My father had a huge record collection. I was born in '59 and I remember hearing him play this 45 often. I think the records didn't begin to wear out until we children (5) all learned how to change records on the record player.
I won't say this is a good song from Fallout NW. This is one of the great songs that has been collected together to (re)apperar in Fallout. Without that game I wouldn't find a lot of awesome musics like this, Cry me a river, or Blue Moon. :)
i don't remember where i learn of this song, but i know it wasn't through Fallout, i don't play any video games, i'm too busy for that....I just love them old songs, Guy has another one called Singin the blues, can't pick which one i like best.
You know what? I don't care that a good number of the people listening to this song learned about it through Fallout (myself included). I just came here to listen to this song, and the fact that so many people can find a reason to argue about the fact that a video game featured this song in its soundtrack really distracts me from it. Seriously, guys, what's the big deal?
@MASDERCHEEFOrigin I wasn't even thought of when the song was released in 1959. As such, I've spent most of my life not even realizing such a great song existed. It shouldn't matter where you learned it; the point is you learned a great song.
@MASDERCHEEFOrigin Hi (John1948Five) Be it a video game ... movie ... yeah it doesn't matter. Just that people are listening is great .. My mum's favourite music and she played it so much it rubbed off ... No matter how you get here just enjoy the music ...Thank You for uploading :)
The Arizona Diamondbacks made it all the way to the Playoffs, it came down to the fifth game between them and the Brewers, and they lost by one point :( This is my new song
I love these songs. My dad had a cassette tape he recorded with old music. It broke about 6 years ago. I bought Fallout 3 and NV because I heard they were cool. Now I just play to hear good music. Me and my dad just let the Xbox run and we listen. I'm glad I was brought up listening to Johnny Cash and other old singers. Makes me different in that I know good music.
@MrCurtishall No I don't have a problem with fallout. I just said listen to decent music and stop begging for xbox live friends. Just go outside and get some friends you actually like, not someone you know nothing about. This will be my last response because this conversation is getting far off topic.
I'm a pre-teen and after playing Fallout 3 and New Vegas I fell in love with this kind of music. (Yeah, im a pre-teen playing a rated "M" game, but i still thinks its awesome!)
@Maria199810 My nephew glanced over my shoulder just as I blasted the head off a Fiend and he begged me to let him play it. He only just turned six last month :P
best song on the New vegas sound track! Who cares if a yau guai is about to kill me, i can die happy listening to this! not only that but its a great song from a time when music really mattered to people
@slayerkiller47 Metal isn't shit. POP is shit. This is amazing. Listen to running with the wolves by korpiklaani and tell me metal is shit. We all can argue on music for hours, but ineviably, there is no shit music. (except pop.) Everyone has a different taste.
@slayerkiller47 And i seriously hope you're not steryotyping metal heads as people with giant colorwed liberty spikes and listen to the shitty metal when they play as fast as a lambo and growl. THAT is truly terrible music. Iron Maiden and Korpiklaani and rush are my favorite bands. I seriosly don't like most other metal songs, even though it's not my favorite songs. Judas Priest is also good. But don't insult other people's music, it just makes you look like an ass, no offense meant.
@Guiltyhorse Of course. However, people will associate it with the game most because that's where they heard it first, more often than not. Misconceptions will always happen, sadly.
If it's been on a pc-game or movie by a cool director, everyone's suddenly both aware and acceptive of something they'd normally dismiss as goofy and old school. I wonder if they know that the earth isn't flat... oh well, lets hope they make a game about it.
@Faxe90Swe Sorry but that's kind of a dumb opinion. If it wasn't for those movies or games, a lot of people wouldn't have access to the movie. I think it's great newer products have respect for the old stuff :P
I think you missed my point. My point is that this music per se all the sudden gets respect by the new generations. Music like this that hasn't been related to bloodbaths by a game or movie, will be frowned upon by the same generations. It simply isn't "cool" the way it is, it has to be related to something that is "cool"; then it's cool.
@Faxe90Swe That argument might be valid if it wasn't for the fact that this song is over 50 years old. It's not like everyone thought this song was stupid until Fallout brainwashed us into liking it. It's more a matter of first time exposure to a great classic. There's a reason it topped charts when it was released and there's a reason a lot of people like it now that they've heard it - it's just good music.
Do you guys bury your music? I mean, how can you not be exposed to this kind of music? You make it sound as if this music is the musical equivalent to the Dead Sea scrolls. Of course, I can only speak for my country, but over here you will be exposed to this music even if you're not a Fallout player. And my experience has taught me that the majority of people of my age hate this music - until it plays in a pc game. Maybe it's just a Swedish thing XD
@Faxe90Swe Not to be mean, but yea. His argument was completely right. Young people in the United States aren't really exposed to this music. Unless of course it is played in a videogame.
No, you're not mean. If two out of two says this music is hidden from America's youth, I guess it's true. But isn't that really weird, that the kids of a country haven't heard the music that made their country famous in a musical sense? I mean, this music is a hallmark of America. Then again, I hear the majority of American kids don't know the name of their first president, so maybe it isn't so weird. It's a shame, really.
@Faxe90Swe All that is pretty true, except the last bit. It is a stereotype that Americans are pretty dumb. In fact, a few are. Yet George Washington is just as famous as Lady Gaga. Although if you were to ask the successes of William Taft, my bet would be the majority wouldn't know.
Yeah, there is a stereotype about American dumbness, but as I remember it they handed out a questionnaire and close to half of the participators had no idea who the first president was. But that's not unique for America, and it's a pretty recent development in the first place, I think. We got educational problems in Europe too. Sweden, for example, has a generation coming into worklife that have just tragic grades in mathematics (including me).
@Faxe90Swe It also depends on where and whom you test. If you take a group of kid's from an expensive prep school, I guarantee you everyone would be able to recite the first 10 presidents and all 50 states, whereas if you went to a public school in the suburbs of Detroit it would be significantly low.
@TheyCallMeWhiteKid -- That's because William Taft was a great man who wasn't afraid...but calling out union misbehavior means that you get the teachers unions against you--so your greatness won't be taught to the next generation. (Of course, the truly educated--i.e., non-public school/self-educated) are well aware that Taft was a great statesman (and justice), but not a politician.
It's sad that, even where I live, just south of the south in the US, most people like rap. Luckily, the old time music survives, and it will never back down.

@TerrorWatcher video games are the new music, since music sucks these days the more intelligent children shift to video games and that links them to stuff like this, and next generation games will suck and there will be something else.
Me and a couple of my friends are probablly the only ones at my school that likes 50s music. i love bob crosby, ink spots, etc etc etc. i <3 you fallout for one of the awsomest soundtracks ever
@Meatwad8888 ive always loved jazz but i never knew how good it cud be until i played F3. then after that i just love most 50s music! :p best shyt lolol
can anybody help me ... many years ago guy mitchell sang a song i cant remember the name of it
but some of the lyrics where high high high is the gallow that waits for me , long is the rope that waits for me because of the girl anna maria OR anna loula or something
they went something like that and was about a girl who commited a crime and tried to get him hung for it
Yeah, fallout brought me here, so what?
If it wasn't for fallout, and someone told me he liked the 50's music, i would laugh at him.
But each time someone tells me he likes songs like this, i give him a high five! I mean, thanks to that game i love these songs. Bless y'all

@2BCBattlefield If only more new bands sang decent songs.... Or at least sang, instead of talking into an autotune.

Well there are "new" bands that are good though...
And dunno, listening rap while in being drunk in the bar is pretty entertaining

@TerrorWatcher video games are the new music, since music sucks these days the more intelligent children shift to video games and that links them to stuff like this, and next generation games will suck and there will be something else.

@TerrorWatcher New Vegas got me into the Genre. I like this kinda music now.
