  • omg!! thank u sooo much!! walmart dnt carry these sticky mats anymore, n i seen a bunch of tutorials but i thought that over n over glue should wrk the best!! i bet it did ha....tfs!!

  • ...what gule can we use ?-.-

  • You can find that glue at Walmart in the craft and sewing sections too.

  • I had to order it online but I have 2 bottles..seems like i'll never have to buy anymore if thats all you need,lol..which is great..now to clean off a few mats and give it a try..thanks

  • WooHoo!!!!! Thank you soooo much!!! I'm assuming u probably scraped the matts first, huh? TFS!!!

  • Thanks for this, good to be able to keep those mats working properly.

  • @Jrzgirl2474e Use more water! That should take care of it.

  • Thanks for this awesome tutorial! I am so happy to have found this! You saved me a lot of money and saved my 4 cricut mats from the trash! Thanks!!!

  • I have that sitting in my stuff and used it for homemade glue dots and wondered if it would work for my mats. I bought new mats and after one use they were no longer sticky.

  • Big Thank you Laura I went to Michael's bought the Aleene's tack-it over & over glue and I must say this is the best ever! You are the "Bomb"! X:)

  • I went to a Joannes by us and they never heard of Aleene's tack it over and over again :( They only had Aleene's tacky glue.

  • Thanks so much!! I had trouble finding that glue at first. Joann's didn't have it but you can order it on-line from them. I did end up finding it at Michael's and as soon as I got home I got out my mats that were not at all sticky and tried it. It worked GREAT!! I like and wanted to let others know that it REALLY doesn't take that much. Only dip the foam brush in once and spread that out. It didn't seem like it was enough and I was tempted to add more but I didn't and I'm glad I didn't.

  • I just want to say that I am so greatful for your advise. I am michelle73ism and I have not bought my cricut yet. I was very concerned about just the mat and how long it stays sticky. I just wanted to know can even fabric be used even after tacky glue has been applied to make it sticky again? I hope that you understood my question. If not let me know and I will ask it in a different way. Thanks

  • Will the original tacky glue work the same way?

  • What about the original mat? Did you "scrap" off the old stuff before applying the new "stuff"?

  • Thx for an awesome tip!

  • I knew there had to be a way to reuse these mats. It just seemed ridiculous to throw something like that out and buy more. Thanks so much for your helpful tut. I'm going to get my glue tomorrow. The correct glue, see I paid attention.

  • sounds great, just bougt a cricut, i will be trying this tip.

  • I just did this and it worked perfectly. I only wanted to do one mat, so I combined 1/2 tsp of glue with a 1/2 tsp of water. That was just about the perfect amount for the 6 x 12 mat. I rinsed out the container and rinsed off the brush, there was not enough to even bother saving. Thanks so much for this easy and affordable suggestion. :)

  • Thank you for sharing this!! I just won a Cricut Expression, and I honestly don't know a thing about them.. But I'm always hearing about mats losing their stickiness, so this is good to know!

  • I tried the CTMH blue glue and it was worthless in the endeavor - I keep buying the sheets - so now I have a solution thanks to you!

  • thanks. big help

  • I used Gorilla Glue and it's not working! Just kidding :) Seriously how many times do you have to say what you used? This is a great tip. I went to Michael's and bought what I needed tonight: Aleene's TACK-IT over & over (seriously, how is just about every commenter not understanding they need a particular glue?), a small sealable container, and a foam brush. The bill was $8, less than the price of a 2 pack of 12x12" mats! I heard on another video to use a little bit more water than glue in the

  • @taterbug83 You are so funny! Thanks so much! I do this like I cook: a little glue, a little water, no, looks like it needs more water. Oh, no more glue! AHHH, just right! LOL!!

  • @LauriesCraftRoom I tried this with a teeny bit more water than glue and it worked PERFECTLY! Thanks for posting!!!

  • @Jrzgirl2474e Did you dilute it? condition it? Also, if you did dilute it, maybe try adding some more water. I know mine I've had mixed with water for some time and I think some of the water evaporated even though I have it in a little tupperware container. Anyway, I had to add a little more water myself. The good thing is that if it is too sticky just walk your hands over again & again. Hopefully it will work better for you next time! It works great for me and many others! Good luck!

  • Lauire, quick question I have used the Alenee's tacky spray adhesive and it will not stay sticky am I using the wrong product or what? does the spray adhesive have to be repositionable? thanks

  • @reneyco I use Aleene's Tack it Over and Over Again glue not a spray. I tried sprays and they didn't work AT ALL for me!! Even the repositionable ones! I think you have to spray it each time or at least pretty often for the spray to work. That doesn't work for my lifestyle!!! I hope this helps!

  • Laurie, I liked the idea and will def. use it! Thanks! One other thing, I'd like to have my own webpage too. How do I get started? Do you pay a monthly or yearly fee for yours and where did you find it? I want one that has the name that I want to use, like yours does. Thanks!!

  • Do you need to only use Aleenes tacky glue? I tried it with a tacky glue and it didn't work, even added more glue and not sticky???

  • @ginger0174 Tacky glue doesn't work. It HAS to be Aleene's Tack it over and over glue!

  • @LauriesCraftRoom thanks for getting back to me..

  • I would like to know if this method would work with the imagine mats

  • Thanks for the info. I've been wondering how to salvage those expensive mats. I cleaned one off using goo gone stuff, but didn't know what to recoat it with. Now I do.I will try the tip of "conditioning" a new mat as well. They are always too sticky and tear my papers when trying to get off the mat.

  • Unfortunately that doesn't do anything to my mat to make it sticky. The goo gone does nothing and I left it on for hours . I have the new mats their selling. Maybe it only works on the previous mats they sold. Thanks for the info though.

  • @hg1bbs I don't use goo gone or even mention it. I use Aleene's Tack it over and over again! Not sure where you heard the other. Please try again! Thanks for watching!

  • @hg1bbs From what I understand, the goo gone will actually take off all the old glue and also cleans off any old pieces of paper that may be stuck to your mat or if there's some old gluey stuff. It will NOT make your mat sticky again. What I do is, use the goo gone first to really clean my mat well, and then do a method similar to the one mentioned in this video. Hope this helps.

  • This was a fantastic idea!!! Thank you so much!!!!! You have no idea how much money you have saved me!!! Thanks again from ontario Canada!

  • If you're scanning YouTube like I did trying to unlock the secret to long life for your cutting mat, then look no further. This is the best method. No unhealthy aerosol sprays, no pricey Zig pens, no heavy residue. First, I put painter's tape on the borders of my mat as a precaution (to keep adhesive within the cutting area and away from the rollers), then brush it on. In just a little while, it's all dry and I've got a fresh sticky mat. It makes old mats like new and the glue solution lasts fo

  • Love it! Thanks for sharing!

  • Could I use regular Elmer Glue?

  • Thank you so much!

  • This is the BEST method that I've found. My mats stay sticky for a REALLY long time even if you leave them uncovered by accident.

  • This sounds great. I need a way to do this but I'm in a country where it's hard to get aerosol spray glues. Most important thing for me is that it doesn't leave a residue on the pieces being cut. I cut photos (face down) so any residue is terrible. I tried 3M 75 I got locally but it leaves yucky sticky stuff all over the photos.

Can you tell me if you have seen any residue left on the cut pieces?

  • This didn't work for me. But, rubber cement did.

  • i went and order this from the company now i need to know about how you mix this please

  • I purchased a set of 2 new mats for 10 dollars(WALMART) so that I would be able to have multiple papers on each and be able to quickly switch but I am so glad that I was able to find a way to make them re sticky I didn't want to be buying more all the time. If I don't have to buy more sheets I get to buy more cartridges!

  • This worked perfectly!! Thanks for the really thrifty method to make my mat sticky again!!!

  • Hi Laurie - How do you get rid of the original adhesive on the mat? Mine has some cat hair and dust on it. Thanks.

  • @sammietr I just use warm soapy water and a soft kitchen scrub brush. There's a link in my discription with more info. I hope that helps!

  • Thank you for the tip, I just received this morning the glue (got it online from USA and I live in Greece LOL)!!!!!! It's so hard to find repositionable glues here, thanks once more!

  • Thanks for your tip. I do have a HUGE question. The warranty/instructions on the cricuit says not to do this as you will void the warranty. So my question is how long you have been doing this and what has been the effect on your machine? Like another viewer on here , the mats DO NOT LAST LONG when they come from cricuit...and they are expensive! Thanks again!

    cheers

    dave

  • awesome. I've tried using the scrapbook tape method but it costs as much as purchasing a new mat. I cant wait to try this. Cricut really should have a method for us since these craft mats dont last as long as they say, they are costly and tossing them is really not ecologically sound. I'm definately excited about trying this.

  • Your method rocks! I have used it several times and always works like a charm for me. I clean mine with nail polish remover then I use your method. TFS! ~Shen

  • thank you!

  • Hi Laurie,

How do you clean the old mats before you put the glue on them?

    Thanks for sharing.

  • I'm so glad for this info. My mat is to the point where I would have to buy a new one and your method will be a great mat saver. Thanks!

  • hi, i am not sure how to check for a response to this so can you email me at southstar22_2003@yahoo.com... anyways i ran out and got everything to do this but i might have done it wrong... how come it like beats of the mat?

  • awesome! This is perfect, thanks!

  • love your ideaI Do you clean your mat first?

  • Thanks for the tip. I will give this a try.

  • Thank you so much for the great tip. I tried it out and it works perfectly! how did u figure this out?! Like u i have tried many other methods but this is by far the easiest and fastest! Thanks for taking the time to make this helpful video.

  • Hi Laurie. I found your video by accident while looking for unmounting wooden stamps using tack it over instead of the cling foam and I just put your technique to work and MAN you aren't kidding it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much faster than a zig, much cleaner than spray and SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cheap! thank you so much for sharing!

  • Hi! Great Video. I've been a long time crafter but new to the wonderful world of using my new cricut machine Like most, I am always on the lookout for a cost effective saving tip! Thanks bunches!

  • That is so helpful it saves me a lot of money.. that is so awesome thanks

  • Thanks for the great tip!

  • thanks

  • That is a great idea, but it makes me wonder, how good is that on the cricut machine? KCB xoxo

  • Hi Laurie. I love your videos, I ran right out and bought everything needed. Cleaned my mats and put on the glue. One question, mine are too sticky. My paper is sticking to the mats. Should I add more water ?

  • @kelgentry You can try adding more water. I use about a 50/50 ratio (not measured exactly). It is pretty thin. Also, be sure and condition your mats slightly by walking your hands up and down. It has been recommended that we do that with even brand new mats that also might be a little too sticky. I hope this helps. Thank you, Laurie

  • Love this i will go and try to find this tomorrow thanks so much for sharing.....

Just like to share that i use my baby wipes to clean off my mats it cleans them really well (fluff and bits)and has made them a little sticky too...do need to try this though but a really easy way to clean them.

  • Hey all... I found that goo gone sprayed all over, then scraped off clean and then dried, and then spray with re-positional adhesive like the "slice" spray, or Krylon Easy tack works great and allows several refurbs of old cricut mats. The krylon and slice sprays are at michaels and hobby lobby. I hope this helps! :)

  • @flaxenhairedgirl These methods are great for several uses but my method will literally made your mat like new for MANY MANY uses and then just clean mat and reapply glue mixture. Sometimes just cleaning will make it sticky again! The mixture will last a long time. Mine is still good in my little tupperware bowl seen in my video. Thanks for your comment. That method works great for some but when I go scrapping I want my mat to last the night not just several uses. KWIM!

  • Laurie

Thanks so much. I found one at a different Michael's. I tried your method and it works perfectly. you are awesome!!!

  • Are there other version of glue that I can use? I couldn't fine the "over & over" one, and I got the Aleene's tacky glue... it does not work. I looked all over my Joann's & Michael's, neither has the "over & over" one :(

  • @cmouber There are other cricut owners that use a different type of glue but it HAS to be a repositional glue. The Tacky Glue is great as a glue but is not reusable. They do have it at my locals M's and J's but I know not all carry the same stuff. Be sure and really look yourself, if you haven't already! They look at me like I am crazy whenever I ask about items. Or you could try ordering the Tack it Over and Over online. There are many that carry it.

  • Thanks I'll have to try this! Great tip!

  • yay thnx!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for the tip!

How long the mix can last?

  • I found an Aleene product that is already diluted... "Aleene's Reposition-it TACKY GLUE" It is repositionable, and you just spray it on. I found it for less than $5 for 4 oz. at Micheal's. It is in a blue spray bottle, small enough to take with you to crops for a "quick sticky" retouch. Using the 2 of these togeher might be a great find! I tried making my own pop dots with this glue and it does work kinda. Let's just say that I'll still be buying pop dots!

  • great info. I have this glue on hand. thanks for sharing.

  • I still have the same mat that I bought 2 yrs ago. This method works better then use the 2 way glue! the blue glue, and shes right but faster! Dries pretty quick, you can use to make your own dots as well.

  • sorry, I see you say you use soft scrub and running water. Will have to try that thanks!

  • Do you use soap and water on your mats before applying this tacky stuff?

  • Thank you! What a great tip!

  • where do you get your vinyl?

  • Do you have to clean/scrape all of the old stuff off before you add the new glue. I always wind up with a lot of paper residue and junk on my mat.

  • Yes, great question. I should have mentioned that in the video. I have the spatula and try to get most of the paper off everytime I use a mat. I clean mine whenever they get fuzzy with a soft scrub and running water. Sometimes this is all they need to become sticky again, but after time this will not be enough. HTH!
