  • There is actually an album called STAIRWAYS TO HEAVEN! I have a copy! You can order it from Amazon!

  • Lol. Glad you did upload this.

  • @blackbecks

Call it Monty Python for North Americans then. I only meant to say the program aired in the U.S. market. Yes, many of the cast were Canadians.

  • i dont know what version i'd love to actually hear

    Devo or 5 Neat Guys

  • These guys kick SNL in the azz.

  • Baby, baby, baby, it makes me wonder...

  • 1:46 "If you went to a record store to look for this record, they'd laugh at you, not because of your looks, but because they're not allowed to sell it." I laughed so hard...

  • Oh, they had to parody Al Stewart first, didn't they? LOL!

  • I'd totally buy this just for the Slim Witman version alone

  • THANK YOU!!! I remember too many bits cut from DVDs because of the music.

  • Kind of a shame they just used headshots rather than live impersonations; we never got to see Cathering O'Hara as Rickie Lee Jones.

  • Great! Would have loved to hear how the Devo version would have sounded...

  • Rich Little! Holy crap that's genius

  • Buffy St Marie! That is soooooooooo inspired!!

  • \m/ \m/

  • It's not money grubbing because Jimmy could make alot more money by allowing it to be shown, it's because he wants to control the product and rightly so, but I'll bet you he would allow it if he knew more about SCTV and saw how funny they are.

  • 30 years on, and I still remember the punch line "Rich Little singing it the only way he can"

    Thanks for uploading

  • Damn Led Zeppelin wouldn't let SCTV put this skit on their DVD release. Money-grubbing bastards

  • Thank you SO much for uploading this! I was so bummed when I couldn't find it on DVD.

  • Genius!

  • Rich Little! LMAO!

  • Slim Whitman?! Oh dear lord!

  • @Lotmeister - One of their favorite targets, it would seem....

  • More laughs in a half-hour of SCTV than in a year of SNL. Monty Python for Americans.

  • @moleskinner aren't they canadians?

  • when SCTV did this it was a joke. But in the 90's they really did make this cd.

THE MONEY OR THE GUN: Stairways to Heaven with about 22 different versions of Stairway to Heaven.

  • My cheeks haven't felt like this since my last acid trip in 89.

  • yOU'VE MADE MY DAY! THANK U! LOL LOL

  • I tried to explain this bit to my son, who has just downloaded the original on his Ipod...

...but aside from not having heard of any of the performers being burlesqued here, the concept of a "NOT AVAILABLE IN STORES" LP, sold only on UHF stations, is completely incomprehensible to him.

    I feel so old.

  • Imagine if they were to do this album now. Think of who all would be on it.

Metalica, Axl Rose, Lady Gaga, Justin Beiber, William Hung, Travis Trit, Cher, Paula Abdul, Pink, Li'l Kim, Brittney Spears, New Kids on the Block, and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

  • Ricky Lee Jones!!! haha! "and she's buyyyyyyying a Stairway to Heaven... girl uses up all her cash." hahaha!

  • You can't find this in a store or Itunes, Darn!

  • i'm dying to hear the hall and oates version of "stairway"

  • LOVE IT!!

  • RITCH F*NG LITTLE!! FTW

  • @bitingontinfoil i'm with you..easily the best part. sounding so much like the original IT'S SCARY! awesome.

  • Barry White!!! LMFAO - thanks so much for uploading this!

  • I want to hear the version by Boxcar Willie lol

  • Ah, beautiful! Given all the Led Zeppelin 'tributes', this wasn't to far from reality.

  • The ironic thing is that Dolly Parton did record a version of "Stariway". Hilarious.

  • Dave Thomas doing the voice over is funny. This is absolutely hilarious. Would ever think of doing something like this to a Led Zeppelin song.

  • Problem with this skit is it's almost not a skit. So many people have covered the song badly, and some of these singers, who were considered great when they were popular were SO mediocre, that it's completely plausible.

  • @dyinglikeflies Mediocre? How dare you talk about 5 Neat Guys that way!!!!!

  • Is this album still available on 8-track? Just the ticket when you're trapped in traffic with a good friend.

  • Thumbs up if you wish this record was real.

  • "Stairway To Heaven" by Slim Whitman? LOL!!

  • I grew up on SCTV....thanks Canada from the US

  • I like Rich Little's version the most :)

  • I miss SCTV

  • The first time I saw this in the 1980s,I literally laughed for days over the "Rich Little" version.

  • The first time I saw this in the 1980s,I literally laughed for days over the "Rich Little" version.

  • Hold onto your headsets! There's MORE!

  • If this record really existed, I would buy it.

  • @flapdoodle64: It DOES exist, there's an album made by Atlantic Records Australia of Aussie singers singing their versions of this song as an audition for an Aussie TV variety show.

  • I would kill to hear stairway by boxcar wille, the village people&Rod Mckuen LOL

  • Fuck Jimmy and his stealing ways. Let SCTV put this in the box set!

  • actually, led zepplin ripped off an american blues singer who swung back and won. plagiarism ...led zep.

  • @vinnynumbnuts lol... yes you are right, but the song your referring to is Whole Lotta Love, which borrowed heavily from Willie Dixon's You Need Love. Stairway to Heaven is not by any means original either. The intro is a direct rip off of the song Taurus by Spirit. I love Led Zeppelin and they are the band that shaped my musical direction in life, but I don't deny the fact that Jimmy Page stole from a lot of people. Oh well..

  • Do not send any money to P.O. Box 104 Melonville. You wont get squat.

  • I still quote sctv on a daily basis. Made SNL look sophomoric!!!!

  • @wimpsimbo Talk to any serious comedy writer and they'll agree that it's the best comedy show ever. Dave, Eugene, Andrea, Joe, Catherine, Rick, Marty and especially John are comedy gods!

  • Tex and Edna boil should have their version on there too!

  • i want it!

  • LOL! Rich Little! hahaha

  • Before Billy Mays, we had Harvey K-tel to yell at us!

  • Yea, I sure missed SCTV when they went of the network. I never missed it. It was SO unique.

  • Oh God that was comedy GOLD! I started cracking up at the Pavarotti part, then the Barry White part kept the laughter going until I totally lost it at Slim Whitman, Rickie Lee Jones, 5 Neat Guys and Rich Little! Stairway To Heaven was a song that was the rock of my teen years so much so that I have a hard time playing it now it's so played out. Man that was awesomely funny! Great post thanks.

  • @verbusen Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your post!

  • @pasquale30

Thank you so much for uploading this!

Due to copyright nonsense, this bit was cut from the DVD releases. The same for their famous "Gordan Lightfoot Sings Every Song Ever Written" routine.

  • Page has no sense of humour, obviously.

  • That Rich Little - uncanny!

  • You got that right! I was crushed when it was cancelled. Thank God it lives on on YouTube and DVD's. RIP John Candy....

  • SCTV was pure genius! Too bad I was born in '77 and didn't experience it the first time around!

  • oooh how i miss sctv! i wish i could buy this album!

  • @littlekev72 Yeah I would love Slim Whitman actually doing this song! Someone write him he's still around! Wait, maybe he already did it? LOL!

  • Man, I remember another show called "You Wrote It, You Watch It" where they devoted an entire episode to peoples' memories of that song...XD

  • Page didn't allow this?? What a bitch.

  • Jimmy Page practices magik with a c*ck in his mouth.

  • Jimmy Page, that money grubbing little shit. LOL. I thought the Ricky Lee Jones was funny as hell and spot on.

    Thanks for the post.

  • @MrBasilGanglia To be fair, Zeppelin is pretty consistent about not letting people use their stuff. Richard Linklater had to beg to get him to allow "Immigrant SOng" in School Of Rock.

  • @wookie72 Which is deeply ironic since most of their early atuff was plagiarized from Black blues artists. Jimmy Page was a thief. Only recently have their albums given credit to their real artists that composed most of their earlier works.

  • @rdecredico And this very song is a direct ripoff of "Taurus" by Spirit.

  • @wookie72 He does loan them out for car commercials.

  • Holy cow...Rich Little was spot on!!! lol

  • If you can, track down Australia's "The Money Or The Gun" CD compilation of "Stairway" covers, it's amazing; they even have Rolf Harris!

  • best best

  • I remember this like it was yesterday. I cannot thank you enough for this.

  • @propaganda63 You're welcome!

  • Buffy St. Marie - pure genius! God, I loved this show! I went through a hard time when NBC cancelled it. Fuckers!

  • @mikey42 I am greatful that I could get Canadian TV (CBC) here, so I could always get SCTV. Honestly, I don't even think I even watched it on NBC. Of course, I am getting old. SCTV is a lost classic, these days.

  • @kyokogodai Hey, from one oldie to another, I lived near in MI, near Detroit when SCTV was on, so I was lucky enough to get it on Canadia tv, too. All of my friends from MI know who SCTV is, but when I moved to Florida, and then out here (Oregon), many people had no clue how great this show was/is. It's always nice to whip out a YouTube vid and convert a stranger...teehee!

BTW, if "pasquale30" is reading, or if any of you know, who is "Jimmy" and why didn't he allow this to be released?

  • @karmadhyana Yes, so many to convert to SCTV!!!! Those were the days!! Keep the faith!

  • @karmadhyana - Jimmy might be Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, who wrote Stairway to Heaven with Robert Plant. I'm just guessing.

  • @violetjm You are correct. That is whom i was referring to. There was even an online petition to try and convince him to allow this sketch on the SCTV boxed sets, but he refused.

  • @karmadhyana Hi there. I was referring to Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin. He is infamous for not allowing any of Zep's music to be used unless he's making money! lol Too bad. There is another great Stairway moment during the Happy Wonders sketch where Rick Moranis does a Leutonian version..lol

  • @futs30 Wow, I had no idea that something like this would bother JP so much...money changes everything, eh? Oh, btw, YES!! I've seen Rick Moranis as "Linsk Minyak (sp)" doing the Leutonian version of Stairway to Heaven on the Shmenge Brothers special. SO DANG FUNNY!!! I miss SCTV, The Shmenge Bros, and John Candy. ::(

  • Two decades after this ad spoof, Dolly Parton actually did a cover version of this song. Talk about being prophetic . . .

  • k-tel rules

  • gawd...LMAO!..but i actually kind of LIKE the slim whitman and rickie lee jones versions, pity SCTV didn't record FULL versions of those impersonations...anyway, thanks for posting this!

  • @willgeek I'd pay to hear the entire Luciano Pavarotti version!

  • They should have included Andrea Martins Edith prickly character. PPPwaaah ha!!!

  • Was fleetwood mac coked up during their version ? lol

  • I'd LOVE to hear the Boxcar Willie version! Oh WAIT!, Did I say love? I meant loathe. Yup that was it. LOATHE!

  • Don't forget Slim Whitman!

  • 5 Neat Guys rule!

  • You can just tell that's Joe Flaherty doing Luciano! ;)

  • @binkle1: No, it's John Candy, who also played him in several skits.

  • Yay, it's back! But they ALWAYS rip SCTV downloads right back off again ... :(

  • Simply brilliant!!! Funniest comedy troupe EVER!!!!

  • genius. thank you for the upload. oh the memories!

  • Thanks! I missed this one on my DVD sets!

  • Thanks for this. Shows how awesome SCTV was.
