American soldiers killed thousands of people after the war without being told to.

And many SS soldiers got drunk or shot themselves due to having to shoot civilians, that's another reason why the Nazi's decided to use gas chambers.

Most soldiers on all sides have to live through guilt from realizing that they have to kill other people, soldiers or not, it's just a human thing, the men who fought with the Waffen SS didn't go through as much as that guilt, that's why they're a more elite fighting force.
