  • that is deeeeeeeeeeeep....

  • You all wanna know something else thats on the disc? Johnny B. Goode! Cool! And another cool fact I found out from the golden record link in the description is that in 3/9/2012 the Voyager will be 17,941.27 Million Km / 119.93 Astronomical units away from us!!

  • Mind blown! o:'

  • i wonder where the tape would be now? or the Voyger one

  • I feel bad for that blind guy

  • how will the aliens listen to it if theres no air in space so how will the sound travel????

  • @tonystark159357 im pretty sure there will be some kind of air in thier spaceship or planet. besides, if they have inter stellar travel im pretty sure they could find out.

  • Michael Collins=New forever alone meme

  • lol im doin a speech on this

  • It's hard to believe how good vsauce is. Sorry, I just learned about it today, so.... still delirious with amazement.

  • karl pilkington ?

  • i love the irish michael collins he died because ha got pissed drunk and thought he was brage and got ambushed by s load of brits

  • @Muzicmyrock

If aliens are smart enough to find a tiny spec of human creation, they will figure out how to play the record (there are instruction on the flip side, no joke)

  • I'm writing a speech about this :)

  • @Flamingkingraw he said "lye". It's a very basic chemical. It's used in some cleaners.

  • What did his mother throw at him as a child? I couldn't hear.

  • @Flamingkingraw I think he said lime.

  • Micheal Collins is my distant cousin.

  • @nightsiren7 i bet *sarcastic*

  • 4:30 the earth is in a ray of sunshine! That's a pretty awesome coincidence!

  • 0:07 I could nearly see him cry :'(

  • Who is this dude wots he on about bet he's lonely

  • I'm sick for valentines day so I can't do anything with anyone! Lonely

  • So awesome..

  • The title appropriately describes my Valentines day.

  • first stupid comment: Youtube wouldn't let us toss that song into space. We didn't get copyrights for it. Second stupid comment: This made me so sad that i cried. third stupid comment: Blah Blah Blah thumbs up. Smart comment: Just comment about the damn video, Not try to get top comment. real comment: Don't thumbs this up? I don't want to be like the rest of youtube. <3

  • You're constant use of we drives me crazy.

  • @NevNevStone: YOUR lack of grammatical knowledge drives me crazy.

  • So he had 48 minutes to masturbate in space. I could be money on he at least had thoughts about it.

  • Mann!! They should have put some dubstep in there and Doritos :)) cause we earthlings love Doritos!!!! :D

  • That's a little pointless.. I mean, if this is anything out there, what if they don't have a machine humans invented? How would they, unless perfectly coincidentally, they made one themselves?

  • What a poor choice for Song, aliens will be freaked out by the creepiness of our human sound😖

  • @zsdg34 he lived on wet newpaper how could he digest this stuff no wonder he died

  • uuuh what?

  • Those are dog names...

  • you know every one has a ruler in their shirts right or is that just me?

  • The Song By Blind Willie Johnson was in the Movie "Public Enemies", i heard it in one of the scene, and remembered Vsauce.

  • how the hell are aliens going to know how to use a record?

  • @Muzicmyr0ck There are instructions in pictures. You should check it out.

  • @Muzicmyr0ck click the link and it says that they put a record player plus symbolic instructions on how to use it

  • @Pikachoo197 give a dog that same record. is he going to know how to use it? what makes you think aliens would be any smarter?

  • @Muzicmyr0ck That's easy. They go to a store and buy an ipod.

  • @Muzicmyr0ck Well, actually the premise of a record is very, very simple and any intelligent beings out there should easily be able to figure out how to make it function properly. They sent a record out because it is simply the most versatile. you could quite literally use a record anywhere because you just scratch along the grooves to make something vibrate. A cd would be near impossible to understand to other lifeforms. and drawings? forget about it. It would make us look like cavemen.

  • @Muzicmyr0ck Probably a alot easier for an advanced alien civilization than realizing humming is not a primary form of communication

  • @Muzicmyr0ck i believe there is a record player on the sattelite, which plays the record in outer space, so the aliens don't have to activate it.

  • @Muzicmyr0ck If aliens find voyager at any time in the comprehendable future then they will almost necessarily be of extreme super-human intelligence as they will have had to master fast interstellar travel and super-sensitive detection systems. Basically, if they have the scientific knowledge to find voyager, deciphering the record and its meaning should be no difficult task.

  • @Muzicmyr0ck if aliens have any kind of intelligence resembling ours - they would hopefully be able to carefully analyze the record, and notice a pattern - the circular grooves. at least, that is a start. if the aliens are not intelligence in any way resembling ours, then i guess it really doesnt matter.

  • @Muzicmyr0ck #:11 Read what he pointed at(:

  • @Muzicmyr0ck They included instructions on how to build a machine that plays the audio

  • @Muzicmyr0ck i guess they have to reed the manual xD

  • @Muzicmyr0ck - since a record is an actual physical imprint of sound waves on a medium, there is a good chance that aliens (if they are in an advanced technological state) will have used a similar machine to record and playback sound in their history.

  • if there's gonna be aliens attacking, i blame NASA for putting that record player

  • Mysterious ways huh ?

  • Oh yeah always keep a ruler with you!!! 2:26

  • @annoyingknife919 and a piece of string

  • @annoyingknife919 Allen Walker does!

  • omg awesome info!!

  • My mind exploded when you stated the fact about the most lonely guy ever.

    Re. Dic. Youlous

  • Now I don´t know if I´m depressed or facinated. What a Mindf*ck

  • thank you, very interesting

  • It's funny how the space lab video Michael did linked to this one, and the top asked question he had to answer was "Would Bear Grylls be able to survive in space" Pretty interesting.

  • Why can't we just dump litteral TRASH on the moon? It's not like anybody lives there! And we'll probably never go to moon anyways so let's just turn it into a dump! I think it's a good idea, I mean, we'll still see the moon, but we won't see trash, besause, you know, you can't se an empty shampoo bottle all the way from earth -_-

  • @LotusMelody But it would cost millions of dollars just for one ship to get up there and if you think about how much trash we got on earth you would understand that it would not only be extremely expensive and not very economical. You also have to fly at least I guess 50000 ship to get all the trash away and how cheep would that be?

It is also much cheeper (although not so good for the environment) to just dump it at sea or to just to burn it all.

  • @MrFungustTV Oh... I forgot about that... O.O'

  • they supposedly did tht on big bang theory (shoot on those reflectors) ;p

  • Who I did not think the moon was that far away, damn

  • Porn*

  • Check it out as seen on spaceparn

  • "Fire the laser!"

    *fires laser*

"yep.... uh huh...... we are approximately 6 seconds away from the moon!"

  • How do they expect aliens to read the thing that are on they disc i mean they have lots of pictures and sounds but they are on a golden disc and how would they read whats on it??

  • What did his stepmother threw at him???

  • @GloomY1HaveN It was lye. Basically just sodium hydroxide, it's used for making soap.

  • @mckayeaston Ohh that can actually burn your skin right?? Thank You.

  • This episode was really depressing!!!! :(

  • please do an episod on space please im fassinated in space i only watch the scince chanale and i learn so much i learn so much from you. sorry for my speeling

  • just when he said 38mm my clock went to 00:38

  • So, what else is hidden in your shirt?

  • Lemonater, the moon most likely has not been moving at 38mm per year away from earth, more likely slowly increasing that distance over millions of years...

  • Did the thing come with a record player? Poor lonely man. :(

  • 17367000000 km is the distance, Voyager 1 is now away from the sun

converted, Voyager 1 is 0.001835 lightyears away from our sun

It travels with a speed of 0.00005686 lightyears each year

The closest planet with earth-like conditions is actually 600 lightyears away from us

Meaning: If Voyager 1 would travel directly to this planet, it would be there in 10.552.201 years

The signal would travel 600 more years to earth, so if everything works fine, we may see aliens in just 10.552.801 years.

  • *slow clap* I salute you Michael. Best episode ever. best youtuber ever.

  • whats the backround song called?

  • If the moon moves away from earth 38mm every year hows the earth billions of years old?

    38x20000000000=alot...please someone answer.

  • @Lemonnater Because the moon and earth didn't come into existance at the same time. If you watched another of his videos (I dont remember which), you would learn the leading theory of the moon is that it came to existance when something collided with the earth and then solidified.

  • Imagine the song being Skrillex's Equinox instead of the Johnson song... xD

  • As seen On : SpacePorn

    ok......

  • Your name is not relevant! Where you are back at is not relevant! aargg

  • They couldnt have picked a better song

  • Poor Micheal Collins

  • This is so amazing i cant put it into words.

  • That was beautiful:3

  • This is beautiful.....it makes me feel weightless

  • This teaches me more than my teachers

  • Watching this really makes me feel like a tiny speck...

  • FUCK religion, our beauty is all around us.

  • lol he probably jerked off for that 48 minutes...lol cause i know i would!

  • 16 million miles away sounds pretty chilly

  • When his step mother threw what in his face? I couldnt make it out

  • @CPMackenzie Lye. A strong caustic alkaline solution of potassium or sodium salts, obtained by leaching wood ashes. It is much used in making soap as well as its use in biodiesel. (from Wikipedia) it's very caustic and can degrade organic tissue

  • I literary got goosebumps when you talked about the farthest away from us.

  • How would the record thing work? They'd need record players. lol. And even if they could get to hear the song, it'd sound like a mess to the aliens.

  • as seen on space porn?? (under the likes and dislikes bar)

  • 38 millimeters Aint 1.5 inches???????!!!! Its less than a quarter of an inch...!!!!

  • @9fodbold9 Nope, he's right.

  • @9fodbold9 lets see, 25 mm is 1 inch, then 37.5 is about 1.5. learn your math :3

  • @9fodbold9 dntknoifsrsorstupid

  • fuck this is better than school

  • Soooo coool !!!!!

  • Lol.. I think in this day and age On the Floor or Party Rock Anthem would represent us better...

  • Imagine aliens heard dubstep music 0.o

  • imagine being on the voyager 1 and listening to dark was the night

  • Lol what if they put Party Rock Anthem instead of the other willie Johnson song, imagine what the aliens would think

  • @skullcat115 the aliens would be scared of us instead of we being scared of them

  • @skullcat115 they wouldn't be able to, they would be party rocking monday through sunday

  • Comment removed

  • @skullcat115 They'd launch an immediate attack on us...

  • @JesusPaid4You you aint got no pancaik mix!!!!

  • i actually measured the distance between earth and moon and its a little over 6 inches

    damn thats far!!

  • Comment removed

  • OMG OMG OMG!!

    *crying*sniff sniff*

    never thought l'd like learning!!!!!!!!

  • Imagine how strange that song would sound to an extra terrestrial being.

  • pedo. lol jk your cool just subbed ;D

  • NASA just got more awesome

  • Michel Collins is forever alone

  • anybody else think its creepy he just had a ruler in his shirt???

  • @MrStacyVideos I actually think it's pretty awesome. But that may just be me lol!

  • thanks vsauce for the info about apollo 11! im doing my research paper on apollo 11 and you make it very interesting and fun to learn! :D

  • I loved the part about the song... ^-^

  • Such a great video .... I love when I see things that really put how massive the universe is into perspective .

  • @berlinisbaked It really makes you think ``There must be a God bro!`` Cause like you can go so far down into such a simple thing such as a flower pedal and yet the universe...It`s so infinite!! :DD

  • ronriness....

  • I can now officially say that Vsauce helped me with my homework. (I had to do a report on the Apollo 11 landing) So thank you Vsauce :)

  • @RoundHouseRecords Checked out wikipedia and it seems there are astronauts who goes alone Valery Bykovsky is an example, Sunita Williams another

  • @RoundHouseRecords Wans't Brian Binnie travelling alone? And im sure there were others..left in space station for example

  • @RoundHouseRecords He was not the furthest he had armstrong on the other side of the moon...in that case i give you a more concrete example. Earth(us)---------------Armstrong(moon)Collins...meaning collins was closer to armstrong than we are to armstrong and in other words collling was about 3,476km(moon diameter) from armstrong...there is possible a voyage were they sent a lone astronaut from earth and him being alone in space means the closest person he has is ppl from earth

  • @RoundHouseRecords exactly he was furthest from earth but not furthest from another human person...watch the video again and they say he was furthest from another person not earth...please think before you answer with stupid comments like this and refrain from calling people dumbasses, when they made a valid argument

  • wheres Neil Armstrong in the picture? left or right?

  • Forever alone lvl Mike Collins 1:05

  • Kinda sad once you realize how seculded earth is from the rest of the universe and us not knowing if we're the only things out there or not

  • super sad :(((

  • @Kuroneko338 what are you 7?

  • @jacksAtank It's called Lye, a corrosive alkaline substance that can cause blindness and chemical burns. Scroll down, someone else said it also.

  • What if the gravity of the moon is making all of these earthquakes as it goes further away from us? Could it then have been the reason y there r trenches in the ocean?

  • Did anyone else notice that he pulled a ruler out of his shirt?!

  • cried at the end T_T

  • What in his face?? Sorry didn't get that

  • I love your videos

  • You need a TV show.

  • Michael Collins could, and very well may be, the most amazing/lonely person in all of man-kind.

  • Well that stepmoms mean like wdf she blinded her step child rude ?

  • Proves stepmothers are evil

  • That's so sad.

  • I think it was Voyager 1 that discovered a planet about 60(0?) lightyears away from Earth, and it's got clouds, rock, and water, and it's orbiting a sun much like ours, and it's in the same spot as Earth is (About 93 mil miles)

  • Bear Grylls is so badass, his kids are bound to be, so they can be named Fairy Finkertwinkles and nobody is going to mess with them.

  • Could you please do more videos about space? They really interest me.

  • It is taking me every once of strength I have not to favorite every single one of these videos. Vsauce, you are wonderful.

  • Vsauce may not be right. Collins might have been closer to the other astronauts than people have been to each other on Earth (the moon having a smaller radius than earth). Very lost early people in primitive boats come to mind.

  • 1:56 on the right of the reflector. a plastic zip-bag?

  • Forever alone face

  • I just got here. R U still here?

  • It must suck to be the guy who wrote the song that best represents loneliness.

  • Why do I suddenly need a hug? :/

  • im alwaySSS lonely.....

  • Send HD cameras into space please.

  • Oh my gosh look at the As seen on

  • Comment removed

  • brilliant

  • Wow. That part about the Blind Willie Johnson song on the record gave me the chills. I'm just imagining that song playing in the middle of space, nowhere, floating away probably to never be discovered for the rest of time.

  • @srvfan42 thx for the longs thought >.<

  • @srvfan42 Gave me chills too...
