@slamspeed12 I usually prefer not calling Homestuck a web-"comic." It's a story told in the style of a text-based adventure game, where the link to the next page is a "command" for a character. The story is told with images, the commands, and dialogue between characters through chat clients. There are occasional flash animations complete with epic music. The story is focused around a game called Sburb, that is much more than any game, and everything becomes epic once you get passed the silly.

All he wants to help people, and he always knows what they need help with, but he just tries to help them with a "I'M THE BOSS YOU DO WHAT I SAY" attitude, so other characters think he's a bit of a jerk. He's really nice, just grumpy. All the time. But you would be, too, if you grew up on Alternia.

Karkat is such a beautifully layered character. Beneath that rough, grey, foul-mouthed exterior is a feeling, hurting being with blood that marks him as different, yet also points him out to be the most human of any of the trolls. I can't imagine going through what he did... he had no idea that Sollux's code would work. But in a single, pissy act of annoyance, he killed twelve innocent lusii and altered his friends destinies forever. And now, as he watches them die, he knows it's his fault... <3

For the first half of the series it just seemed to me that Karkat was nothing more than a bitter, power hungery troll. Even in the Act that focused on the trolls I didn't really like him. It wasn't until things really started going bad that I realized how hard he worked to keep everyone together, how desperatly he clung to each of his freinds, and fought for everyone. He was a true tragic hero, doomed to repeat his mistakes simply by trying to fix them. This is an amazing video for showing that

Karkat really is the character that says the most about why the troll session failed so hard. He, as is his personality, tried to win the game as fast as possible. Regardless of any signs of shit going wrong, he kept going, continuing to fuck shit up until all of it finally catches up with him. And he knew it, and it tore him up because of that.

This was fantastically put together, and the way you staged the scene with Jack and Karkat and the blood was perfect - it's one of my favorite sequences of images in Homestuck.

I can never decide on who my favorite troll is, but Karkat just definitely took the First Place slot for now.

Karkat is that rare type of beautifully flawed character that one appreciates for his apparent weaknesses rather than his strengths. He is a tortured soul and his own worst enemy, who sabotages his own designs one way or another, and all of his efforts and creations are usually doomed in some way, even as he strives to achieve a greater good. He is his own cancer (no pun intended). I love Karkat.

Also, he's supremely ironic in that all of his failures have a silver lining (like creating the doomed Aradiabots to defeat the black king, and how activating the Mobius Double Reacharound virus was essential to victory) and all of his successes turn out to be failures (like completing the game so fast led to Bilious Slick having cancer). In the end he's just a very complex and tragic character. And my Favorite one : )

They occupy the same protagonist archaetype, a subset of the Trickster which revolves around the id, around the frustration and helplessness of the angry child.
