  • Hating on 'standard' gym bench press is as bad as a bodybuilder hating on a powerlifting press. Maybe people's goals are to have a full ROM (within a safe limit on their shoulders) rather than just be super strong in the few inches of a powerlifting bench.

  • @AngloSaxonMMA Even though this video is completely about how to bench to your maximum limit he also states that by keeping the back flat and lowering in a straight line to the chest places a high stress on the shoulders. I doubt any strength coaches would disagree with that. The way around it is to use dumbells or to use a slight angle of incline or decline.

  • @AAAngus1 Well there are plenty of people who can lift heavy weight with a more traditional form without problems. Generally they're doing this for other reasons than getting their numbers up. All I was saying is he doesn't help the PL V BB war by saying BB are doing it wrong when people have different goals. Its like if I made a video and said "powerlifters think their bench is so perfect, but if they tried to bench press me in a jiu jitsu match they'd get armbar'd like a bitch."

It wasn't a problem of ur triceps or shoulders....it was only the form. This form has become a role modelling that i show to everyone when they need to know more about bench

  • @chonyfire2011 idk about all federations, but I know that in the IPF (in which I'm competing) the butt has to be on the bench. I think most federations say the butt has to be on the bench. However, the ipf also says that the heels have to be on the ground, and not all federations have that rule

  • @cozoner You reduce the range of motion. Most people have to much range of motion when benching and that can cause you to do damage to your elbows, etc. if you do not have perfect form. When you arch your back it allows you to press with a lot more power as well.

  • I've never been to a meet that encourages "flat backed" benching. It's called using physics and basic mechanics to your advantage. It's not cheating at all. Half the ass hats in the gym claiming they "hit 315 for reps" have their ass 3 inches off the bench, are flat backed, elbows flared out and DON'T EVEN TOUCH THEIR CHEST. Half reps don't count man. Flat backed my ass. Go get fucked.

  • 5:12 the glory of power lifting. All he did was put his feet on the bench, tighten up, and then put them down and he already has to catch his breath. I recently got back into lifting, but when I think off all of the actual power lifters I was around when I was a teen, my uncle and his friends, I just cant consider it a sport. They were all fat chain smokers, showing up to workouts with a dozen fast food burgers (seriously!) for protein.

I went down into the basement. Racked a plate. banged it out no problem. Racked a plate and a quater. Banged it out no problem. Racked a plate and 35's. same thing. Racked a plate 35's and a 10 pc.. Boom two plates with 5 reps. Got confident enough to go with a plate quarters and 35s and I maxxed out at one rep. Thanks a ton!!!

THIS DOES TEACHES YOU HOW TO BENCH LIKE A CHEATER! Benchpressing like he teaches doesn't count. I drop 50 to 100lbs off whatever anyone benches like this. If you bench 315 like this, I'll call you a 225 bencher. For a BP to count in the REAL WORLD the back must stay flat and you must lockout to begin. This guy has you performing magic tricks.

  • @GodLivingGuy I'd rather bench 225 while using my actual upper body muscles than to hip sling 315 down, bounce it off my chest and push up behind my head to cut 8 inches off its travel distance. Because in reality, if I benched 315 like that (the dave tate way), then in reality my pecs, shoulders, triceps and lats probably wouldn't be able to handle over 225 anyway. These are better called CHEATER techniques. Magic tricks.
