  • I agree with Watusireggae, people seem to forget that Todd Rundgren actually wrote the song and it appeared on his band Utopia's Oops wrong planet album in 1977. Cudos to England Dan and John Ford Coley's version, but, I still think that Utopia's version is better. I'm sure Todd sang all the way to the bank though....lol

  • very heart felt...

  • I grew up going to thrir house as a child for "firesides" for the bahai faith

  • peace to everybody this is sincere....

  • Def. check original.... Todd Rundgren and Utopia

  • Great song. More about licking pussy than passages in the Bible.

  • @Friedtoenails looooool

  • I love this song. So great back in my day for sure.

  • Thank you for this post.

  • I had NO idea "England Dan" was Dan Seals!! Seriously!! :)

  • No disrespect to the original by Utopia, but the sax at the beginning makes all the difference.

  • this is the version i was most familiar with growing up. great song, great version.

  • Questa canzone la ascoltavo nel 1982 quando ero un ragazzino. Un genio questo artista!! bellissimo testo!!! indimenticabile!!!

  • Everyone should look up the original by utopia

  • @ThatGuyMorganWall I have. It's shit. Thanks though.

  • @meerkatz74 It is better than this one

  • thanks to my hippie brother Danny who was so much into their music back in the days. he's 10 years my senior. i grew up in a home where there was always music streaming in the air. i didn't appreciate the constant barrage then. neither did i listen attentively, but sunbconsciously i know for sure. little did i know that eventually i'll come to love the songs that i practically i grew up with. this song is so nice. really quite a lift : ))

  • Which guy is singing melody, and which harmony?

  • Todd Rundgren of Utopia (a progressive rock band) wrote this song and was the first to record it in 1977 on their album "Oops, Wrong Planet."

  • @keithrdutton Wow, really? I had no idea... love Todd Rundgren!

  • One of the best songs of all-time love is the answer to the questions of life hopeful message sung by beautiful voices

  • @RacerXGTO, From the Exsultet, sung at Easter Vigil Mass in the Catholic Church:

What good would life have been to us,

had Christ not come as our Redeemer?

    . . .

    O happy fault,

    O necessary sin of Adam,

which gained for us so great a Redeemer!

In Romans 5:20, Paul says that where sin increased, grace abounded all the more.

St Leo the Great said "Christ's inexpressible grace gave us blessings better than those the demon's envy had taken away." God made man and angels with free will.

  • to jesus go the praise honor and glory!! thanx for sharing that with me @JeannineBaty48!! life is so precious that god made the ultimate sacrifice for all creation and sent his 1 and only son into this world to shed his purest blood to make us whole again!! all i can say is find other believers as you and talk about your life's experiences, keep the faith and pray everyday!!

  • So, after listening and enjoying this song for years, it's really a religious song?

  • Comment removed

  • @jeanniebaty I think I need to rephrase my question. Was the song written and originally performed as a religious song

  • @jeanniebaty Why cant it just be a great song about love without trying to attach your bible to it?

  • @thebest129397 HA HA HA not sure what this is in response to but it's pretty damned funny regardless.

  • I wish I could just keep pushing the "like" button over and over. Wonderful song still to this day!

  • Thanks y'all for the awesome responses! I have wondered if the DJ who played this song at that significant moment in my life even knew what an impact it had. Makes me kinda ponder a bit about the significance of the little decisions I make about things on a day to day basis. =)

  • @JeannieBaty48 Just wanted to tell you how glad i am for you and to remind you that this beautiful song was written by Todd Rundgren and recorded by his band Utopia.

  • 13 people got the wrong answer.

  • i love this song....

  • great musicians,i love this song, thanks for all Dan Seals & John Ford Coley

  • Dan Seals (England Dan) left us with some awesome tunes like this..So did his brother (Seals and Croft) I would bet that even their grandma could belt out a tune or two.

  • i bet when england dan sang this years back he never thought about the message of this song would hit home like it did.what a shame his life was taken way to early .god bless him and john ford coley for still keeping all this wonderful music alive.rest in peace dan seals.

  • Love this song! Thanks for posting!

  • This song rocks!

  • Todd Rundgren is the best!

  • @TRSoulMan2010 My first thought was that I love Todd Rundgren too, but what does that have to do with this song... just found out he wrote it!! I\ve always loved this song.

  • Have loved this song from the time I was 15!!

  • WHAT IS THE PROBLEM I LIKE METAL AND England Dan & John Ford Coley ...... HA HA I HAVE GOOD TASTE

  • @GAZARAKK Yeah that's great turn your caps lock off for fuck sake !

  • I grew up listening to this song :)

  • @texasghost I posted this video to my fb wall and quoted your comment for the caption.Instead of paraphrasing you or being redundant, because thats the truth and nothing but the truth....

  • spiritual song regardless of your religon...just enjoy!

  • For Stephanie M who passed from this world 9 days ago at age 21.

  • the globe needs to practice this and listen carefully

  • love is the answer but it sure can hurt.

  • This is a great song to travel with.

  • This song hits a spot right in the middle of your chest...your heart.

  • I'm soooo glad to hear that you opened the door to Christ. He does work in mysterious ways. So many songs say things that we try to say but can't. And they expose and convey feelings we have, but can't express them acurately ourselves. Many great songs like this one are still out there to be heard. :)

  • JeannieBaty48 That is wonderful! God has a way of reaching us in a song or whatever he may choose. I am glad to hear God used this song to save you. It is one of my favorites!

  • Let It Shine!!

  • there you go with those pictures to use as an escape route.

  • This is real music.

  • Unbelievable songwriting with brilliant vocals.

  • hey hey hey@jeannieBaty48 please if you would, let me tell you something, all of the hurt, pain, disdain, sorrow,no self respect, and even hate?? you was touched by the true living god that made all we see!!! listen to me close?? ask jesus to enter your heart and give you the kind of peace that is batter than anythin this world can offer you!! ask jesus to forgive your sin, we are all sinners and need god's salvation, and you are born again in your spirit and soul!! praise god you are saved!!!

  • @topcatroar61oliosc Hi "top"...yes, I did ask Jesus to be my Lord and savior about 30 years ago, pretty soon after He broke into my life with this song. I am still strong in the Lord today. God is awesome!!

  • I went to see these guys in concert in the 70's when they were just starting, have listened to them since. They just don't make them like this anymore.

  • Jeannie so glad you're still here. thanks for sharing your story

  • @christinecraze Hi Christine, yeah, I'm glad I'm still here too. So many people think that suicide is an "easy" way out, but that is a lie of Satan, because it only leads to a much worse place than this, and the worst part is that once you are there, there is no hope of ever getting out...ever. I'm so thankful God stopped me when He did.

  • who wrote this song? anyone know?

  • @gumbeet Todd Rundgren wrote and performed it originally

  • Bring back the music of the 60's and 70's the best!!!!

  • @penelopeannj I tried to give you 1000 thumbs up but it wouldn't let me!

  • So good...

  • This is the song that stopped me from committing suicide when I was 17. I'm 48 now, but the words in the song pretty much summed up the things I had been contemplating about life at that time. I realized God was speaking to me through this song, and trying to connect with me in some way. Long story short, I gave my life to the Lord very shortly afterwards, so this song is very special to me, as it was God's way of breaking through my darkness with His light at a very critical point in my life.

  • @JeannieBaty48 that's very touching

  • @JeannieBaty48 Glad you are still with us!

  • @THEBossSound Thanks The. =)

  • @JeannieBaty48 im trying to keep from ending it. some days are better then others. I would like to believe like you do but i have a hard time with organized religion. i was wondering do you go to church?

  • @thebest129397 My mom was listening to this song and found your comment. I don't know how much it will help, but you have one more person than before who cares about you. I know we've never met before, but you can send me a message anytime you need to. One of the best parts of social networking for me is the ability to reach out. So if you want to, drop by sometime. :)

  • @ChristianCanid bless you for telling this soul so many others will never let them feel alone, we are not alone, and we are accountable to each other. It has always been there but thank you for reminding us.

  • @untilwechange Thank you for your kind words. God bless you as well, and your loved ones. :)

  • @thebest129397 I added you to my prayer list. :)

  • @ChristianCanid Thank you

  • @thebest129397 No problem. Remember, let me know if I can help. :)

  • @thebest129397 Hi Best! I'm so sorry...I just got this. I know life is very hard sometimes. It's not religion that strengthens me through the hard times, it's my RELATIONSHIP with the Lord. Religion is dead works. You need a relationship with Jesus. He has a special purpose and plan for your life and can turn everything you are going through around for the good. Don't look to people, they are fallible, look to Jesus. He is perfect and he loves you. Invite him into your heart.

  • @JeannieBaty48 P.S. Yes, I do go to non-denominational church, by the way, but I don't go because I'm trying to earn my way to Heaven (because that can't be done anyway), I go to have fellowship with other believers and get teaching from God's word, so my faith and relationships with other Christians can grow.

  • @JeannieBaty48 Thank you for responding. I have since worked through alot of problems and am alot happier also looking up to god and thanking him for the little things. you sound like a very good person god bless dw

  • @thebest129397 ending your life will only mean misery for those you leave behing that do not deserve it. Please find the optimisim that another day or a qualified therapist can help you with, many have been there and are so happy that they are still here. Getting help is ok and a normal part of life. Get well and help others.

  • @JeannieBaty48 god bless and be with you.

  • @JeannieBaty48 And the Message is delivered through song and dance. Glad to know that you're still around spreading the word

  • @JeannieBaty48 Wow!! awesome, inspiring story....

  • @JeannieBaty48

god bless you. Im so happy to hear that you're life turned out well :).

  • @JeannieBaty48 Good for you , glad that you found whatever it was that helped you make it through the hard times . Stay blessed. Shalom.

  • @JeannieBaty48 I am glad you are here. It is a Blessed song, kissed by Christ!

  • Actually, I think of this song as more spiritual than a love song when you listen to the words. ( light of the world shine on me, love is the answer) I could be wrong, it probably means something different to everybody who likes it. To me its just a great song that reminds me of a simpler time.

  • A very nice interpretation of a Todd Rundgren tune.

  • Goes right through the soul don't it?

Great songs never die, they just get better.

  • @MrVeesworld Hi Again Vee, if you like this version check out the original from Todd Rundgrens band Utopia. It on here just search it out Rundgren wrote it.

  • @TheTooz72 Yep I heard it. I like this version better however. Todd wrote some great songs th0ough didn't he?

  • Gorgeous, one of my faves....

  • What idiot doesn't like this song?

  • @morganhill69 I dont like this song.... I love it

  • cumon its the shlol

  • This song must have been written and recorded in Heaven, for only God could have been the author of such a personal and meaningful song--both lyrically and melodically.

  • I agree and the lyrics are even more appropriate now than they were even then.

  • You must be a very sad human being to dislike this.

  • ok the bridge here is my total life...paradise begins at 2:34 or so...

  • Perfection in the studio. Until you can do this zip your lip. This world is full of losers who judge and listen to Nickleback yet have zero fucking skills other than trying to pretend they're tough guys and wearing long shorts.

  • This is one of the most beautiful pop songs of the 20th century.

  • I will never tire of listening to this special song..

  • I don't know which is better, the lyrics or the music, what a great song

  • 10 people don't like porn staches.

  • lmao!

  • I'd forgotten how much I love this music!

  • Plz take me back in time, where i would be 18 in 1970!!!

  • Rest in peace, John!!!

  • @phambo101

Todd Rundgren wrote it and his version is better. This is also good, however, but lacks the emotional charge and musical complexity Todd gives it when he sings.

  • this song and nights are forever with out you are my two favs

  • Those are classic 1970s gay mustaches

  • Umas das melhores musicas que JÁ OUVI

  • Kudos to a very underrated songwriter and producer... Todd Rungren

  • Excellent song...nice...easy to listen to and they sound great!

  • timeless song, pure truth

  • These are the last of the love ballads. Nobody makes love songs anymore. Sadly..the only way for artists to be relevant in this day and age..you need...

    1. To say the "N" word at least 30 times in a song.

    2. To say the "F" word at least 30 times in a song.

    3. You have to have a "rap" or "hip hop" gimmick.

    4. Be a slut or a guy that has sex with 30 women and praise it in the song.

    5. And you must have someone featuring on your song saying all of the above words and rap or hip hop as they sing.

  • ,,at least with 30 women a month, in your lifetime is just pathetic.

  • @texasghost

    I AGREE!!!!

  • @texasghost Well said my brother...

  • @texasghost take your life my friend and focus on so much more then you are currently, I know you have so much more to offer then this from your heart.

  • England Dan & John Ford Coley went full blown country like so many other performers whose days as pop artists were behind them, sad really. I guess Branson is the next best thing to being relevant.

  • shine on us all love is the answer.....

  • Never realized This was a 'cover' penned by Todd Rudgren... Love this recording ... but I suspect It's overly "compressed ' by the Engineer to 'pop' on Old Top 40 Radio. As the "build-up" on the bridge... with the Choir seems to 'hold-back"... Should be more Dynamic. Wonder if It was ever 'remastered' for a more Dynamic sound on Any Digital Medium ?

  • I have always loved Jim Seals but Dan Seals was just as great and he will always be!

  • Personally I LOVE this song!!

  • love is the ancer

  • A time when we had REAL music!!!

  • this is music.....

  • brilliant song

  • Luv Luv Luv ..................this song.!!!!!!

  • I wish there was a live performance of this tune; This tune has a hypnotic quality to it that needs a live performance to display that power. Oh well...

  • this is one of those tunes that I gaurantee that millions of people like but would feel to embarassed to admit. The lyrics are so universal and direct. Todd Rundgren is amazing to have penned this one. One of my good friends' mom just died out of the blue and this song just makes that much more sense in light of that. Love people guys they will soon be gone...

  • Love truely is the answer.

  • the guy on the left...i think he ended up being one half of "Seals & Croft"

  • This song continues to change my life....

  • just GREAT music....

  • This song is about the Lord. (Ask the Man in your heart for the answer).

  • @TheLar1969 Todd is God!

  • These guys were TOPS!!!

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!! It takes me back...

  • <3

  • Doesn't really get going until about 2:26

  • I mean this song not thus

  • @Phambo101 I don't 'dislike' thus song, infact I LOVE it, but I love the original - I hate this version! Everyone who likes this song should check out Todd Rundgren (the writer)

  • Didn't Todd Rundgren do this originally? Love this version, too. Lovely harmonies. Takes me back to when I was a kid.

  • This is a cool song. I remember when I was 12 years old, singing along to it.There have been plays where the kids and show actors & actresses, have sung this song like as a chorus. This song really tells it like it is"LIGHT OF THE WORLD SHINE ON ME,LOVE IS THE ANSWER".

  • A big shout out to one of the best sax players out there, Ernie Watts, who, as usual, plays his heart out on this song..

  • Music I grew up with. Thank you for posting.....songs like this really jars your memory and the past becomes clear again! Great music, great lyrics and notes.

  • A beacon of a song ...

  • i had a dream the other night and this song was playing clear as day in my head. what a great song

  • Such a wonderful song and takes me back to my youth every time I hear it :0)

  • Great song! I have it on my favorite list and when I need inspiration I play it. So simple. Love is the answer. So true.

  • Leave it to an obvious fundamentalist to hear a song played about love being the answer and the response is to quote Scripture and damn a group of people to hell in a few choice sentences. I hope you and others like you will eventually get the real message.

  • I loved those 70s harmony-based singles of theirs. You Can't Dance to This ONe, I'd Really love to see you, Nights are forever...Each one brings up a specific, clear melody

  • One of the duo is the brother of one of the singers from Seals & Crofts and man do you hear it. They almost sound identical.

  • @714AD RIP Dan Seals, you are missed

  • @714AD RIP Dan Seals, you are missed

  • Comfort!

  • For those of you who "dislike" this song, please tell us why. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written-----EVER!!!

  • @phambo101 yeah, it's a brilliant song, but the original by Utopia is more heartfelt. This is a good version, but the Utopia version somehow sounds more authentic. This is rather over-produced, and the vocals are heavily duplicated from the original. But, if it wasn't for this version, the song wouldn't really be as well known.
