embryonic stem cells used for stem-cell research are from embryos that were fertilized through in vitro (outside of a woman's body). when the embryos are "no longer needed" they are donated for research. scientists take a few cells from the embryo and DISCARD the remainder of it, put the kept cells on a dish and allow for cell division to take place, exponentially creating more stem cells. there are new studies going on,that don't harm embryos. i only know this because i'm writing a paper on it.

Do people know what an embryo is? It doesn't necessarily have eye balls and a spinal chord. It is anywhere from the time the zygote begins to divide until weeks after zygote formation. I have no problem with people using cells at the 4 and 8 cell stage. It is just cells and chemical signaling with no ability to feel or think. No pain, no comprehension of pain, not even "Hmmm, is THAT pain?" Nothing. It is infinitely more humane, and from my point, moral, than slaughtering animals

3. Embryonic stem cell research has only been around for less than a decade, and thanks to the Bush Administration, hasn't made any progress in the last 6 years of that decade. Saying that it hasn't found a cure yet while adult stem cell research has is kind of like saying the HPV vaccine hasn't worked yet since women still have cervical cancer. Embryonic stem cells form tumors, so really aren't the answer here. Stem cell research is allowed and well funded in US ($40million annually for embryonic). Don't believe the hype.

He didn't ban them, and actually approved the use of the already created ones up to a certain date; but said that he wouldn't condone federal funding for them.

rubbish at the end of the day if they can develop their understanding of genetics far enough they will be able to heal people with terminal illnesses or better yet prevent future generations from suffering these dieseases, at the end of the day u can call it playing god and what have you, but centuries ago people did far worse things to bring medical knowledge to the level it is at today, and just imagine where we would be without that knowledge now?

They recently grew a new jawbone inside patients abdominal muscle here @ IMT Tampere, Finland ... where my GF studies also... it was then successfully installed to patient, and that is just a beginning... research on stem cells helps alot of people, and anyone who thinks its unethical will change their minds when they got some kind of disease

What do they do w/ those cells if ever they're allowed to study it? Do they like make those cells grow into fetuses and study the cell structure from that, or they just study them as very tiny cell? For if they grow them into living fetuses then study them, then I would be against it.

embryonic stem cells used for stem-cell research are from embryos that were fertilized through in vitro (outside of a woman's body). when the embryos are "no longer needed" they are donated for research. scientists take a few cells from the embryo and DISCARD the remainder of it, put the kept cells on a dish and allow for cell division to take place, exponentially creating more stem cells. there are new studies going on,that don't harm embryos. i only know this because i'm writing a paper on it.

thanks a lot! im scheduled to give a speech about embryonic stem cell research next week. there's so much more information out there that would give people a clearer view of what the conflicts were/are regarding this study. there's a (republican) newspaper that puts a positive spin on bush's decision to limit federal funding - it forced scientists to find an alternative - from the study of fetal cells from a placenta - to reprogramming adult stem cells to act just like embryonic stem cells.
