Hi there, how come that my HDR setting can't be turned on my D5100? It says"THIS OPTION IS NOT AVAILABLE AT CURRENT SETTINGS OR IN THE CAMERA'S CURRENT STATE" Thanks for answering :)
@vrie8 hey I have the same problem as "urinmyhart" has. I tried M mode but it doesnt work. I think there'es something wrong with my camera. I don't have some of the options that you have on yours. I keep getting the "THIS OPTION IS NOT AVAILABLE AT CURRENT SETTINGS OR IN THE CAMERA'S CURRENT STATE" message...???
@HomeStudioMovies I had the very same problem, but... I just found the solution!!! All you have to do is to reset the Shooting Menu! (Shooting Menu/Reset shooting menu/yes)...
@urinmyhart I had the very same problem, but... I just found the solution!!! All you have to do is to reset the Shooting Menu! (Shooting Menu/Reset shooting menu/yes)...
it's a two shot picture..if you are using the live view and take a picture you'll actually hear a sound that sounds like a two pictures was taken..nikon d5100 can't take 3 pictures in HDR,it can only take 2.
@ctenochaetus that is NOISE REDUCTION, it decreases the amount of grain that you get as you increase your ISO, but may loose some details. I'm not certain yet to how much level you should up it, and/ keep it as it's normal state
Hi! can somebody please tell me why i can pick or use the HDR mode? it says that the settings is wrong or something like that... anybody know why i cant chose that format?! =(( i was really looking forward to taking pictures in HDR and it didnt work =(
@m3g1 If you chose to shoot and record RAW images, HDR would be not available. So get back to the menu and choose to shoot with JPEG only :D hope this helps
@TheodoreTDT nice. it worked.does it shoot 3 different pictures when u use the HDR in the camera? or do u have to set it up urself?cause it cant be HDR if the camera doesnt shoot different WB or something? =P im new to this, but JPG doesnt allow to much fixing after?i tried shooting manually RAW 3 same pictures with different white balance..that worked awesome.is it possible to take 3-4pictures with 3-4 different focus point?so u would have a more detaljed picture all over? thx btw=)
@m3g1 I had the very same problem, but... I just found the solution!!! All you have to do is to reset the Shooting Menu! (Shooting Menu/Reset shooting menu/yes)...
One problem with D5100, there is not a lot of control. You have to go to menu and turn thin on and then use it, which is quite difficult to do every single time, you want to use a feature, for example timer. There are only 2 short cut keys but functions are a lot.
Well, in the camera store they also didnt know how to put the self timer on 2 seconds.
And I agree, in terms of convenient settings the d5100 can be a pain in the ass. The EOS600D is much easier to handle but unfortunately has no HDR. Here you depend on photoshop.
Hello, Thanks for a tutorial. However, I still have one dilemma. After taking a HDR photo, on your live preview display, photo still looks like overexposed trough the window. Do you need to some additional software or something to get final HDR as you are presented as "HDR in Camera" ?
I have the same camera, and in the camera display I'm also not satisfied with it. But I'm never transfer it to PC to check :/ ... Is that just a display "error" or it needs more editing ?
hey ! everytime I put my D5100 to manual mode and I wanna change the aperture it doesnt work , it keeps changing the " SHUTTER SPEED " instead ,, how to change aperture ?
@yaudtube I was wondering the same thing. Maybe I'm missing something simple - I just bought the 5100 and haven't had much time to play around with it, but..mine will only take two pictures in HDR mode. I've been trying to figure out how to get three.
@andrw24 Did you set the camera in live view? You will hear three shots, but there's still only two shots for the hdr because when you shoot in live view mode you always hear two shots. I'm not sure though...
@cornbits311 I'm guessing you were shooting in RAW format. I had the same problem last night and realized that you have to be shooting in JPEG or it won't work.
@TSMultimediaTS ohh yeah canon sucks more they should stop making camera dslr and stick on video and btw my brother work in canon in japan even him use nikon for photography and canon for video so canon sucks on photography
@kathleen023 and why does anyone care what your brother thinks? or are you making that up, coz you did write "friend" in the reply to a different comment.
Plus you should know Canon 5D MK2 is killing the photography range so I think your brother/friend/you are wrong.
@TSMultimediaTS btw im japanese i live in japan my brother works in canon for 7years now and u know that canon and nikon is originally made in japan, u probly know that right???and if canon 5d mark2 is killing the photography why nikon is the NO 1 photography DSLR camera here in japan for almost 6years now and canon is on second place???but dont worry canon is the no1 video camera right now but will see if they can beat the sonny this year...
Hello, Dave! Can you tell me which camera, between the Canon 7D and the Nikon D7000, do you think is better for video recordings? I'm going to record a music video. Thank you! :)

@TheodoreTDT yeah HDR isn't available in RAW because a RAW image is only what the sensor see so all 3 pic`s would look the same
