As I listen to this song with only a few hours of 2011 remaining, I reflect on everything that has happened in the past 365 days. Good times, bad times. Times that made me laugh, times that made me cry. So many memories that I will never forget.
Thank you Paul Anka for allowing me to reminisce with this classic song!
this song was used in a kodak commercial which i think that song really made kodak very popular in capturing those memorable photos just imagine when you grow old and tired the only memory you will have in the past are those photos you taken when your still young.
Back in 1997, I flew to California from Louisiana in time to be at my father's side when he passed away. Being the only son, my mother and four sisters were pretty upset--I had to play the tough guy. A few hours after my mom had regained her composure, I took her to dinner. The instant we sat down, this song started playing. I immediately lost it as she did too. This song will always remind me of the great father I had. Thanks, Paul, for a song truly from the heart. And thank you, dad.
Every once and a while I listen to this song to put reality in check. I remember this song while growing up in the 1970s. Thank you Paul Anka you are timeless.
FOR MY BROTHER WILLARD .....ITS BEEN 19 1/2 YEARS SINCE YOU LEFT US... I STILL MISS U ...VICTIM OF AIDS.... TRANSFUSION.....I REMEMBER THOSE TIMES OF OUR LIVES ,, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN
I love this song:( I'm only 15, but I've been through alot in the past few years - I don't talk to my mother's family anymore, my grandpa has died. I was very close with him and was with him when he died. We used this song for my sister's graduation video..it just reminds me of everything. All the times we used to have..when everything seemed simple. I miss it so much, but I'm grateful for the time I had with them. And I can't wait for whats ahead. I think I need to let go of the past.
I was playing "Across The universe" by the Beatles on my acoustic guitar. There is a part that goes from an E minor to a G minor chord It really sounds great because the G minor chord is somewhat of an unexpected tone at that point in the song and It reminded me of this song. I'm not sure if this song is in the same key as Across the universe but they must have a similiar chord progression and perhaps this song was influenced by Across the universe
Lord, miss na miss ko po ang tatay ko...How i wish You could send him back to us even for a day or hours or minutes....all I wish is to hug .. kiss.. and be with him...Maraming salamat sa masayang buhay na bihigay mo sa amin ng mga kapatid ko lalong lalo na kay nanay....Basta 'tay tandaan mo lang...mahal na mahal kita...hanggang sa muling pagkikita...i mss you so much...!!!
this is such a beatiful and meaningful song. It reminds me of all of the wonderful chilhood times with my parents. I chose this as my Daddy/ Daughter dance at my wedding in 1978. It brings tears to my eyes for all the beautiful memories and that special dance with my beloved father. Sadly he passed away in 1999, yet each time I hear this beautiful song through my tears I still feel that joy I felt that day. God Bless You in Heaven Daddy, I Love You!
this song really makes me cry..it truly brings back the memories of the past especially my childhood...it wanna make me value my life especially my family even more..life is truly short...we should not waste time to non sense coz every moment is borrowed...
everytime i heard this song nag pla-flashback ako dun sa naging life ko before sa isang place..hindi ko ma explain kung anong feelings yun..parang nag join yung sadness and happiness..ang gulo:D
This is a real song....the lyrics are appropriate for the title, the voice is clean a clear, the timing is spot on, the background music is tremendous. Contemporary music lovers take a queue from this old song....it shows how it is supposed to be done.
Thanks for these words in your video, because just hearing the song itself at this part here1:40 I thought he was saying "Here comes the saddest part" ..... instead of "the setting sun". lol thx again...
I was a young boy of 15 years old. We were going to the ROTC Military Ball. Youn wore the most gorgeous red dress! You were the most beautiful thing I had seen! You spoke my name, I turned to face you, and you gave me the most passionate kiss I'd ever had. God, what I wouldn't give to return to that evening again! Even though I'm happily married, my mind still journeys to the "long-ago and far away"! Thankk You, Angela, for some of the best times of my life!
@JudyKhan500lbSlut.......................I DO NOT KNOW WHO IN THE HECK YOU ARE, but that was the most disgusting and horrific response to anything I have EVER heard. You have no idea who she was or the amazing young woman she was before she was taken so early from us all in a horrendous auto accident at the age of 19. You are a SICK AND DEMENTED individual!!!!!!!!!
I heard this song in a prelude to the starting of the 1976 NFL season on CBS and they showed highlights of the Dallas & Pittsburgh SUPER BOWL X. All the could ofs, should ofs and may beeees.
@HHH100 I hope your "enemy" list includes white terrorists like Timothy McVeigh. I don't care how many dumbass black and Asian women fall for you guys, white males like you are among the most dangerous threats today. Just like yesteryear. Despite all those millions of Jews you murdered, the thousands of innocent Japanese women and children vaporized in an atomic holocaust, the millions of Native Americans you enslaved and slaughtered, you white males still get a pass. Unbelievable.
@hork111 First of all, it seems you made my point. Then for a little history, Hitler was not Christian and neither was Stalin. They were god less atheists. A little different from islamists who believe in satan or the evil opposite of goodness. If it were not for white people in general, the world would never have had the advancements in medicine, technology, and standards of living. Since you seem to be a racist against whites, you should know that the first slave owners were muslims.
@TheGeminiStudios Oh you are sooooo wrong my friend, that race card does not work with me. I would take any person whatsoever, who protects, upholds, and believes in liberty, freedom, and the U.S. Constitution as well as the Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence. Including who understands that the government in the U.S. is of the People, by the People and for the People. Something this current mutant has no knowledge of, or in my opinion does not care.
Nichols originally wrote this song with different lyrics, for a competition on the 100th anniversary of the City of Santa Monica, California. He called it "Our Town By the Sea". Kodak took an interest in the melody, however, and paid him to turn it into "Times of your Life" instead.
I'm a little confused about the date-I seem to remember this song from the 60's.Oh,well.I guess with the memories goes...the memory!!! Anyway, great song and thanks for the post.
love this song.. so fitting for the new year upcoming for everybody to reflect and be thank ful>>> I am so happy and blessed and look forward to 2011.. had 5 great things happen in the year 2010.. thankig the lord for all his blessings.. Amen!!!
Co-written by Roger Nichols who also co-wrote "We've Only Just Begun" and "Rainy Days and Mondays" by The Carpenters. Both Carpenters songs were co-written with Paul Williams.
I remember the Kodak commercial. Was hoping to find it here on YouTube. It was of a family moving out of their home and the mom was reminiscing. Warmed my heart even as a child.

This song brings me back a lot of great memories that I will forever cherish and it brings a smile to my face getting to hear this song and to relive these special memories
This song when I hear it brings me to tears as I look back and remember all those years of my childhood and those who touched my life who are no longer around. I have been sooooo BLESSED to have such fond memories.
this reminds me of the terrible rape-o-rama murders that afflicted North Side in NJ many yrs ago. this crazy handyman was terrorizng the mothers of our town until he was finally captured. police found him nkaed, drooling over a dead woman, singing along with anka.
This song makes me come close to crying, laughing, thinking and reflecting. I've loved this song for years and havent heard it in at least 20 or so. Thanks for posting this classic. The orchestration and arrangment are superb!!
seems just yesterday.,,,you were only babies i fondly kiss & hug....how can i ever forget the feeling i got when i saw your first smile..first laugh..first walk...now you are both grown ups..you will always be my babies sons,,,i love you always...HAPPY BIRTHDAY HANS....HAPPY BIRTHDAY VON...WISHING YOU ALL THE BEST...GOD BLESS
Everyone is so busy with "now," but now doesn't last long, it quickly becomes......when. If you do remember, then that time back "when," truly meant something to you.
He's so right Memories are just times that we borrow to get us through till tomorrow.
Make Memories if you ever do anything in this world for a Loved one especially your Children Make Memories as those Memories will help a Child when you are gone and
I know I would like to know that My Kids are Smiling and Remembering Good Times when I am gone...Have Traditions like at Christmas Birthdays Holidays Vacations the things that will put a Smile on their faces "The Times Of Your Life" May God Bless.
I grew up in downtown L.A. in the late '60's & early 70's. Andy Williams called the downtown area, "The best of times". L.A. is pretty sad now, pretty pathetic, but Il" alwaysremember"we all" got along and it was pretty much a great big family. You old and not so old timers are dead on, The greatest music has already been made. Sincerely, Sgt. Ronald J. Campbell. U.S. Army Ret. P.S. Thanks Paul.
To vivaselena: Actually, the two songs you mention below existed before they were used for commercials. Sometimes songs do not seem to get as much exposure as when they are used for television commercials.
2 of the best songs of all time were actually taken from commercials, this one for Kodak, and We've only just begun by The Carpenters, for the Crocker bank!
This was also our class song, 1979. Apparently it was used for class songs, a LOT during the late 70's! (do they even HAVE class songs now? Who could agree on anything? lol) And yet, this song still has a 'fresh' sound to it. Thanks for sharing this neat presentation of it.
I love this song, i always remember my family especial my parents and grand parents. It always comes back in my mind all those good old days there in Bukidnon but now im here in Manila far away from them just to pursue my dreams for my family. I feel lonely when i hear this song it seems that makes me cry but happy to remember them always.
thank you so much to annecinaj and i nearly forgot the lyrics of this good song and of course if i can twisted back time to my teen ages and bring back my sweet memories times i could do it and this song made my feeling mixed up between joy and sorrow. thank you once more!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This was my senior class song at our graduation. How is it possible that that was 28 years ago? That can't be true....I'm supposed to still be a teen-ager.
i remember my special woman in my life. Until now i still keep thinking on her. The laughters that we had shared, joy, sadness, misery, heartaches, troubles and etc. If i could reverse my life, i will embrace her and tell her that how i really love her. love you
i remember my special woman in my life. Until now i keep thinking on her.. Our memories never to be forgotten, sorrows, parin, heartaches, laughters, joy etc. if i could reverse my life, i will embrace her and tell here that how i really love her...
Beautiful.Great.The words ring so true.I love this song.Definitely a career song for Paul Anka.I wish I could go back to when life was simpler and more pleasant.
KEEP THIS SONG MY HUNK....I WILL ALWAYS TREASURE WHAT WE HAD...i'd like to make a movie out of this song but i just dont know how to anymore hehe....THIS VIDEO IS ALREADY PERFECT!!!
I love this song.. it was our HIgh School class song and it always takes me back to a time where life was much simpler and we were all so full of hopes and dreams.
If you lose hope, somehow you lose the vitality that keeps life moving, you lose that courage to be, that quality that helps you go on in spite of it all. And so today I still have a dream.
Really love this song, I was surprised to hear this song on Music Choice's "Soft Rock" station last Spring cause you never hear this song anywhere on the AM/FM soft rock stations
i love this song coz my older brother played this song every sunday after we have our family lunch, now all of my siblings are happily married and its just me and mom that's left in our old home, i played it every day almost before going to work to remind me the best times i had with my older siblings

this reminds me of the terrible rape-o-rama murders that afflicted North Side in NJ many yrs ago. this crazy handyman was terrorizng the mothers of our town until he was finally captured. police found him nkaed, drooling over a dead woman, singing along with anka.

I'm presently playing my Rickenbacker bass guitar and going back in time! Aloha

This is a beautiful song.
Every time I hear it, I think of all the times gone by and the years yet to come.
It all makes me think.
Time does slip away.
Thank you for posting this.

I love this song, i always remember my family especial my parents and grand parents. It always comes back in my mind all those good old days there in Bukidnon but now im here in Manila far away from them just to pursue my dreams for my family. I feel lonely when i hear this song it seems that makes me cry but happy to remember them always.

at 1:26, instead of "the mem'ries are time that you borrow", it sounds more like "for mem'ries...", with "for" instead of "the"

If you lose hope, somehow you lose the vitality that keeps life moving, you lose that courage to be, that quality that helps you go on in spite of it all. And so today I still have a dream.
