The TV series "Maverick" did an episode called "Dutchman's Gold" with Roger Moore as Beau Maverick, featuring the same song in the intro and occasionally throughout the show, sounding like the same orchestration and background singers but with someone besides Brennan reading the text. It was a good episode filmed about the time this recording was released, I guess.
Great stuff! Reminds me of another ... "The Shifting, Whispering Sands" by Billy Vaughn with Ken Nordine. I grew up in the desert and these kind of songs and narrations touch me.
I remember this as a teen listening to the radio. As I recall, it was a pretty big hit back in'61 or '62. The music is lovely. Walter Brennan had a unique voice. Loved him as Grandpappy Amos on the Real McCoys.
Funny How You Can Live A Time & NOT APPRECIATE Some Significant Events. This was one -- I saw 20 Mule Team or what ever it was! And did not catch the importance of this song; that is until decades later, the song came back to me & "Haunted Me!" I tried to find it; but was it "Superstition Mountain," or some other name? (or TV Program?) Its a great song & perhaps reminds me of my young years being raised by a Grandfather from a birth of 1881 (his voice was much like the vocal of this song).
One of my all time narrative type of records from the age of rock and roll. Don't get any better than this one. By posting this tune, you certainly hit the DOT on the old bullseye. Good Post.

@larrynealwaxmuseum All right!! Cut my teeth listening to KOMA back in the mid-50s..A great old station..My former in-laws lived really close to the transmitter in Moore, Ok...played some good music!!
I used to live very close to this location, its really a wonderous place.
