  • why do people hate mike love?

  • Funny to see how much Carl licked his lips when singing. I think he continued that habit on into adulthood but was just hard to see with the beard.

  • The sound is horrible, which makes it sound like Carl is the only one singing. Yet, his voice is so incredible, it carries and sounds great. RIP, Carl. We miss and love you.

  • Where the H. did you dig this up from, it's great

  • odd..seems like only Carl's mic is on for most of this ( at least up tp the accapella break.)

pretty poor engineering/live mix ..at least on the BG vox !

  • mike douglas was the coolest millionaire/host of all time. he had co-hosts who were some of the most radical folks of the 60's and nothing seemed to faze him! john lennon and yoko ono, Sylvester stone. stone was so out of it he could barely speak-mike was very nice and just cruised on through.

  • I hope Carl can hear music up in heaven, rest in peace. I'm glad to have lived in a world with you in it even if it was only for 2 years.

  • What's all this here about schoolmarms? Is that term (whether one word or two) even in this song? Anyway... Kudos to Mike Douglas for putting the gorgeous Dennis Wilson up front--and shoving Mike Love in his Manson-phase to the back.

  • BTW this video is from the Mike Douglass show which aired live weekdays from Philadelphia

  • My favorite Beach Boys song.

  • Try this song with Kathy Troccoli siniging it. She's a revelation.

  • School Marm....Schoolmarm....which ever coat feels best on you. :)

  • They seem to be playing live here. Dennis is certainly playing the drums that we are hearing.

Sounds like all of the mics are turned way low except for Carl's. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I would have liked to hear the harmonies a bit more though.

  • @at90percent Yup everything was done live on the Mike Douglass show.

  • Mike Love is the worst.

  • love the hair Carl !

  • Happy Birthday Carl Wilson and RIP

  • did they really even need Mike Love after about 1966....I'm sure he was well aware that he was VERY expendable.

  • @stingray1964 That's probably why he was so upset about Pet Sounds and Smile. It wasn't music to be played live, so they could get anyone to sing his parts on the records.

  • @dytakeda Mmm, yup you're probably right. I just bought the Smile sessions....(so amazing) so what's the deal...? It was never released at the time? The Beatles must have heard it though...I hear so much of Seargent Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour in Smile....??

    Thx!

  • @stingray1964 Smile was never released at the time, so it's stature grew to legendary proportions. The Beatles never heard it, but drips and drabs eventually got released like Surf's Up, Vegetables, Cabinessence, etc. Some of it re-recorded like Windchimes. Mike Love didn't want the BB going that direction, I think because he was afraid audiences wouldn't come to the shows if they couldn't do the latest music live.

  • wish I couldn't see Mike Love in such good quality...

  • what a fucking immense song! amazing

  • My Favorite BB tune

  • Pure music...end of discussion...

  • That's one cool guitar sound!

  • RIP Carl.....Dennis......never forgotton.

  • i seen them 11 times but not since brian passed away. america's group

  • @wolfmanrick Brian is still alive.

  • @jvcthome you are so right im sorry.i ment to say carl

  • Great Carl!! That's why Freddie Mercury chose to sing that song before Queen release their first album. Greetings from Mexico. Sorry my bad english

  • Carl was the voice of the beach boys.Brian was the brains behind them.

  • What I tell my love the last 10 years .. Played her this song to tell her my feelings shortly after meeting her.

  • what a beautiful man and pitch perfect !!!

  • I think this is one of their best songs!!!

  • God, please give Carl back to us just for one day.....we want to see his sweet face and hear his beautiful voice

  • @flgal88 His "sweet face." As a man, I would not have brought it up; but as an older man when so many formerly older faces now look young, that is an accurate description.

  • MY DEAR GOD PLEASE LET ME HEAR THE BOYS WHEN I PASS THRU

  • Carl's voice is perfect...so beautiful....RIP great man...and thank you for leaving us with your music....you will never be duplicated

  • @flgal88 Wonderfully pure voice. Notice he had no vocal support? I suppose we must accept that many of the past masters are no longer with us, but their music lives on. We are lucky because we can enjoy them still.

  • Wow Beach Boys on the Mike Douglass show. This is superior!

  • The voice of an angel, we will definitely miss Carl.

  • John Lennon's 1966 hairlook there. ;)

  • We love and miss you so much, Carl!!!

  • @Gidget521 You already postet exact what I intended to write <3

  • vocals live - music not.

  • Carl Wilson a very sexy man.

  • Al Jardine look like a lttle apeman

  • dam great

  • Carl Wilson..The voice of the ANGLES

  • @rocksinger45 Yes Carl had the voice of an Angel. This is just one example. In Carl's defense, the public address system can be crummy. I recall my first rock concert in 1969, The Turtles, whose voices were super on radio and albums. Well the PA system was so bad all we could hear was the music. Awful experience. Everyone kept yelling between sets, "TURN UP THE PA." They never could.

  • @MyPaulHenry Just so you know "The Voice Of The Angeles" is whats written on Carl's tombstone. RIP

  • @rocksinger45 Thanks. That is comforting. Maybe one day singers will seek to duplicate precisely these voices and instruments as orchestras do with classical music.

  • @MyPaulHenry To duplicate the music as it was is imposible because music like works of art are period pieces, you see it's the way the guitar amp, strings, recording studio, tape recorder, tubes etc sounded on that day that make a recording sound the way that it does. Many people have gone into recording studios and said can you give me a Motown sound or what ever and have failed miserably, that could even happen at Motown studio because the sound is frozen in time. :)

  • @rocksinger45 Obtuse or acute?

  • @konajinxed WTF..

  • @rocksinger45 You said Carl Wilson had the voice of angles. An obtuse or an acute angle? Oh wait you meant ANGELS. Wow. Do I feel stupid for trying to make you smarter!

  • @konajinxed Those are the words written on Carl's tombstone.

  • @rocksinger45 Angels.

  • @DailyMouth Thanks so much, you must be the Youtube schoolmarm.

  • @rocksinger45 That's 'Angels.' And don't let your insecurity show when someone corrects you. You look bad. Love, your school marm. (BTW, 'school marm' is two words, not one).

  • @DailyMouth Absolutely not insecure. I tried to spell schoolmarm and it came up in one word so you do your own search and see for yourself. OMT, I've never looked better.

  • @rocksinger45 Ha! Made ya look! BTW, school marm (two words) is the correct English version (Queen's English). Schoolmarm (one word) is the Americanize version. But, we be good, yes?

  • @DailyMouth Well since the Beach Boys (2 words) are an American band I'm correct. :)

  • @rocksinger45 That's a good ANGLE to take.

  • @DailyMouth Your not dealing with a Chimpanzee. :)

  • @rocksinger45 No doubt. And sorry if I wrote to you in a condescending manner. Oh, by the way, 'condescending' means to 'talk down to someone.' ;)

  • @DailyMouth Er...no " It should be "schoolma'am" the apostrophe indicating the omitted letter "d"- from "School madam". not the apostrophe and the complete lack of the letter "r".

But who cares, the music's great!

  • @rocksinger45 You mean Angels!

  • @2469jeff Yes I did...sometimes the print is so small on my lap top that I can't make out what I'm typing. So one else mentioned the same thing to me.

  • @rocksinger45 I'm sure you meant The Voice of an Angel----and he certainly did. Rest in peace, darling Carl. You were the best!

  • @jekorb :)

  • Love this song. She & Him did a cover, pretty good.

  • Not sure they did sing it live....check the guitars. They aren't connected to and amps!

  • @nellgwynn55 I think it is live vocals over a recorded track

  • @nellgwynn55 But.. i think that Carl,s singing was live.....

  • Wow! they did it live!

  • Rock On, Carl!

  • So glad they did this live. Carl's voice is so pure, I can see why Brian treasured it so much. Slight pity that the background harmonies are obscured by the music, but I'm real glad to see this.

  • @quieterrps Wow! I did not know Brian had that opinion, considering Brian also has done a beautiful rendition. They can make their singing voices very similar: duh, I should know that since they were brothers.

Yeah. Proper acoustics are vital. That is why it is so hard to duplicate studio recordings.

  • @quieterrps The music is canned with live vocals. Like a Kareoke of their own music.

  • @quieterrps harmonies are not just "obscured", they are inexistent. Spmebody should have killed the soundman.

  • awsome group, real talent!
