Also wanted to note that Jesus said there would be false religions and even false "Christs". He said that "by their fruit you will know them". If you have been hurt in a church--blame the person/people--not God. He loves you and hates what they did--and they will answer for it someday.
There are a vast number of churches--some are evil--some are true. You can tell the true ones by how they love God first, and then their neighbors. Christ taught to even love your enemies. If killing or torture is going on--those people do not know God at all--(no matter what they say)and will come into His judgement. Anyone hurting a child is also especially in danger of judgement by God. What church are you attending which preaches hate? Then it is not of God.
Yet He is the one who created you, and put you on the earth. Why would He create you unless it was out of love? There is evil--certainly-but it does not come from Him--it is a different source.
It really makes me sick how people use religion to hurt others. The churches use God so that they carry out these acts of abuse. Even in biblical times the church wasn't good! Question? I never heard of Christ going to the church. Where was the church when he was being tortured and killed? People don't have to go to church to find God! He is everywhere, even in the most forsaken places. All you have to do is call on him and you will find him.
The biblical God is just as evil as these people who use him to abuse others. If he really is God, I would rather spend eternity in Hell then worship a jealous, power hungry vengeful God that is portrayed in the bible
I can see how you feel--but please do not be deceived into thinking most Christians and God are into abuse. Christ came humbly to die for the sins of mankind--and the Bible forbids any kind of abuse. In fact, the Bible teaches there are some false people in churches that follow satan instead of God. Many churches today are speaking out against abuses and the churches are being purified by the Truth. You will see that many Christian organizations applaud such investigations.
It's not the just the abuse by Christians (that and their complete hypocrisy is one) but read the Old Testament and tell me how you can think your God is anything but Evil.
True Christians respect the Ten Commandments (which forbid killing, adultery, and harming others) and confess their failures and ask forgiveness when they do wrong. False religious people that claim to know God but are cruel, abusive, egocentric are only fooling themselves. They will not be saved. It is sin and satan that are evil-not God. A God that would die in place of people is a God of love. I am sorry if you've been hurt by false religious people--I love people, including you as God does.

I do not know if the Bible is the total Word of God. I trust it. But I have serious questions as to what really came down at the Counicl of Nicea 321 AD When despots and killers decided what books were of "God". I have prayed to God, and I have cried out to Jesus about this. No clear answer yet.
@biologos101 Yes. I understand your rage. I have it too. I get worse when I go to church. Politics is always a way out for religion to avoid the weightier matters of faith. Little is told of archaeology and church history. Unless it is some partial cut from the "news" embellished to elevate their corporate interests. To them the Bible is a minor issue. What counts is maintaining the lunacy of their wonderful belief systems that do not even really elevate the Christ they claim to know.
