The weight of the water separated the gutter from the roof, and when it rained again the water came all down behind the gutter itself. Making it damp with humidity. Solution: Make sure you put a spike-nail on the last rafter holding the gutter to it. Make sure your flashing comes down from under the roof into the gutter. THIS IS NOT A SOLAR PANNEL PROBLEM..Water didn't come from underneath. IT went overboard the gutter....Thank you

blah blah blah. I only see one spot damged. If the root of the porblem was one of the screws, How come you don't see a trail of water from the location if the screw itself? My only deduction is. If you look well, the place where you have the rotted wood is at the same spot where the gutter downspout is. I see the water marks on the gutter as well. Being a gutter and roofing installer in the state of oregon for many years. No nails on the last rafter to hold gutter to roof.

I ain't no expert, but the damage I saw in the picture looked more like termite damage than just water penetration. Are you sure there was no termite damage involved?

@ProfessorChartman You've got a good eye, no that is termite damage, but what usually happens is the roof starts to leak, then the wood gets wet... then it could remain wet for a long period of time. The moist wood is what usually attracts the termites, so you're absolutely right and I'm sorry I didn't mention that.
