this is real talent, when a band can take a highly modified /complex/brilliant song and bring it to its roots. drum machine. acoustic guitar. bass guitar. quiet voice. it doesn't take a computer to make high quality music.

As far as drum apps, there are several of them. I am by no means a percussionist, but some apps can be set up as a drum kit, or drum machine. The drum machine option allows me to give my drummer a general idea of what kind of beat I'm imagining the words to. I used to actually try to play it, and failed miserably, then I resorted to trying to beatbox it, then I failed and looked more stupid than before. Hope that was helpful. I saw IPS at Warped in Dallas. Amazing & they had a big turnout

Sorry I'm not with IPS but I do have that app, there are 2 synths that I'm aware of MiniSynth, and "the big brother" MegaSynth(recently released, for ~$5). MegaSynth has 3 oscillators, filters, amp fx, sequencer, a ton of presets, recording, and you can tilt the phone to manipulate pitch & cutoff. As you can tell I highly recommend the app, the downside is the spatial limitations, obviously you can't put a full keyboard on-screen. If you have an iPhone & a few bucks try it out.

sounds like he's got the low chorus... i'm not an expert, but considering he does the low right after that, he'd need to be able to jump octaves like a beast to do it that cleanly. not that he isn't a beast.. but it's hard to do with that much control
