Yes, official time testing showed time from 0-100 in 2.5 sec, and all testing was on gravel, so they figured that on tarmac is probably around 2.3, it's true...

If they've got ± 500 hp 25 years ago. How much power would they have had today?

If a Delta S4 was able to reach 100 km/h in 2.5 secs, how many seconds would they require today for the same challenge ? Would the pilots be able to drive the evolution of these monsters? Toivonen said in '86 that the S4 was running faster than his brain. I really can't imagine the evolution.

Group b was suposed to be replaced with group S in 1987 anyway, it should be the cars with all technology from group B, but power will be restricted to about 300 hp, lancia, toyota, audi, the all start to built cars for group s (search for lancia E.C.V) so group B was suposed ti end anyway...

The Group B refered to a set of regulations introduced in 1982 By the FISA (now FIA), for rally sport cars. They usually used mid mounted engine and all wheel drive (Audi, Peugeot, Citröen BX 4TC, Lancia...) or rear wheel drive (Renault5 Maxi Turbo, for instances). They had no boost limit, a very low weight, etc... Those cars were very difficult to drive and their performance prooved too much, resulting in a series of fatal crashes, as a consequence Group B was cancelled at the end of 1986.

You're probably talking about the MKIII Escort in 1980/83, or Escort RS 1700T (But Sainz only appeared in the World Rally Championship with Ford during the 1987 season...). The RS200 was a AWD car. The AWD era, started with Audi as coupé Quattro in 1980 and as a rallycar in 1981(remember Michèle Mouton?). The car that we are talking about, was produced since 1984 (as a rallycar), until 1986.

I love Group B, grew up being driven around in a stupidly tuned swb audi sport quattro, loved it!

With F1 being so rubbish these days I think they should bring it back in a fashion - 300bhp isn't enough! I want mid engined crazy things! 0-60 in 2.5 secs on gravel in the 80's... What could they do now!

I dunno if i'd agree about it being a panic reaction - it'd been to dangerous for years, the crowds were hundreds of thousands, and the final crash could've happened many more times
