@ElCalbo1954 Thanks man. The video is recorded over five years ago (5/2006) with a analog video camera & then transferred to PC via screen capture software so it ain't exactly quality video :) Anyway I'm glad you like it.
@tinman3012 Thanks man. The frets were small & think when I got it, and has worn pretty much after over 15 years. so it sometimes does sound a bit like a fretless. Also back when i had a fretless couple of years the Fretless style technique kinda stuck. You can easily spot that effect on Jaco's numerous recordings, which over some people still argues whether he plays fretless/fretted bass on.
For everyone saying this video is fake please just listen to the bass and watch his fingering, it's clearly not. The vid is ever so slightly out of sync but it is definately him playing although you can hear Jaco's line underneath. I don't know this guy I just like watching good bass players.
Excellent job mate, I've just learnt this tune and it's harder than it sounds (as most Pastorius stuff is!) Great job on the F major break too, not an easy part. Keep it up!
Great job. I remember when I started playing the bass 17 year ago, my teacher gave me a chart for teen town. I couldn't play it then, and I still can't. Jaco is a reminder of what kind of player I'm not in terms of style of music.
Very nice. Just goes to show that for all of us who spend thousands on basses, the sound really is 'in your hands'. Reminds me of the other really good player on here who plays what looks like a beaten up Charvel PJ with a maple neck.
are you trying to show you can play it like the original, or that you can do your own thing with it. cause you play some of the lines right on, then you leave others out. not bad though
erm both, I guess. I made these clips to see how it will look at Youtube, trying to inspire others, as I have seen an increase in bass-videos (in my opinion )
I've been playing these tunes years and years, so I tend to not always mimic the original, but play as there where 2 bass players originally. The clips always contains some mistakes too. Thanks for commenting mate, it's

It sounds great. It also sounds fretless, but I can see that it is a fretted bass.

I just started learning this song
I'm trying to get the groove down
except I keep getting those natural harmonics at the 7th fret from the ghost notes
great video
I'm gonna have to use this as reference

fretless precision?
Xixo 5 years ago
ca. 1990-1991 Fenix JB-?? Precision + Jazz mics.
Fretted, though quite low frets and (soft rosewood?)
fingerboard resulting sometimes quite frettles-like tones. Made in China(?) By Young Chang.
The tuners and electronics are crap but I like the light, resonant woods that's been used.
My 1st bass. Never going to sell it, just upgrading the tuners, electronics, mics, and a bone nut.
