Oh man, when Vader yelled "I hate you!" to Obi-Wan, I thought that is the moment that really shows that Anakin is dead and Vader is beyond redemption. And it shows because of how he yells it while his eyes glow red and yellow.
@mannardme Well but the whole story shows Anakin is never truly dead because he eventually saves luke. And in the next shot after Obi-Wan says "I loved you" he has this look that deep down he knows he screwed up.
Well, if people wonder why it's not R, well, you don't see blood and body parts flying around, and I practically asked in my own head for Darth Vader to get messed up like he did, I mean fatally injuring your wife, mass-killing a bunch of little jedi who still thought you were their master instead of at least offering them to join the Dark Side? Come on, Darth Vader deserved a living hell for what he did, and he got it by living in a suit for 24 years.
@peacemkrmattarmour02 Because it's very violent and graphic. Seeing someone burn alive is not not PG 13. It's R. But I'm sure FOX and Lucas spread around the money to the secretive trolls of the MPAA.
A. Make the previous plots/films stronger. I.E. Get rid of kid Anakin and make him a more ikable character. He was whiny, selfish little brat that deserved what he got in this scene.
B. Better acting/dialogue
C. Shorten this fight and make the choreograhpy better. And by better I mean human. in the prequels the fighting was too clean in how they fought.
D. Hire someone other than Hayden Christiansen to play Anakin
@KevinHGreen A. Anakin is supposed to be whiny, and ambitious. He is supposed to be power hungry and full of spite because that is what makes him turn to the dark side.
B. In my opinion, the acting and dialogue are just fine.
C. I'm not sure what you mean, but the fighting scenes of the prequel trilogy, excluding this one, were not between two people who were such close friends, it is a different setting, and it makes for a strong ending to the film.
@KevinHGreen Agree with all points except C. I always felt that the fighting in the prequels was crazy because the old order Jedi were trained exceptionally rigorously. I think it's a nice contrast to luke's desperate beatdown of vader in the end of rotj.
True, you can't deny his limb amputations and immolation are pretty horrendous. But I know they're going to really help him make the transition to a sith lord that really knows how to grab success by the horns.
That kid's going places, you can bet your credits on that.
@Darkbrightproduction The 3 things that kept me interested in the 3rd one were the fight scenes between Obi-Wan vs Grevious & Obi-Wan vs Anakin. The other thing that kept me interested was Ian McDiarmid (Palpatine/Sidious). Seeing him become so friggen badass was worth it, lol. In my opinion, it was him and Ewan McGregor that kept the last 2 episodes from falling apart completely. Oddly enough, I didn't even care much for Samuel Jackson or Natalie Portman (though I blame the writing for that)
I never understood how Obi won could stand there and say how he was his brother and he loved him, and then watch him BURN ALIVE. It was so out of character, and very unbecoming of a jedi. All he would have to do would be to extend one hand and pull him up. At the very least he could give them a quick death.
Me speaking to my frozen veggies yesterday as i pulled 'em out the freezer, particularly my carrot:
Me: You were the frozen one! It was said that you would thaw the quickest, not stay frozen! That you would cool the fastest, and not get rid of your orangeness!
Carrot: ....
Me: You are my favorite veggie, man. I loved you!..
uhm, wouldn't he have died completely and burned down to the bone, instead of only having his skin scorched? Just saying. That is the most unrealistic, yet sad, scene I have seen in a movie. But srsly, your body is burning everywhere in big flames, and you still survive. In real life, he would have died instantly.
@TheNatureFreak1 I wish instant death were the case. But I've seen two very disturbing Live leaks videos (don't go looking for them) that prove otherwise. The human body is 70% water and just like a green log won't burn without sustained heat. Clothes will burn, but unless there is something else on fire such as some wood or a burning vehicle the flames will go out once the clothes are burnt and at least in some cases the person will still be alive although horribly disfigured.
this is similar to the scene in lord of the rings return of the king its just that behind mount doom you dont know what there is to see cause they dont show in in lotr
are they even human? it would be too hot (considering everywhere's lava!!) for them to survive if they were human ... couldn't stop thinking about this ^.^
@Wh1skey how did they survive in mount doom in lord of the rings they just got by until they got out of there they would have died eventually they were not there long enough thats how i see it anyway
@xtreme3xo finally someone else sees it. He did technically bring balance to the force. Last i checked, Overwelming light and no darkness was not balance.
this scene is very important because it's the ultimate and final step of his journey into the dark side, and also it shows the suffering that he had to go through for the rest of his life.
obe wan: "YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE!" .... "IT WAS SAID YOU WOULD DESTROY THE SITH NOT JOIN THEM" .... "BRING BALANCE TO THE FORCE NOT LEAVE IT IN DARKNESS" ....... anakin: "I HATE YOU!!" ... " YOU WERE MY BROTHER ANAKIN .. I LOVED YOU" anakin gets set on fire obe wan looks away and walks
Why the HELL have any Video on Youtube to much dislikes but this has only 2 ?????????? Does it means anything? Oh my Gosh they like to see him burn T.T Poor Ani ...
When I saw this in theaters, I was about 13 years old, and had already watched all the Star Wars, knowing the characters inside and out. This scene was absolutely hard to see, seeing a hero that I had grown to admire, to fall under such a terrible fate which led him to commit such horrific actions. Seeing all those younger kids leaving the theater in despair after seeing their hero fall under the seduction of evil, taught them that in every epic tale, tragedy must fall.
I remember when I saw this in the theater, a bunch of little kids started crying during the final dialogue between Anakin and Obi Wan. I realized that if I was a child, and these were my first Star Wars movies, not knowing how it would turn out, Anakin's fate and all the unexpected doom in this movie would have be pretty heavy. I don't care much for the prequels, personally, but I can dig that people who grew up with them have a unique perspective
Now my Dad and I both agree that in this scene Obi-Wan was sort of cruel. When Anakin caught on fire it would have been more merciful if Obi-Wan had killed Anakin to end his suffering. But I do understand that it must be horrible to kill your best friend for years...
Looks pretty epic, but has a few mistakes. Firstly, there is no such thing as a "lavafall" - moving lava cuts through rock like water through sand. Also, just because your not touching the lava does not mean it can't burn you! It's like sitting a few feet over a large bonfire - except thousands of degrees hotter.
@Dinoenthusiastguy Its a movie. You cant say this movie suppose to be like real, or there will be no force added. if so then i want to use the force o-o
@azkitanmoreno123 For the elements themselves to behave differently would actually require another universe, not just another planet. Whether they are different or not, the lava would still be very hot and the heat would rise and kill them, and lava cuts through rock like hot water through ice, so still no "lavafalls".
@Dinoenthusiastguy what if it's not lava. and its fucking hot sauce. and those neomodians are harvesting salsa because its the only on planet good they can offer for trade?. And the salsa was quite hot, comparable to that of a 250 degree oven, there rendering it quite possible for anakin to be able to lay there for a few seconds with out completely melting. just saying, its a theory..
@GalacticWarsPictures That probably makes the most sense. And besides killing him, while it probably would have been wise too, wouldn't have made that big of a difference. The Empire would still exist because Darth Sidious would still be around and we know Obi Wan wouldn't stand a chance against him, and by then he might find a new apprentice to take Anakin's place.
Remember in the theaters trying so hard not to tear up but I couldn't help myself, when I noticed almost everyone was tearing up, (Girls were crying and a granny was sleeping)
Good memories. This is a very sad scene, one of the best in my opinion.
obi-wan kenobi is a very HONORABLE loving man. obi-wan said words with deep meaning of brotherly love. i love the spiritual themes of star wars, also themes of the struggle between good and evil. we all can be redeamed from our sins, just like i believe anakin redeemed himself on return of the jedi.
I remember when i was 12 seeing this in like silence and like freaking out at the same time! >.<
I also remember the good ol' days where when i was 9 and after Attack of the clones came out my friends and I would try and come up with ways of how Anakin became Darth vader volcanoes were included :P :) :D but not like this scene though caught us all off guard!
@Anchorman1725 but everything that happened to Anakin was because of what he chose. I kinda side with the original comment seeing as how Obi-wan had no choice, he had not only fight his best friend, but watch him burn and suffer, when he knew there was still hope in him.

Anakin: i sould of known Han Solo was planing to shot first
Obi-Wan: Anakin, Han Solo shot first, Greddo is evil
Anakin: From my point of view, Han Solo is evil
Obi-Wan: Well then you are lost.

All Anakin needed was a water pistol full of a flammable fluid and he would have won this in 10 seconds flat!

Poor Anakin. Or Vader. I don't know where one starts and the other ends.

He's split in half by his now ex-best friend, is engulfed by fire, his wife dies, and he becomes Palpatine's b*tch. Someone's having a bad day..
Anchorman1725 7 months ago 2
@Anchorman1725 but everything that happened to Anakin was because of what he chose. I kinda side with the original comment seeing as how Obi-wan had no choice, he had not only fight his best friend, but watch him burn and suffer, when he knew there was still hope in him.
