  • I've always found it helpful to tune up to the note but I never really understood why. Thanks :)

  • Ohhh... I've always thought that I have to press the 5th fret of all strings to tune it right... looks like I missed the part on how to tune the 5th string ;P Thanks ;P

  • i see people all the time use 5th fret tuning and take 10 min all the time and fight it me the 7th fret dead on each time 10 sec per string done lol

  • very helpful, thank you.

  • amazing! i had heard about this tuning method, but never tried it. im gonna tune like this from now on!

  • Does anyone else turn their guitar away while they tune so you don't get hit if the strings break?

  • on which octave would it be good to match the E(6th) string? thanks

  • now i don't have to keep paying my own damn brother to tune my guitar. Thank you so much.

  • thanks so much my gatuir is finally tuned THANKS=)

  • How do I know how much tension I need on the strings? When you tune the knobs you are only adjusting slightly, however on my guitar I can spin the knobs around several times and I have no idea how tight the strings should be.

  • Thanks man, now my chords sound right! haha

  • Teach me how to tune a girlfriend

  • DUDE this helped me ALOT! thanks for this video! :)

  • I THOUGHT THIS WAS NAME THAT TUNE GAME

  • d ko siya maintindihan..

  • dude, thanks.. :-)

  • big help, thank you !!

  • Hey ur guitar sounds so cool.. i;ve got a semi acoustic guitar but doesn;t sound tht good. Kindly tell me about EQ setting also i wana knw the difference among tuning types like, Standard E, F major, D major, Standard Eb etc. ?

  • thank you that is my only problem with playing is tuning

  • how do you read notes?

  • It is really helpful~~ Thanks~

  • done!!!! that was easy thanks!

  • Thanks a lot bro... you made it simple n sweet.... :-)

  • I think my guitar is broken cuz my A note sounds nothing like urs. I cant even tune THAT one let alone the rest.

  • in soviet russia guitar tunes you

  • @45thundertrain yeah!!!

  • see i am really bad with tuning by ear but none of the tuners i have lloked at have mic ports so i can tune my acoustic so i cant really tune mine. any help?

  • @shadowofgong Try a vibration tuner. it tunes through vibrations, not by sound and it's more accurate.

  • all tuners tune by vibration, thats because sound IS vibration. Theres no difference.

  • Good

  • Should you adjust the open string to the fret? or should you strum the open string and tune the fret to the open string?

  • @aBiPoIarBear you tune the open string to the fret

  • seriously nice guitar there..n nice tutorial also..

  • thanks man..... @dannyboylee and pasktachi.......tbh if u dont even know about frets and anything else then u should learn those 1st b4 trying 2 play.

  • YOU ARE THE MOST HELPFUL MAN ON EARTH!

  • Dude, what is with these tuning videos on YouTube? I'm tuning my guitar for the first time so I can learn how to play! I don't even know what a fret is. I'm with you up through tuning the A string, then I'm lost! Arg!

  • @dannyboylee I know exactly how you feel.

  • same xD

  • @dannyboylee these videos are for ppl who have basic knowledge of a guitar. a fret is between each of those lines on the guitar. the fifth fret is marked by a little dot on most guitars

  • @dannyboylee So, did you learn how to tune your guitar?

  • a fret is the boxes on the neck (Where you press down the strings)

  • @dannyboylee relax. its my first time too. be logical, if you dont know what a fret is look it up. these guys are here to show you how to tune it, not to explain what a fret is. daymn

  • @dannyboylee you cant tune unless you dont have an idea how to play.

  • @dannyboylee You shouldn't have gotten a guitar if you have no clue what a fret is. You should have learn a little about them, then gotten one.

  • @Nutmuffin12 Hey, douchebag, I know what a fret is now. I posted that comment over a year ago, so I don't need every single person who JUST discovered this video to comment me about it. Also, my original comment has almost fifty "thumbs up" on it, which means I'm not the only one who was frustrated by this video at first. You shouldn't have replied to my comment if you had no clue when it was posted. You should have done a little due diligence, then replied.

  • what guitar Brand and model is he using? PLEASE someone let me know....I want one!!!

  • @waynehedd its a martin&co....idk what model but those can be expensive

  • Excellent Explanation ... It Sounds really good !!!!

    Thanks a lot .... ))))

  • thankyouthankyouthankyou!

  • thank God there's relative tuning =)

  • "THAT SOUNDS GOOD TO ME.."

    HAHAHHA

  • hahahahaha...lmfaoooo:)

  • I HATE expert village

  • Haha!! 0:15

  • expert village = nazis

  • I've never relied on a tuner, only ever seldom used one. I pretty much tune a mixture of the method demonstrated here, harmonics but my best test is strumming an E chord and a D chord because so often one will sound pretty good but the other doesn't so it's about getting that compromise. No guitar I've had is perfect, a tuner is a starting point, then test for that inevitable compromise/balance (the B string is usually the fussy one)

  • fucking genius

  • good....

  • ooo man..that sounds good to me hahahaha

  • how do you tune drop C

  • tune the 6th E string to C. that's all i remember. i think um... do relative tuning after u get the C tune in 6th string.

  • tune all strings 1 step down, and 6th string 2 steps so u get

    CGCFAD

  • lol this dude is a choch

  • How is this guy considered an expert........*sigh*

  • He just showed you how to tune the guitar. What are you complaining about?

  • chek out deadly assasin and go on the guy in the cowboy hat.. hes only 13 and hes great on guitar :) plz

  • no matter what it is... I think anything coming from expert village has a "plastic" feel to it

  • expertvillage suxx balls

  • This doesnt help

  • Then you're not trying hard enough

  • this technique does not work effectively. if you want it 100% you need to tune your guitar using harmonics. if you do not know how to, check out JustinSandercoe's channel, you will fin a video that explains how to do just that. hope this helps.

  • hmm, I didn't know that. thanks for the tip ;)

  • Actually you really need a combination. Harmonics alone defo don't work and there is pure theory to prove that based on the frequency of each individual string and the relative frequency of fretted notes on one string with open strings. Also take into account the intonation of an instrument and the inherent fault in acoustic guitars on the B-string. Tuning is not always an easy thing for everyone.

  • well said, as i improve myself as a guitar player i'm learning how to tune my guitar better too, so practice makes perfect when it comes to tuning too

  • And knowing the particular instrument you're tuning defo helps. It's weird though cos some days I'm on the ball, other days my ears don't work as well.

  • Actually tuning by harmonics alone does not work as there's a slight discrepancy between the same note at different parts of the guitar. Take A=440Hz (concert pitch, the standard). If you tune your A string to this frequency and then tune the E string so that 5th E string is the same frequency as A open then E will be out when played open. Maybe not by much but will defo be out. Guitar is a tempered instrument with an inherent tuning flaw.Look up the theory.

  • thumbs up to you. i'm glad someone else knows this.

  • What...

  • i know you wrote this a month ago but... what are you saying that a guitar cant be tuned perfect?

  • @joe49790 i know you didnt ask me but yes you are correct..you would have to violate the laws of physics to tune guitar perfect...one main problem is the b string it is a major third higher than the g string...but all other strings are a perfect fourth apart from one another...hope this isnt to crazy sounding

  • yeah it may be out a tiny bit, but not enough for you to hear though, but it wont be 100% perfect, but still... i have read that theory and its quite interesting :) glad you brought it up tbh

  • can i tune with an online tuner. u know where u pluck the string online and then tune your guitar to that pitch. would that work the same way as tuninhg it to a piano?

  • yes, i tune with an online tuner (as my tuner is broken ={) and it works exactly the same way as tuning it with a piano... although i prefer doing it by a piano, but most of my friends prefer it from online tuners and others like the online frequency recordings, i use both online tuners and a piano... it all depends what your used too really.

  • ahah, thankyou mike lais! :)

  • well the point i needed that vid was to have a right sound o any string :D good vid

  • But I don't know how I could tune my guitar for example into drop D or something like that

    where can I get help?

  • howtotuneaguitar . org

  • to tune your guitar to drop d:

make sure you have it tuned normally first. then what you want to do is take the bottom E string and tune that to sound the same as your D string, there you have drop D,so instead of having your guitar tuned to E, A, D, G ,B, E, you will have D, A, D, G, B, E. hope this helps, if you need any more help just let me know.

  • you can also use relativ tuning on the 7th fret on the low E and tune it down, and when the note on thr 7th fret matches the open A you will be in drop D

  • someone finally makes since

  • thank you so much man, out of all the videos that i have looked at (which is alot)

ths vid was the clearest and the one who tought me how to so thanks so much !

  • Thank you for your help!

  • i can play the last post on my pitch pipe ;D

  • thx

  • thanks

  • Thanks I needed help tuning. :)

  • hey that was simple enough . Now can we get together and beat on estaban.

  • dont talk dut much

  • Excellent. Very clear explanation of relative tuning; I tune by harmonics (classical guitar) or by electronic tuners that usually don't work as well as my ear... But this is a handy method and I use it to check tuning, too. Thanks for probably helping out dozens of usually new guitar owners with a problem not usually nearly so well explained.

  • Thx u helped me ^.^

  • i'm confused

  • me too

  • I must suck...

  • This was EXACTLY what I put in my search box, tuning a guitar basics.......sweet.

  • I know lol..

  • guys I'm not even kidding. I'm tuning the 4th string and it snaps right while I'm watching this. It scared the hell outta me. I'm really pissed off, but I like this video. You helped me a lot. On the bright side i have 3 of my strings tuned properly.

  • hilarious haha

  • woah lucky it didnt slice u

  • thank you VERY much this made tunin so much easier and i just got my acoustic. This has definately upped my confidence now that my guitar is tuned right

  • Dumb shits its so simple, just listen to the video then start tuning

how many of you were fucking around with your guitar while the vid was going on??

thanks for the vid btw, really helped (: can tune mi guitar easy now (:(:

  • Really comprehensive. Thanks.

  • da fuck i didnt know tuning was this hard!!! fuck youtube sux i cant elarn shit!!!

  • ha, you think this is hard? This is easy. Of coarse i can guess from your language that you probably are not the brightest bulb now are you? well if you think tuning that was hard i take it you have never tried to tune a guitar with tremolo.

  • DUDE! Dumbshit, Youtube doesn't suck. You just can't fucking listen before playing your shitty guitar

  • THX DUDE

  • this is way too elaborated...just get a friggin tuner

  • lol

  • Thank you!!!

  • It's simple.

    Go to the 5th Fret.

6th String, should sound like the 5th string.

5th String should sound like the 4th string.

4th string should sound like the 3rd string.

    GO TO THE 4TH FRET.

3d string should sound like the 2nd string.

    GO TO THE 5TH STRING.

2nd String should sound like the 1st string.

    Hope I helped.

  • Ok, so you dun move frets till the "4th string should sound like the 3rd string"?

Then after: "3d string should sound like the 2nd string" do you remain on the 4th FRET?

  • Ok, so you dun move frets till the "4th string should sound like the 3rd string"?

Then after: "3d string should sound like the 2nd string" do you remain on the 4th FRET?

  • That's nice and simple ... 5th, 5th, 5th, 4th, 5th (frets). Thanks!

  • THANK YOU!!!

  • double dots on the 7th fret wtf

  • cool martin

  • i couldnt figure out what was more wooden, you or the guitar.

  • stupid comment...

  • nice video really a lot of help, thanks.

  • i can't tune a guitarr and i haven't got any others instruments...so can't you make another video of how to tune a guitarr with help of you ear?? or something :P

  • Just find a song in the key of E and tune your E string to that. Then tune the rest of the strings by that string. I use Passage to Bangkok, by Rush.

  • Or play your A string when the guy in the video plays his. Tune it to that

  • 70281
