  • I live in alabama, and we have the same problem with box turtles.. they are all dieing on the roads.. everytime i see one i get it off the road if i can. i may piss people off by stoping traffic but they will get over it.

  • poor tortoise

  • my dad and I saw a turtle get spiked by a car yesterday we tried to save him it looked like spaggethi when his guts spilled out he literally exploded

  • I have two turtles that live on my property in Florida. We call them Bob & Bobette. Bobette was hurt at one time or another. Her shell has a large scar and her right front leg was damaged. She has no problem dealing with us humans. I thank God for her. She brightens up my days when I see her trucking along. She has been a resident for at least three years.

  • Dam it... I just hope that tort did not suffer(highly doubtable) and is in a better place now.((( The saddest thing is when you see a tort/turt that is still alive but dying.(((

  • Why are we allowing the building of curbs along the roads?? The turtles and other many animals cannot get back and over it when they try to cross the roads??

  • if Floridians gave a dam they would build barriers alongside the road this money could come out a 5000 a year pay cut we need to give our polititians for the piss poor job they do.

  • I feel that you are very knowledgeable . is it against the law to own a gopher tortoise ? can an animal that has been a pet be released into the wild? will they survive ?

  • You make your best to save her. Be sure where she is now, she now knows you made it for her.

  • i have to turtles i luv them

  • hey man nice vids,i found a new born baby gopher tortoise in my street in fl,and it had a cracked back but when it started to heal hes way to used to captivity and hes ben in his big enclosure for a while and she loves people people, but if u have any advice for me it would really help out

  • Me and my son found one today we live in Sulphur,Louisiana and we dont know what to do with it I dont want it to die and stuff since we live close to the main road and I dont know any places to take him.

  • I live in Mobile AL and I found a Gopher Tortoise we didn't know what it was at first so we decided to take it to the Environmental Science Center and now it lives their and has laid quite a few eggs.

  • God bless you. You saved the turtle God bless you man

  • Thanks, lonetraveller, for doing your best to save these poor souls. I get sick when I see those psychos that feel pleasure killing innocent animals, but I guess they are the ones who make me feel more respect for people like you. God bless you and, please, don't change and keep being a wonderful man.

  • god bless you

you are truly a very kind man

  • i have a preserve as you :) in coahuila, mexico and i have 33 gopher turtles

  • Damn..I hit a Snapper earlier, I don't even know why he/she was crossing..

    Luckily..it lived.

  • Nice video, let me ask you do you still have GT on your land?

  • It isn't no wonder it died! You drowned it in iodine you dumb ass! How deep was the water in there 4"?

  • They love hibiscus flowers.

  • so poor

  • Sorry he did not make it. You did a great thing trying to nurse him back to health.

Bummer he looked like he had a lot of life experience, poor ole guy.

  • i feel so bad for that turtle good job man

  • Thanks for the post and for your connection with nature. You're an inspiration for appreciating and recognizing this little guy's importance.

  • I rescued a gopher tortoise one time after it was hit by a car. I took it to a veterinary hospital and they in turn took it to a wildlife sanctuary. hopefully they were able to save it.

  • I just sent you a video of "Chip" the box turtle that recently died due to his injuries. He was hit by a car last fall, patched up and was gaining weight--then something changed...and this is the last video of him alive. This video is now a tribute to his long life. It is really hard sometimes to do what we do but it must be done to help these animals that are unable to cope with our crazy human ways.

  • Great work you are doing with GT's! It is very sad that that beautiful tortoise died even with your care. I know how hard it is as I just lost a male eastern box turtle that was HBC and survived the winter only to die when it warmed up--probably from infection. A few years ago I saw a large GT get killed on the Florida Turnpike and the woman driving was talking on a cellphone and did not even slow down!! I still get mad thinking about it!

  • You're a good man.

  • kudos to you, i have a turtle of my own and if i were to see an injured turtle i'd rescue it immediately

  • kudos to you, i have a turtle of my own and if i were to see an injured turtle i'd rescue it immediately

  • well done mate, good to see people looking after hurt animals

  • see good people like this guy help keep animals alive and not let them go extinct

  • Ha Ha! If your not joking, it's still funny.

  • i hunt animals

  • Not Gopher Tortoise`s in Texas, (I`ll shoot you back ^_^)

  • Agaun, not Gopher Tortoises in Texas (Got a 22 in my room right now.)

  • Agaun, learn to spell.. its again you texas queer.. and i got a 12gauge... bring it on

  • What a beast you are!!!!!

  • then your fucking sick deal with it

  • Then you're a lousy prick. Deal with it.

  • You should deal with the fact everyone thinks you're a cunt

  • people that kill animals for fun, should be killed themselves, you sick bastard. im glad to see that majourity of the people actually care about saving the tortoises.

  • Those people who enjoys khurting animals should be drowned in boiling oil! It's just sick and sadistic!

  • you did a good thing for a helpless animal

    thank you

  • why not just leave the tap on. Seems like he would of healed up just nice

  • ouch!!

  • this is so sad! youre doing a noble service my man, i wish i could help! i always take the box turtles i find in my yard and put them in the woods so you're not alone in the fight!

  • i have around 12 turtles on my property and my smallest turtle is as big as ur largest so get back to me and we could meet

  • This is so sad. We should improve gopher tortoise awareness

  • Okay man, thank for letting me know.

    Sad to hear this news.

My favorite animal is a monkey, they make me laugh.

That and the wooley mammath, even though they are all dead now.

  • Good job my friend.

They should post signs so people know to drive with caution.

Man he must be in pain, i hope he gets well.

  • the tortoise is dead.if you read the info and press more it shows a update.

  • I have always been fond of reptiles - turtles, tortoises, lizards, and even snakes need our protection and admiration. Thanks for doing your part (and then some).

  • other comments said that it died. when did it die? i didnt see it die... your a great person. we nee more people out there like you.

  • wow you are a great person, i give props to you

  • how do you know that it died?

  • Im sorry it died. They really do deserve our protection. Makes me happy to see some people still care about animals. Keep it up.

  • that was a good thing you did....so sry he died even thouhg he was in good hands

  • We are also residence of North Florida, (Live Oak) and we just found a similar situation. We also put some tape on him, I'm going to get some benadine. (Thank you) Also, Friday I'm taking him to Gainesville, I've been told there is hope for him there.

  • if you find a tortoise with a damaged shell it helps if you mix up some fiberglass and put it over the damaged section of shell, thats what people use to replace sections of damaged shell

  • It's sad. because, I'm pretty sure there's only about 5 or 6 vets in the whole of North America that will do surgery on a tortoise. It's also really hard for tortoises and or turtles to heal after such a surgery as would be required (as visible in this video); so, most of them end up dying.

The reason why there are no vets who will perform the surgery is simply because they are so fragile to heal, to perform surgery on and hard to anesthesize.

    still. you're a great humanitarian.

  • Why not they take the tortoise turtle went to Vet animals make be safe make tortoise tutle feel better and be heatlth very strong?

  • Dang it.

  • =[ Sorry she didn't make it.

Keep on doing what you do. You are truly a great (for lack of a better word) humanitarian.

  • sucks that the tortoise died...i'm glad you tried your best to help him...

  • i love tortoises and turtles so much. i got 2 tortoises and i seen loads in the wild. did you know the chinese sell them live in supermarket, coverd in plastic stuff? they sell em coz the chinese seem to enjoy eating them

  • yea the chinese are a bunch of dicks

  • lol yer

well the ones who r involved in 95% of the world's animal cruelty activities anyway.

  • p.s. thank you for your efforts, wish there were more ppl like you that cared

  • Who put the duct tape on him? With wounds that severe they shouldn't be covered unless the injury has just happened. And it should be a light gauze and surgical tape Application days later will encourage infection. Poor guy, he was the epitome of a desert tort...so beautiful.

  • I don't know who put duct tape on him...that's how I found him.

  • i found a tortoise before with spray paint on it meeeeeeeen

  • DAMN FOOL HAD DUCT TAPE ON HIM

  • I appreciate your passion for protecting these magnificant creatures who have "homesteaded" on your 2 acres. Two acres... who would think what a big difference two acres can mean to a species? Thank you for your good work and inspiration.

  • ur well good 4 checkin him out

  • bless you man thanks for fiding the tortoise i feel bad :( i hate the bastards who just run over a turtle or a tortoise and just run off

  • You have a heart of gold and are a really good friend to torts.

  • Agreed. You should be proud man.

  • you do great work, i love wildlife im from nyc i visited nova scotia and newfoundland recently, now ill put florida on my list.I really enjoy your videos

    keep up the great work!

  • a) Why did you try to open up the tortoise's wounds?

    b) Tortoises are not aquatic. Why put it in water like that?

    c) If you really cared and did such a good job you'd bring it to a vet to treat it. Of course it died at the end!

    Moron!

    P.S. - I own 4 torts.

  • FYI: The vets office was closed. The vet instructed me to give the tortoise a betadine rinse. I brought it in Monday morning and they worked on it for a week...the necropsy showed it died from internal trauma...nobody could have saved it.

Nothing worse than a dumb ass commenting on something he knows nothing about. Shows just how ignorant you really are, samhainaz.

  • awesome comeback

  • @lonetraveller I have been to African Horn. But i did not had the guts to watch this video loger than for 20 seconds. (((

  • Shut up.
