  • so sad song but that well telled. goog job.

  • honer him.

  • boner him lol

  • I just love the sound of his Strat. How does he get that sound? So simple, but magic!!!

  • its his 5 way pick selector switch. When you engage it in a certain position if give you a beautifully, clean chirp like that. I love it too.

  • Thank you, I'll check that out.

  • Timeless music, the blues!

  • Brings back long ago memories

  • Great musician!! Me and my Boyfriend always argue about if this song is based on fact or fiction : ) What a great heart wrenching song!

  • Well i'm right next door if you need me hehehehe..

  • xaxaxaxaxaxaahahahahah nice one.,..

  • Tune

  • What kind of music is this? is it rythm and blues?

  • blues

  • just say a concert from him fucking epic

  • I havent heard Robert Cray in about 14 years when I last saw him in Glasgow Barrowlands, he is one artist that is uterly timeless, I cannot beleive that he is not more well known. Come back to Glasgow!!!

  • Such a great voice....really clean and smooth.

  • Just like the guitar.

  • AWESOME SOLO!!!!

  • Wow, whole new artist I never learned about until now, Robert Cray is awesome!

  • Saw the show in Charlottesville, VA last night--awesome! Smooth, tight, a nice selection of old and new tunes.

  • naganocumos ,intresting fcukn name...any way ,i wod put tht dwn to your purswation..!!! no punn intended.....i wod not hav left tht fcukn knowin those little freaks-stil unaware of who this genius is....but i supose thas your credibility not mine...!!!

  • didnt understand a word of that

  • At a recent BBQ I had a quick conversation with someone who challenged me to name any famous 'black' guitarists.

I suggested Jimi Hendrix as an example.

He said "Other than Jimi Hendrix".

    I said "Bo Diddley".

    He said "Who?"

    I then said "Robert Cray".

He announced to the rest of those listening that I was making up names.

The frustrating thing was that those listening didn't know any better. So they went with him and his ignorance, because he sounded more convincing.

    Life's like that.

  • You should have taken a dump on his car.

  • ahahaha (Y) nice one

  • lolz

  • Their loss. . . .be satisfied by their ignorance! . . . . Epic blues fail!!!

  • LOL! hadn't heard of Bo Diddley?!? i suppose they never heard of Chuck Berry either? *sigh*

  • I love Chuck Berry, too.

Investigate Bo Diddley. You'll be glad you did.

  • Had to miss the show here in Hampton Roads, much to my dismay. What always hits me about much of Robert Cray's music is that in years past, this wouldn't be classified as blues, but R&B or soul. Those genres have been taken over so much by hip-hop that blues-based R&B and soul music have little place. This sounds more like, say, Solomon Burke or Otis Redding than Buddy Guy or John Lee Hooker.

  • Man how is he skipping atlanta????? I may have to drive to tampa to see him

  • chick de maaaais

  • miss you billy,

  • is that the drummer from huggy lewis and the news?

  • I wish I were as strong of a persuader as Robert Cray. With hard work and perseverance I think I can get there.

  • Woohoo!!!! exellent!!! classic!!!

  • I love Robert Cray! Young Bob! Awesome!

  • Besides being a great musician this guy is one of the best lyricist / storytellers around.

  • pure awsome

  • this man and his music are something special

  • hes so cool

  • He's a class act, some great guitar solos - check him out performing with GOD (Eric Clapton) - some amazing stuff

  • Excellent! Thanks for posting this. Never heard another one better on youtube.

  • real good song

  • apsolutely fucking good..real life with the next door

  • Saw him perform as an opening act for Huey Lewis And The News in the mid 80's. I was hooked!!!!

  • EPIC.

  • Is he, Robert Cray, the India's ex-vocalist? From the 1984 song 'Stay with me'?

  • wich is the other cuase this is original

  • We were created to LOVE. Just do not get caught cheating.

  • Who says you don't hear music like this on the radio. All I hear on the radio here in Mississippi is Blues, Soul and R&B

  • awesome

  • does anyone else remember when they used to play this on BET to death?!

  • I do. it seemed like they played it around 2 or 3 in the afternoon like clockwork.

  • Amazing song!

    lol @ 2:55 - 3:00 =P

  • (was talking about the bassist)

    damn I love this song

  • How fortunate I was to hear his music when I graduated High School.

After hearing this song, I went out and got his album right away.

Each song is a story, to say the least, and one of the best guitar players and songwriters.

So disappointed he didn't have more hits, but what he has created, is quality.

Something which I doubt many "musicians" know what that word means.

He's a story teller, not just a musician!

  • Story teller, singer and guitar player. What a man

  • 1 of the best songs ever

  • Comment removed

  • Fantastic, young Bob!

  • I wore this song out when it first came out. I'm surprised he didn't stay in the mainstream of things afterwards.

  • great!

  • This song is amazing! It's THE song that made me want to play guitar and expand the list of musical instruments i can play

  • Aside from his musical influence, his lyrics meet reality and hit me as right on in the experince in life. I mean, if I could sing, I'd be singin' the same blues.

  • When I was n HS, this was my first exposure to Mr. Cray. It has had and impact on my playing and love of music since.

  • Young Bob is playing in Houston in about 4 weeks. I can't wait to see him again. This tune is a modern classic!

  • THE DAYS OF SANDIEAGO.THANKS ROBERT.

  • Is'nt that Max weinberg on the drums?

  • 2:48 YOUNG BOB!

  • I played this "yes" tape when i was about 18, about 20yrs ago, doesn't the time go fast, but this song is timeless yes?

  • I loved this song in the 80's... lol another notch on my guitar!!

  • what a great song!

  • really tells it like it is. how he spells it out - lyrics and incredible sound!

  • I always wonder if Robert Cray just picked up a Stratocastor one day and started playing it.... No lessons,no struggling to find this cord or that, the sound just flowed .Add in dynamic vocals and lyrics....And you have Robert... an American icon if there ever was one.

  • Robert plays a classic combination of a hardtail Strat and a twin reverb amazingly well. I saw him in a small smoky club when I was in college and he was amazing.

  • I have long admired the voice and talent of Robert Cray. I still listen to my first cassette of the "Strong Persuader" album. Thanks for posting such a high quality performer

  • There are so much of these persuaders...

  • That's the saddest song I ever heard

  • And one of the best

  • I had this tape when it came out when i was about 16. Played it to death. And this was my favorite song.

Awesome to be able to listen to it again after all these years.

  • this mans got soul

  • This guy is the ultimate substance and style! Alas, there is no place on the radio for real talent. Black radio plays 50 cent, and white radio is old rock and roll, neither is bad, but mostly not that good. Real talent falls between the cracks!!!! Just a sign of the times.

  • Amazing

  • GREAT PLAY !

  • this is such a sick tune. Cray is a master, and so little known. what a shame...

  • Love this solo..and the licks from 2:23-2:40..could I just play this song and then die...to damn tight.

  • hardowt lol definately

  • i thought 'strong persuader' was the name of the album?

  • right ya bunch of fannies just listen to a great piece of music an stop arguin!

  • my ex wife had an affair with my so called mate & this song I couldn't listen to without getting teary or angry. I'm pleased to say I'm well over it now & its a great song

  • Baby Baby Baby...your music is the heartbeat of soul. I just love to love you, you so good!!!

  • Why does everyone name this song wrong? Its still strong persuader, not Right next door nor Its because of me.

  • No, dolt. The name of the album is Strong Persuader. The name of the song is "Right Next Door (Because of Me)." Always has been. Next time, before you complain about how ignorant everyone is, maybe you should make sure you have your facts right.

  • it was actually released as Right Next Door ( because of me)

  • bro if u dont lyk dis song ur dum

  • Robert Cray is SO unbelievably talented! Triple threat: vocal, guitar, songwriter. Can't wait to see him this week. Counting the seconds....

  • If you see Robert in Boston tell him I love him so much

  • It's because of me, it's because , who is he, don't mumble no mo - silent shame, I was right next door, it's because of me.

  • Fantastic song.

  • Robert Cray

  • The Strong Persuader CD!He is awesome!!!

  • this song is about me...it;s all because of me :P

  • very good song!

(I don't like the subject of the song, but that's another story)

  • legend

  • Robert Cray is the MAN!

  • Yeah... He's beyond genius :)

  • Smooth.

  • "I was warned". My favourite Cray's song. But i can't find it. Can someone please post it ???

  • Love this song. What a lovely voice. Used to have this on a very old tape, really pleased to find it here.

  • Love Robert Cray hes sooo sweet.

  • shall we share his birthday

  • He's got a very strange taste for the choice of his brand schoes !

    ;aD

Stop to laugh...I realy like this guy since I was Young in about eight years old when I discovered him.

He's got, I think, the more sensual and subtle feeling on guitar as the way he sings, isn't it.

    He's a great man.

  • Today is 8/1/07 -- Happy Birthday Robert Cray!!!

  • i love this song

  • super song

  • Super cool...Such a great guitar player with a voice to compliment it perfectly. Thanks 4 the u/l...

  • Damn...love this song!! I used to have this tape and loved it!! Robert Cray is awesome and I'm still surprised he isn't more well known.

  • Brilliant Song!!! Great Guitarist!!!

  • he is the man

  • Robert Cray is sooo smooth!
