I always miss this. I moved away several years ago, but always visit for Christmas, and always miss this!! I love visiting the MTA museum in Brooklyn and seeing the old subway trains and vestiges there. It'd be great to see them actually rolling through the system. Maybe this year I'll finally get a glimpse.
Certainly a treat, " 60's " style but remember leather straps before that, I think they spruced up for the Worlds Fair in New York around 1963 or 1964 and reconditioned many trains at that point in anticipation of world visitors and all of the publicity in the world as a result.
rdgwd237 all of your videos are interesting to say the very least, thank you for creating and taking the time to post them, so many of us are one time residents there, still have some family there right now too.
These trains are run as a special holiday treat during the month of December. Every Sunday during the Christmas month the MTA runs these vintage subway cars from the LES 2nd Ave F line to queens. They string about 5 to 6 cars together and leave the doors open so you can walk through. They even have the old subway ads posted. Check the MTA web site in December to get details. I went the last 2 years. It was sooooo much fun; so many happy memories.
This is great! I am a native New Yorker and a strap hanger and I had no idea these cars were running! I've never seen one! I can't believe how clean they keep them! I am headed to the LES to hop on one this coming week!
