so, what's the point of an english teacher being there? Overall, I do believe we have a clusterfuck here.
This is a really common misconception about teaching abroad. You don't need to speak the local language (in this case Chinese) at all, as schools want an English-speaking atmosphere in class. In terms of getting your message across to them, you bring the real world into the classroom, so that means bringing in props, flashcards, pictures etc. Doing a TEFL course trains you as to how to communicate concepts effectively.
@itoiTEFL Thank you for your reply, and yes, this does clear it up. I would like to teach English to the Chinese children, as you can see by my video's that I have uploaded, I have been around China and the Philippines, so I am no stranger to China. 1 question. I have seen two day TEFL courses. What do you have to say about them. And one more thing. Being British why do I need to show a TEFL certificate when it is blindingly obvious that I can read and write English?
That's great you're interested in teaching in China. Two day TEFL courses are a good introduction to TEFL theory and give you a chance to do a bit of teaching practice.
While some employers will give you a job just on the fact you can speak English, teaching English and getting the most out of your students is a bit more tricky than just talking to them, which is where a TEFL course comes in. If you need more info give us a call on 0113 205 4610.
@itoiTEFL Thank you ever so much for the kind offer and the help you have given me through the replies on youtube. When I am ready, i'll give you a call. Once again, Thank you very much,
iam thinking about doing a tefl internship in china
1. is the generally more than one tefl teacher per school or are you by yourself
2. are there teaching assistants that will also help with the lessons
