I could practice 12 hours a day, everyday for the rest of my life, and I don't think I'd ever get as good as Christian Vader. So precise and so sensitive. It is really, really impressive.

JimboCelt, who cares if you think that there are other drummers with equal skill. It's not about drumming skill. Christian Vander has created a completely unique sound with this band and he has been the driving force behind Magma since at least the early '70s. I really wish people wouldn't keep comparing drummers. It's just the old 'my dad is bigger than your dad' mentality.

@JimboCelt Well although Christian Vander is my favorite (right now), there are scores of other prolific drummers who are at least equal in skill, potential, and creativity. Tony Williams, Carter Beauford, Vinnie Colauita, Bill Bruford, and many, many more.

I am not a particular Magma fan, but I think Christian Vander is the most powerful + sensitive drummer at all ! Listen (again) to Magma live 1975 album (or CD) I can remember terrible thrills on my back and sometimes I had to cry while listening to the outstanding musick(!) Good to know that they´re back again with their 1970s energy...

Formidable, Magma en pleine maturité, dans une formation enfin équilibrée (heureusement que le jeu devenu pauvre et presque caricatural de Top nous est épargné ici). Vander me semble sans cesse meilleur, son jeu très riche est à la fois subtil et puissant, quel monstre de l'espace kobaïen !

Vander is one criminally underrated drummer. He should on the cover of drumming magazines but hardly anyone has heard of him but avant-prog fans and the french. Its a shame.

I just bought Epok 4 on DVD released 2008. WOW! Just amazing stuff! Is there any significance to the date 1/7/2008? It is mentioned in the liner notes of the DVD

Yes, i 've got some DVDs and we can see the bandages. I thought how a man can support so large concerts ( in Mythes et Legendes vol 2 we see Vander a little tired in final piece of MDK, after 43 minutes non stop. ) He is incredible !

i'm ever impressed with precision of Vander's left arm. So, the right arm can fly over cymbals.

Let's hope that Vander's arms hold out. He has had tendonitis lately... in some of the videos here on YouTube, you can see one his arms is bandaged up.
