Nice idea, if you´re looking for a location laptocase case that works for all of the MacBook Pros, external HyperJuice batteries, hard drives, a perfect sunshield and tripod mount have a look at the iWorkCase. Many of world renown photographers use it.
A lot of gear to carry - why so many cards if you are downloading to HD. Myself I find the Digimate II-plus better holds a 80gig hard drive and it reads all your cards and fits into your pocket. If a customer needs to see photos, just plug into any computer.
mg149ex-So what are you doing to contribute? If you have nothing constructive to say then how about you don't say it. If you watch the video I think it is self explanatory what Chase is trying to do. Share the knowledge don't dis it!!!! Great stuff Chase keep it up!
Er...ah...sorry friend, but the title of the video is Laptop CASE, not laptop and hard drives. It's fair to think that photographers have computers and storage devices. This laptop CASE setup does cost a couple hundred bucks. Not a couple thousand.
Thanks for the great video. This inspired me to shell out the cash and buy the case. I also made a video showing how i made my tweaks to the laptop tray. Again thanks for the videos and can't wait to watch more.
a great example of a great web 2.0 social networking web site is GAGLA dot com....i just discovered it and i think i'll be using it for all my social networking needs from now...
nice! if it works, please go to my blog and post results under the laptop video via 'popular posts'. would love to see/share with the community! thanks!
Dude, it all looks very cool but you forgot one simple thing: it won't be cool for long. You have that apple nesteled down in that case so perfectly that it can't breath and cool itself. All the fan vents both intake and exhaust are blocked. The notebook will overheat sitting in there and either crash or dramaticaly shorten it's life. Not cool for a $3000 computer!!!!
Nikongigio: Thanks for the words of caution. Note that we're very attuned to the heat and have been running this rig for about a year without worry. It's only really snugged up when on the move. Lots of detailed comments about this and other thoughts at chasejarvis dot com slash blog.
just checked out photos of the hp and it looks like the ports you need access to are on the let side. I think you could reverse it (laptop tray option oriented on the right side of the pelican case and notch out the rubber on the left). Otherwise, dimesionally, it works. Visit my blog. Note that there are comments about making use of the case using different trays/liners from what I spec'ed out here.
Hey Ninja: keep in mind that I'm mostly not shooting tethered either. This is primarily for dumping cards in the field (if'n you shoot thru a lot of cards and have a need to back up in the field) and for viewing images at larger/higher res than you can on the back of the camera (to check focus, color, detail, etc).
Good luck taking my photo!

You guys should really look into Solid State Drives for your Macbook Pro and external drives if you're traveling a lot.

Yupp, less chances of breaking the fragile HDD.

They're expensive, even drives that are only 40gbs are ridiculously pricey. That being said, they're also extremely fast.

Is that your set-up for airline travel? If so is it part of your carry-on? TSA must love that one!
AUsluicerman 4 years ago
It sometimes gets checked in baggage and sometimes gets carried on -- both without problem (at least 30-50 trips).
achaser123 4 years ago
how heavy is this whole set up?
logondummy123 4 years ago
Fully loaded with computer, drives, all cables, backup batteries, case, power supply, strap, etc = 16.5 lbs. Just weighed it.
