God, I so wish I was at this show. I LOVE Talking Heads and Phish so much. Two beautiful worlds colliding. I have this show and it's AMAZING! I can listen to it over and over.
If anyone thinks this recording is what a real recording of the show sounds like they are retarded. I have a soundboard. Before you bash on Phish really listen and watch this clip. The audio is all fucked. I don't know what is more bothersome, people saying Phish's cover of this song is awful based on this video, or someone that actually likes Phish watching this video and thinking it is awesome.
ok this is obviously a bad recording cause of the off syncness. if any of you noobs think this is a "miss", buy the recording of phish covering the whole album. you will not be disappointed. it's arguably their best cover attempt.
God that really sucks bad. They did a terrible rendition of the song. It is so off point. They make it sound like some stupid frat boy hippie party song. What dorks!
i first want to say that i am a fan of phish. But i do know that when these guys do covers its a hit or miss, and unfortunatly this is a miss. But hey there version of loving cup is pretty sweet.
Phuck all you non-music loving Phish haters. Phish rules. They played the bands entire album... say that again. Do you think they had years to practice for this night? The Talking Heads, a great band no doubt, would have considerable difficulty trying to rehearse and actually get on stage and play even one song like YEM, or reba, or Antelope, or David Bowie, you get the idea. Much less an entire album of someone elses music. The fact they pulled it off at all is amazing. Phish owns the Heads!
The fact that Phish would be so audacious to cover the Remain in Light albumn is stunning -- and, they pull it off!
To even attempt these rhythmically complex songs with only 4 musicians is amazing.
Honestly, when you hear this song (and the others -- Crosseyed and Painless is pretty darn good) on the CD from the show, thet're really quite good... and only 4 guys!
Fun. Phish gets props for having excellent taste and for their gumption in even trying to cover this song.
That said, go check out the 1980 Heads live video of this cut from the Rome concert. It will blow your mind, will open new vistas in it. I feel like I want to write a novella about how awesome that eight minute performance is.
The (expanded) live Heads in their prime were just tighter and more musicianly than Phish.
Trey had to play all the rhythym and lead parts on guitar. On the 1980 live footage there are two bassists, Tina and Busta. Here, Mike holds it down on his own (dare I say Mike Gordon is a far better bassist than both the others). Karl Perazzo and Fish were excellent and Page added the perfect dash of keys. They pull it off very well without an army of session musicians!
OF COURSE the Talking Heads sounded better ON THEIR OWN song. It's no surprise that you people would be trashing Phish for a very solid performance of such an intricate and highly produced album. And this is horrible audio/video quality.
This is Phish paying homage to one of the greatest rock albums in history. Is it the same as when the Talking Heads did it? Absolutely not. Does Phish do an incredible job tackling such an intricate album? You bet.
I'm not a Phish fan, so this may offend those who are, but to me this is a pretty accurate, yet completely lifeless version of this song. Watching the 1980 footage of TH doing this, I can't help but move my old tired ass around. Watching this version I'm just... bored.
this show is amazing. it's a great example of phish's ability to take great music - make it their own - and continue to influence and expose people to wonderful music.
Puleeeze. This sounds lame next to Talking Heads version from 1980. Everything is missing. Jam bands LOL. But hey, I guess if you are stoned everything sounds awesome.
Respectfully saying that this Phish clip ranks among the most monumental available on you2be. Get the show. Learn about the Talking Heads. Best to you and yours.

I used to be a pretty big Phish fan. I sort of cringed when I heard they were going to do the entire "Remain in Light" album.
To be fair though, I don't think anyone should've tried to cover that album.

I am suprised no one has watched this and said anything.
1) this is a recording of someones screen.
2) this video is not the video that was there in concert.
3) their lips, finger motions, nothing lines up in this video.
4) I have this show on disc, from sound board and honestly i consider this version to give TH a run for their money.
5) Trey and David byrne are good friends who in the early 90s played togther often.
6) I love the talking heads.
