No, you can’t put anything besides a Centrino 2, c2d cpu in there.
You could put an X9100 dual core CPU in it and overclock to 3.6GHZ via the throttlestop software. That would make the laptop no slouch at all, even against new laptops.
This laptop was made in 2008 btw.
I love it! Put an SSD in it, overclocked it, it runs cool and fast.
alienware is alot better than stupid asus because they dont know how to make qrap just a remake of alienware that dont know how to make something besides copying alienware

I've had this laptop for almost a year now too and I also love it! It completely destroys my old piece of crap P4 laptop that sounded like a jet. The old one also had ATI graphics which run like complete garbage in Linux (It would lag in quake3!).
This G50vt feels like it was built for Linux. Everything works great! The graphics, the wi-fi, suspend, hibernate, everything. My only complaint is that it came with the crap that is Vista, but Linux solved that problem for me.
@thelostsoul83 You could also try Windows 7. I have tried it myself and have become very fond of it. It is very similar to Vista except they made it easier to do things as well as some amazing features.
About 30+ in Dalaran on a busy server. Highest fps you can get on WoW is 60, but sometimes mine spikes up to 62 or so. Im usually 40-60fps in storm peaks and shit

Depends what you need. If you want gaming (or just about anything else), go with this or build your own desktop for max power at the best price. If you want an overpriced and underpowered netbook, go with the mac.

does anyone how how come the ASUS G50VT is not available for the UK market? I can only find the ASUS G50V model. I have contacted the company but no asnwear from them.
In their homesite I can see that the G50VT is abailable until I change for the English market where the G50V is the only one listed in their G series.

yeah but all comps bought in England are most likely gonna be more money. When i ordered my lappy from dell (which i canceled instantly for my asus). They prolly have a tax on them for shipping out of country. you should try and get a relative or friend who lives in the states to buy you one and send it back to you in England.
i wouldnt say its flawless, their computers have a reputation of overheating, and then their prices are actually ridiculous, the starting price in britain for an m15 starts at £1000 which is incredibly overpriced for a mediocre laptop. you basically pay for the name. although if you have money pouring out of your ears, alienware is obviously the way to go
i saw this at bestbuy and a like it but the one beside it had a nvidia geforce gt 120 is that better or should i stick with getting this also this computer booted windows in about a minute the other took only about 10 seconds which would be the better choice for better gaming
I can definitely tell you that the GT120 on that other machine is going to be lower-end for gaming. It has half the shader processors (32 vrs 64) than the GeForce 9800M GS that is built into this notebook.

I bought this computer about five months ago from Best Buy and I must say It is awesome. I have never had any problems with it and it is an awesome computer for gaming. The computer can breeze through playing Crysis on high settings. I love it :P
it performs very well. the weight, short battery life were expected before I bought it.7200 rpm hd, processor, and the GeForce 9800m gs 512 mb still make it worth it.
No, all the drivers for XP are on the disc that comes with the G50vt-X5 anyway. I have the hotkeys, Power4Gear, Web Cam, Express Gate, WIreless tray utility, card reader, chipset, multiframe. You have to use WinLite to rebuild your XP CD for it to recognize the hard drive.
XP runs better on this than Vista and W7, trust me. Not only do the games run better on high, but I can launch them with 16x Anistropic/16xQ AA/VSync on and they look and seem more smooth, and MUCH better than DX10.
you can find lots of g50vt-x1 in San Francisco area(that's where I'm from). I just visited my brother in Los angeles to buy him a new laptop but I could not find any x1 and salespersons said they no longer carry x1. I checked every single bestbuy in orange county and they only had x5. so I ended up buying x5 and I love it...
I wanted to get G50vt-x1 (one seen in the video) but it became outlet item at bestbuy and wasn't available in Los Angeles. instead I got x5 which is about 50 dollars cheaper and has p7450 processor instead of p8400 processor x-1 has. But x5 is so perfect because it runs every game perfect. (I just finished fallout3 in high mod with X4 AA and 8AF, I'm not talking about ultra mod) If anyone wants gaming laptop, then don't hesitate and get g50vt-x5. I'm totally satisfied with it..

u get an warm fealing indside when u are using it, the graphic card inside makes every gamer melt with this laptoc.
I have removed vista and installed xp, there is an guide online how to do it, and when windows 7 comes out, this laptoc will perform even better.
im playing crysis with good performence, with no problems at all!

yeah i guess, but maybe i should buy a laptop in america... i did a test where i compared an alienware m17x from america with one from england, the one from america was £700 cheaper!! for the same thing... ridiculous right?

yeah but all comps bought in England are most likely gonna be more money. When i ordered my lappy from dell (which i canceled instantly for my asus). They asked if i was shipping the laptop out of the country, weird. They prolly have a tax on them for shipping out of country. you should try and get a relative or friend who lives in the states to buy you one and send it back to you in England.

i wouldnt say its flawless, their computers have a reputation of overheating, and then their prices are actually ridiculous, the starting price in britain for an m15 starts at £1000 which is incredibly overpriced for a mediocre laptop. you basically pay for the name. although if you have money pouring out of your ears, alienware is obviously the way to go

Yup. Probably the best lappy i have ever owned. All the minor cons about this lappy are outweighed by all of the pros. I love it.

i saw this at bestbuy and a like it but the one beside it had a nvidia geforce gt 120 is that better or should i stick with getting this also this computer booted windows in about a minute the other took only about 10 seconds which would be the better choice for better gaming

I can definitely tell you that the GT120 on that other machine is going to be lower-end for gaming. It has half the shader processors (32 vrs 64) than the GeForce 9800M GS that is built into this notebook.

So this computer has the same specs as the G50Vt-X5, except 6 cell battery vs 9 cell, and a faster processor then the X5, correct?
So setting the HDD to 7200 rpm is an option for this computer?

I bought this computer about five months ago from Best Buy and I must say It is awesome. I have never had any problems with it and it is an awesome computer for gaming. The computer can breeze through playing Crysis on high settings. I love it :P

it performs very well. the weight, short battery life were expected before I bought it.7200 rpm hd, processor, and the GeForce 9800m gs 512 mb still make it worth it.

No, all the drivers for XP are on the disc that comes with the G50vt-X5 anyway. I have the hotkeys, Power4Gear, Web Cam, Express Gate, WIreless tray utility, card reader, chipset, multiframe. You have to use WinLite to rebuild your XP CD for it to recognize the hard drive.
XP runs better on this than Vista and W7, trust me. Not only do the games run better on high, but I can launch them with 16x Anistropic/16xQ AA/VSync on and they look and seem more smooth, and MUCH better than DX10.

you can find lots of g50vt-x1 in San Francisco area(that's where I'm from). I just visited my brother in Los angeles to buy him a new laptop but I could not find any x1 and salespersons said they no longer carry x1. I checked every single bestbuy in orange county and they only had x5. so I ended up buying x5 and I love it...

I wanted to get G50vt-x1 (one seen in the video) but it became outlet item at bestbuy and wasn't available in Los Angeles. instead I got x5 which is about 50 dollars cheaper and has p7450 processor instead of p8400 processor x-1 has. But x5 is so perfect because it runs every game perfect. (I just finished fallout3 in high mod with X4 AA and 8AF, I'm not talking about ultra mod) If anyone wants gaming laptop, then don't hesitate and get g50vt-x5. I'm totally satisfied with it..
